Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Oil light problem
« on: 13 October 2013, 06:09:26 pm »
Even if you fill it after an oil change with the volumes the manuals states, the oil light can come on like this.  If you fill to just below the sight glass, it will stop it happening.  There have been a few posts like this as its a known Fazer 1000 issue.

For what its worth, have tried 95% of the Gen 1 screens over the years with the exception of the really 'tall wide' ones.  Some have really surprised me  good & bad, where others have reported the opposite results.  To date to the ones that have stood out for me the Fabbri DB & this MRA DB has really surprised me.
Its not that tall or wide but seams to fit my overall envelope at 5ft 8", & really good for over a ton with no real buffeting.
It will all come down to our own individual riding position, height, helmet etc.  There will be one out there us all some where!

I used to pop out the iridium plugs before each winter storage to put oil in the cylinders, back with the plugs & re torque to spec after fully cleaning out that area, even the seat. Following year outer left plug would always come loose at some point!!

Use the choke that's what it's for, Ivanising reduces the need of the choke when cold but it will still need it.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Track/Paddock Pumps or whatever they are called?
« on: 19 September 2013, 10:54:29 am »
I wonder is it me or me Fazer or have the garage tyre pumps got harder to use?  Everything seems to be at the wrong angle & have to use an adaptor to overcome this which causes no end pain bending down longer than I have to in my aging years.

Therefore, have any of the forum got any feedback, are these any good or any other variants of them?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: gen 1 best fuel
« on: 26 August 2013, 08:56:19 pm »
After reading this tread, cant say I have ever taken much notice of the actual octane rating where I live, more about having to fill up with what is available before running out, although normally with all well branded suppliers of normal unleaded. That said, full Monty, Akra slip on, 3 deg advancer, TPS Dynamically set at full anti clockwise,................ran two full tanks today on BP unleaded 95 ron.  Runs a treat no problems at all just like with all the other different brands used, not that I am praising 95 Ron or this brand however, if there is anything better out there I'm all ears.

Anyone else got some feedback on the specific fuel used/state of tune setup?

I used to get some fully synthetic stuff called Amsoil MCF from Opei, supposed to be the best.  The old girl went through a litre roughly every 1000 miles.  Bike had done approx 10K so switched back to Yamalube semi, doesn't use anything now.

Damned IPAD, meant to say that stuff was £20 a litre!

« on: 13 August 2013, 07:26:48 pm »
Had a similar noise from my front sprocket, decided to try the 15T only to find the sprocket nut was only hand tight. Bike had covered 13K with a bearly tightened front sprocket, thank god the lock washer held up.

Has any gone up two teeth on the rear and down one teeth on the front?

If so will the standard chain length fit or will I have to add links?

Cheers

Standard chain is ok,  I used Renthal 15 front & fzs6 46 rear & works a treat, rocket machine on top the Full Monty.

Meant to add, I used a blunt needle normally for printer ink cartridge filling, they are really cheap on ebay, does the throttle & choke cables also but it's the clutch cable that you will really feel the difference.

This is the stuff.

Morning

Off the top of your collective heads, which 3rd part cans out there have a nice noise but don't rob the torque from the bottom of the rev range..

That MTC can has been sent back because of the un-curable piff/paff noise but also because the missing torque

I got a Stainless Yoshimura TPS that I recall doesn't & for sale if your interested? As new as I bought it as a spare, its in the loft all boxed up.

Halfords sell a Bikehut oil thats got Teflon in it.  Using a syringe with the hypo needle you can inject it directly into each cable at the servo.  Needs a couple of goes & some just floods back but as soon as you put enough in past the highest point, gravity is on your side & it siphons down in a day or so, even quicker with heat from the engine.  Did the same with the clutch cable, really works well.

Very nice, like you say not to big or small.....does it have the main stand stop on the underside of the link pipe?

66
That's the setup I have 46 tooth FZ6 rear & Renthal 15 tooth front.  A bit noisy without the OEM rubber but the power.  Who needs to do 150 mph around this crappy police state, it's how it's gets there is the fun bit.

What about your tank range?

67
Try droping one tooth on the front sprocket & two/three more on the rear, you will think your in forth gear.  A theoretical 70mph is a bit much for 1st gear for standard gearing, give the above above a bash you will be really surprised.

 Hi JoeRock,
Those plugs are the correct ones for the Gen 1 Fazer & for peace of mind I would service what you state below & more including the ‘exup’ valve, there is enough advice on the site plus the equivalent US site http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/index.php.
Chances are you will get more information & answers to your questions on the US site, the UK don’t seem to like new boys asking simple stuff as if we all should know it.  Ask “What colours’ your Fazer?” & you will get 100’s of reply’s but technical help is reserved for a few good members ones only, a good one being ‘Mike the Ivaniser’ who you will get to know from his expertise in making a great bike even better!  There are other worthy contributors’ on the UK site, you will see from the replies in threads ‘who’ they are!
Get yourself a at least a the Clymer workshop manual or even better the genuine ‘Yam’ one both can be found on eBay, study the procedures & give your new girl a good service, it’s easy to do & worthwhile in the end.
You have a great bike!

Hi Tommy,

Pm sent.

KTEC tell me it’s perfectly normal & nothing to worry about, they take many calls of the same nature.  Apparently it’s the main spring twisting as the loading starts & the noise I am hearing is either the spring moving on the pre load adjuster or hitting the internal tube.  Having only covered about 500 miles nothing could be worn!
I kind of accept this is the cause of the noise however; it still seams wrong its happening.

By chance earlier, I lent on the rear part of the bike causing the front wheel to rise off the ground, when I took my weight off I heard quite a load knocking sound from the front end as the wheel met the ground.  Rocking it back & forth on the centre stand the knocking sound is definitely there.

There is no play in head bearings & smooth from left to right, lifting the front end by the bottom of the forks to create the same rocking motion I can feel a mechanical knock same time as the knocking sound as the front wheel meets the ground. Off the centre stand holding the front brake pushing the forks up & down good smooth operation though the knocking sound is still there but a little less so it’s not the pads.

Forks had a KTEC upgrade last year along with head bearing greasing etc & have noticed nothing until today.

Could it be just some play in the fork internals causing this when they go from unloaded to loaded even with just the bikes weight on the centre stand?

Any ideas as it does not sound right?

As I say aren't cheap but they do come down quite a bit with best offer, the bits took 5 days, ordered Thu arrived Tue, from Germany. :eek
Looked at Zero Limit stuff but was put off by the delay in getting the bits and a couple of reports that complained of different thickness of carbon

Same company made me exact same without the gloss finish just standard carbon & took 8 weeks.

They will all regret it once they have sold them.  How much will it cost today for the same thrills if they are buying a newer bike.  Once everyone sells there 1000CC bikes for 800's they will just raise the tax on 800's.  Remember when diesel was cheaper than petrol!!
