ive got the 5sl r6 forks on my fazer, and am very happy with them.... what attracted me to this after kebab's excellent investigation into the logistics of this, is that it is a simple fork transplant.
i've got the original springs with 5w (light) fork oil, and they are fine.
i dont accept however that it is the same as a r1 fork swap, as the change in offest when using r1 yokes must further alter the handling and ride height of the bike.....
maybe kebab who has done both mods to his bike can comment.
to be honest i'm still considering the 5pw r1 fork upgrade..... does the change in offset when using these forks and r1 yokes somewhat compensate for the lower front end that you get by simply using 40mm shorter forks in the original yokes....... The wheelbase of a r1 forked fazer must be shorter than the wheelbase of my bike, but by how much and does it make a difference .... who knows
cheers all

thats definatly an american import fz1, but registered new in uk.... ive got one in grey/black colour.
those big indicators will incorporate daytime running lights which will have been disconnected before the bike was first registered.... the side reflectors have also been removed at some stage..... but why sell just because of that ??? engine power is same.... absolutly no problem owning a usa imported fazer/fz1

thanks for the replies.....maddog, i read that blog, and also other tests posted on youtube. the general opinion is pretty positive, i'll have to get a test ride sooner rather than later....wont change, ( if i do ) until next year, as it must be worse time to sell a bike at the moment.
thanks all

hi
you probably think i'm mad, but i'm seriously considering trading my gen 1 fazer 1000 for a honda nc700s.... I'm gonna get a test ride soon, but wonder if anyone else has tried one..... As i'm getting older i find i rarely take the fazer over 5k revs, and quite fancy the idea of a bike where all the torque is delivered between 3-5 k revs.... nc on the honda stands for new concept and its supposed to be great fun and fast, shortshifting through the box at 5k revs, coupled to tha fact that all the weight is low, it supposed to change direction really quick as well.
i have an rd400, and a rd350lc, and find i enjoy riding these more than the fazer latley, for me its not about outright speed anymore.... i must be getting old.
oppinions please

these r6 5sl forks are a revelation..... so much better than standard... i dont know if this is a function of the lower ride hight or better fork internals... i suspect its a combination of both.... it would be interesting to know if these r6 forks really do have better quality fork internals than standard, or do they all come out of the same parts bin.
also i know kebab had usd r1 forks and went to the normal way up r6 forks.... was this a backward step as far as handling goes.
anyway i'm very happy i did this.
cheers

hi luke... i think the point of this mod is that the forks just slide into the original fazer yokes.... no new r1 yokes with fazer stem needed, no loss of turning circle, better quality fork internals than standard, and a total doddle to fit... i have your r6 rear shock, and now a r6 front end as well... i think it looks superb, and much cheaper than a ktech revalve or the r1 fork mod.... also i know its a personal opinion, but i think normal way up forks look better on the fazer, more keeping with its overall style...

ive been playing with this today and my solution which gets the wheel central between the forks is to insert a m22 washer on the "bolt" side.... left hand side when viewing from the front.... i think using your solution of tightening the pinch bolts on the hex socket side first to hold the axle fast and tightening the bolt on the axle could be a bit dodgy as this could have the effect of bending the fork leg inward to take up the play between the spacer and the fork leg.
maybe you have different size spacers on your bike......but my wheel and spacers are about 2mm narrower than the fork width...
also i have manadged to utilise the fazer mudguard with the aid of some hollow tube and longer screws on the front fixings , and short metal plates for the rear fixings.
thanks, i couldnt have done this or thought about it without your research.

hi kebab firstly thanks for all the research regarding this mod.... i was looking to lower the front end, with better quality forks, but didnt want to go through all the hastle of the r1 fork conversion, so this solution seems ideal.
i have sourced a nice pair of 5sl forks and axle.... however when fitting the fazer wheel in the forks, when the axle bolt is tighten'd up fully it pulls the axel spindle through the forks by a few mm's hence the wheel is not central between the forks.
this is when i am using the original fazer wheel spacers (one each side).... do i need an additional spacer to enable the wheel to sit centred between the new forks.... i think an additional spacing washer fitted on the left hand side (when viewing from the front) may fix this problem, but is this what you had to do...
cheers
