Dreaded Speedo Issues
« on: 13 March 2014, 11:11:18 am »
good after morning fellow bikers...

another issue for me im afraid but it's not as bad as the last one....

My speedo died just went from 40mph to 0mph and stayed there... and is still there weeks later...

had front wheel off due to 90% of the time it's the lugs on the sensor unit... but they are fine and not broken.. next i checked fuses and they are all fine..

I have even tried replacing the whole clock unit itself and the issue still remains.. taken the clocks apart to look for anything broken and nothing... rev counter works normal and so does the fuel gauge....

suppose next thing to try is the speedo sender unit it's self but finding a cheap second hand one is like rocking horse poop lately.. and still no guarantee it would be that...

wire seems fine and not worn or broken..

Anything else i could try guys?

Dave

Sounds like you've covered the easy parts first - best bet is to keep trying to get hold of a new sender unit. They do come up every now and again

Check the white connector in the box under the tank.

Regarding that rotor sensor with lugs, how thin are the lugs themselves? And is it the original item/what age is it?

I had this problem and while the sensor unit itself was fine and unbroken, the lugs were worn down and therefore not spinning in the unit. My sensor rotor was original (bike's an '51 reg) and it was just worn thin. POSSIBLY it may have been jiggled when you last had the wheel off and hence dislodged it slightly, thus causing it to wear down more than normal.

Just a thought!
