It's too much!
« on: 26 September 2012, 11:17:34 pm »
I'll have to fill up again on Friday and that will mean that I've spent over £170 on fuel in one month!!! And that's purely "Fun Fuel", not commuting. Truth is, I just can't afford to spend that every month.

On top of that, I always end up spending more when I'm out on the bike because I go to places and become a tourist every weekend :lol .  I guess I need to stay in more or get a 125  :'(

Is anyone else feeling the fuel-pinch?

Yes the duty on fuel is evil.
My 600 is my commuter which thankfully I'm getting about 56 meg
Prob I have is our cage , old audi A4 v6 which get 22 mpg tops.
Which means we use the bike more ,great in good weather, but try bringing ya weeks shopping home on one  :\

Yep, a CG125 will solve the problem. At least twice as economical... and you won't want to cover a thousand miles a month on it either. :lol

I used to do my shopping on my Fazer; now I go by cycle, how green is that! :)

A few years after passing my test I went back to using my CG125. Man it was GREAT fun - you constantly rev the nuts off it and still get over 100 mpg :lol

If you took three of your plugs out you'd have a 250.  :lol

Now that's a good idea Andy  :lol

The commuting bit was just to clarify that I don't use the bike for anything other than leisure, Rusty. And don't even mention the 22mpg my car does! Good job my commuting is only 3 miles a day  :lol

Farjo - I have a friend who has a Fazer and a CB125. About 90% of his riding is done on the 125 and he absolutely loves it. Needless to say, if he goes touring, the Fazer comes out, but otherwise he rides everywhere at 100mpg. He says he gets looked down at when he's at the usual bike-gatherings by "proper" bikers  :lol .  They've no idea that he's been riding bikes for years, is a qualified instructor and could ride the pants off most of them  :rolleyes .

There is no point using the 250N as I had one 30yrs ago and it did 60mpg all the time so it's no better than my 600 Fazer :D

So at 22mpg your weekly 5 day commute to work costs you around £4.50 a week in petrol?  :rollin

Added to your 'leisure' petrol costs of £170.00 that's still only £188.00 a month in total. That's about forty seven quid a week of optional 'fun' fuel, and next to f*ck all to get to work.  All things considered that's not too bad.  :)

"They've no idea that he's been riding bikes for years, is a qualified instructor and could ride the pants off most of them" - I'm nowhere near that good, but I enjoyed filtering past all the sportsbike riders.

"Good job my commuting is only 3 miles a day" 1½ miles each way? You could walk that in 20 minutes, lose some weight and thus improve your MPG :thumbup

How about walking to work.... while wearing a Bowler hat and carrying a I-pad?  :)
Then everyone knows your not poor because you wear a suit to work - and especially not when you carry an I-pad. (or perhaps a Daily Telegraph)

It appears £170 a month on leisure fuel is no big deal to some on here, but I'm not afraid to admit it's really starting to stretch me.  Then again, some people barely ride their bikes.

Personally I don't think that £170.00 is an insignificant amount to spend on fuel - especially if it's unavoidable. However to some (myself included) bikes are just big toys and there's no compulsory element as to when or how often they must play with them.  ;)
