Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Clutch arm moving up?
« on: 05 April 2019, 06:57:44 am »
My clutch arm seems to be working it's way out of the engine. See photos - check out the spring, which used to be quite "compressed". Any ideas? Have I got to remove clutch cover to sort this? Engine is also making occasional click whilst ticking over but I'm having a hard time tracing this and wonder if they might be related. Bike has done 30,000 miles.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / HELP! META M357T-V2
« on: 03 October 2016, 07:01:33 pm »
Hi, all you FOC-cers :)

I've had what I thought was the well-documented problem, with my META M357T-V2 (NOT V2-1) internal battery dying.

I've seen all the previous posts plus similar ones from other forums.

Wanting to remove the immobiliser temporarily, I've tried to pin-out the plug(s) with paper clips.
as per photo found elsewhere on here (attached for reference).

The starter motor is now turning over, but the bike is making no attempt to fire.

Seems like the ECU pin-out isn't working.

I've seen on other forums (and our own FZ6) that there are different pin-outs for different bikes - is it possible I've got the wrong 2 connections for mine? 2004 FZS1000 (Mk1) by the way.

Sorry for the urgency but the bike is my only form of transport here at the moment - my other bikes have now been put up for winter and are in fact parked 170 miles away. Oh and I'm booked on a Welsh riding weekend THIS weekend. DOH!

PS - also, I've found a magnet (for a reed switch) which was glued to my seat, and the matching switch fastened inside the frame.
What does this do? I assumed it put the alarm in "service" mode. Coincidentally, the magnet had fallen off the seat but for the time being, I
have taped it to the reed switch, so it thinks the seat is in place.

Thanks, in anticipation. Dave

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / HELP! Snapped EXUP bolt
« on: 19 April 2015, 10:34:05 pm »
Sorry, I only seem to be posting problems just lately  :eek

Finally bit the bullet and decided to strip out the EXUP valve for a clean and regrease.

Bearing in mind where the bolts are, soaked them in ACF50, then WD40 and left it 2 days before tackling,

All bolts came out OK, except the bottom-most bolt in the valve end plate. This was tight, so as seen elsewhere, tried tightening it slightly to crack it before loosening. Bolt seemed to move 5 degrees or so, so seemed a good idea. Gradually worked it back and forward those 5 degrees and sure enough - SNAP. Obviously made of cheese.
Anyway, who's got experience, good or bad, on getting these bastards out "in situ" ? I've successfully drilled out snapped off exhaust studs on my GPz before now, so I'm happy to try it without removing the exhaust.  What worked for you, and just as important, what didn't??? Thanks in advance.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / HELP ! Burning electrical smell - any ideas?
« on: 09 April 2015, 01:15:57 pm »
Hi, just had three days away on the bike including the Lytham to Whitby coast-to-coast run.
On Sunday night, bikes were left out on a hotel car park, and there was a lot of condensation overnight.
This is the first time the bike has not been garaged at night!
Upon first starting, the motor did not catch straight away, in fact it seemed to struggle and even stop, and a cloud of smoke emerged from the right hand side panel of the bike (although the bike was on side stand and of course, smoke rises.....)
The smoke smelt like something electrical was burning, like a burnt out motor.
I stopped the bike, whipped the seat up but we couldn't see where the smoke had come from.
Everything electrical still seems to be working and the bike starts normally now, but shortly after riding away, I still catch the odd whiff of electrical burning every time.
I've not yet had time to start removing the tank and panels yet, to get a closer look, but I have trips away to the TT and Nurburgring coming up, and i'm absolutely petrified that the bike will break down abroad (yes, I AM looking into Euro-recovery).
Does anyone have any ideas where to start looking? Thanks in advance.

Hi FOC-cers,
got Mike Greatorex coming over in May to Ivanise my Fazer Thou and I now need to sort out a decent end can and link pipe out of next months overdraft :-D
Mike's already been kind enough to make a few recommendations, but I wondered what you guys who already have the Full Monty are already using or may have even changed since the kit was fitted?
All experience gratefully received positive or negative.

I've managed to score a cheap BOS link pipe off FleaBay that I hoped to use with my Akrapovic race can but I'm pissed off to find the BOS is a 60mm diameter link with springs whilst my Akra has a 50mm.
My fault - not enough questions. DOH!
Does anyone know of ANY other bikes using a 60mm diameter inlet so I could try to source a 60mm carbon race can from that model.
Thanks in advance.
Dave
