Future jobs include changing the screen to something shorter to cut the dirty air.
Do you use ear plugs

Yes I do but the screen (MRA) that is on the bike sends the air directly at my face.  Very noisy and after even a few hours riding I have a slight ringing in my ears.  One of those sport screens should do it.  I'm OK with taking clean air to the front of the helmet.  I've spent the last two years riding an unfaired bike and my R1200S has a screen low enough that the dirty air hits the top of my chest.

Well, i've had it for a few weeks and put a few hundred miles on it now.  It came with a nearly new full spec Maxton rear shock but the whole bike was set to 'full hard' (previous owner was 5stone heavier than me!) so i've had a fiddle and it's a whole lot better now.  That rear shock is lush.  I set the front forks to factory setting and it was a vast improvement but yesterday I gave the compression another click which helped.  I still think they compress a bit too much under braking so next trip i'll increase the pre-load a bit.   I was having trouble with the gearbox too.  It was lovely on the upshifts, giving me perfect clutchless changes, but going down the box (with the clutch) I was almost having to stamp on the gearlever.  I did a bit of research and found that the chain needs 45-50mm of slack.  I checked and mine was set to 20mm.  Having now adjusted it correctly I can change gear without straining my foot!  Future jobs include changing the screen to something shorter to cut the dirty wind noise, and subsequent tinnitus, and some black (or maybe grey) Renthal 758's as soon as there are some in stock somewhere.

Before my bike had even arrived I bought new Givi arms and monorack and sourced a used V46 top box (my first top box in 39yrs of bikes!) so I fitted that last weekend.  My first ride out with it tomorrow and I’m very much looking forward to having a boot!

Yeah, I bought a rake of different sizes/ports from AliExpress but not as many as one needs to buy from Screwfix to get the good price.

Ah, one more question.  Do you know if it’s British Standard Whitworth or something else?

Not as clean as mine either (although 10k Miles ‘and all due respect to the previous owner) and I didn’t pay that much. Looks like very top end of the dealer prices there. Good luck though. I think the Fazer Is a well kept secret and there are some crackers still out there.

Thanks a lot fellas. I’ll be doing that.  Robbie, is that a 16mm diameter tap? If I’m correct that equates to 5/8 when looking for a tap?

I started school with imperial but by the time I left it was metric!

Cheers

I’ve researched replacement bars as I’m used to a wider slightly straighter bar on my Guzzi Griso and I Had Ultra Lows on my old ZRX1200R so that’s the direction I’m going in.  I won’t be near my bike for a couple of weeks but want to order the bars.  As they are a little straighter can anyone who’s done this swap tell me if there’s any possibility with a fairing clash or is there plenty of space.

Ta much.

That's interesting. It looks good.    I recently converted from stacks of ring terminals to 'Wago connectors'.  I attach one 5 port wago to each battery terminal using six inches of 1mm single core and then attach up to four peripheral items to the wago's.  The snap connectors are pretty safe but just in case, I wrap them with electrical tape to ensure the orange levers never get pulled open.  They take up very little room and on the Fazer they drop down into the recess just in front of the battery. I'm never running anything like 20amps so they're fine. Also, Amazon will sell you a pack of five for £4.   Next time i'm at my bike i'll take a few pics.

I had the baffle in mine at all times and it was a lovely balance of fruity rort but not too loud.
I think you'll really like it when installed  :D

Good to hear. I’ll order one on Monday.

Thanks guys.

Robbi/dude of rude   Yes it’s too good for me really and I’ve never seen a bike as clean as this even in a showroom!

Dynspud.  I’m pleased with the pipe.  Finish looks good and that Matt silver really works well.  TBH it’s a tad loud for me and gets tedious in a long run so I’m going to try the baffle. Pipe werx sell them for £25 I believe.

Morning.  I am venturing back into four cylinder biking for a while.  I've been on BMW's and a Guzzi for the last 15yrs and having just sold my Griso 1200SE the other week I was offered this particularly nice Fazer 1000 and just couldn't turn it down. I ran a modified Kawasaki ZRX1200R alongside the Beemer for a year to keep my 4cylinder hand in and I still have the BMW R1200S in the garage that I usually use for touring but currently doesn't work. (ignition problem)  The fazer is ostensibly to go touring on but at present I'm enjoying thrapping around everywhere on it and taking full advantage of the TomTom go winding roads facility. I'm sure the previous owner would have been on here but I don't know his tag name.  It's utterly immaculate and only has 10k miles on it.  He has done the most amazing job of looking after it.  Maxton rear shock, Ivans 'full monty' and some lovely carbon.  The Guzzi was meant to be a 'forever bike' but ultimately was too uncomfortable.  The Fazer is lush in comparison and I'm looking forward to many miles on it.  I still have hope that i'll be able to get to France/Switzerland later in the year.  I plan to put some Oxford heated grips and a Scotoiler on it in the near future and I already have a new set of Givi monolock rack and a used V46 top box in anticipation of touring but otherwise i'll leave it alone.
