General / Can't decide what to get next..!
« on: 23 February 2016, 10:48:41 pm »
My trust old FZS600 has over 100k miles and while it's still a great bike, it has had a rough past, and I am itching for a change.
I have been trawling For Sale section here, and googling rest of the interwebs so much that Google is now throwing CAPTCHAs at me!  :rolleyes

My main use is to commute - 70 kms each way - half of it fast motorway and other half still mostly motorway but filtering / lane splitting. I have been reading up on NC750X/S (+frunk, +frugal, -fairing, -gutless?), FZ1S (+fun, -range, -mpg), FZS1000 (+great in everyway, -heavy, -ABS), VFR1200 (+quality, -cost, -issues), Tracer (+new, +great, -cost, -bars too wide for filtering) etc etc.

I can't really make up my mind - I could spend up to 10k euro MAX - ideally 4-5k (that is £7000k max, but prefer to spend around 3-4k sterling as I rack up miles and bikes will melt away with road salt and grime in winter).

I wondered what great wise foc-ers would recommend.. I realise that FZS1000 is a hot favorite here...

Cheers!

For Sale & Wanted / Checking interest... Fazer 1000 blue spot caliper
« on: 21 April 2015, 08:57:39 pm »
I bought one of these off eBay USA. And while it was on it's way, I got another one locally. Now UPS is knocking at my door and want even more money (duty, vat, service charge, tip, commission, handing fee, screw-you fee etc etc).

So just wondering if anyone here is looking for one of these - supposedly as rare as rocking horse poo according to a foccer.

Would someone give me £120 for a Fazer 1000 caliper in decent condition (has some scrape marks though) plus the caliper hanger? They came off a 2005 Fazer 1000 over in US of A.

For Sale & Wanted / Broken MRA Screen for Fazer
« on: 19 April 2015, 01:23:17 pm »
And if you are wondering why would anyone want to buy a broken one, I don't know either..

I am posting this because a year or two ago when I mentioned my little incident that broke the screen, someone here (can't find the message / pm) wanted the broken MRA screen for something (possibly the hinges).

If that person / anyone else wants it, just PM. How much... hmm ONE MILLION DOLLAAAHSSS... Or postage.

For Sale & Wanted / WANTED Fazer 600 / 1000 rear caliper
« on: 13 April 2015, 10:16:55 pm »
I see this is a recurring theme here.. and unfortunately it's my turn this time.

I had rear brake seize up on me this morning on way to work, doing 100 kmph on the fastest lane of the motorway of course...  I had to stop on the divider, and they had to bring traffic to a rolling stop to let me out of there.  :\  Lucky day to be honest!

So now I am looking for a new caliper (had this one conditioned at least once before.. ). Ideally the Fazer 1000 blue spot thing that everyone recommends... I've already pm'ed RTM as he said somewhere that he has one. I found another one on eBay somewhere in US, shipping isn't cheap and would take week+ to get it here. And just the thought of getting train to work in decent weather like this...  :'(

FZS600 Fazer / Headlight not working
« on: 09 September 2014, 11:19:13 am »
There was a thread similar to this here, but I can't find it now... guess I am starting to lose my interwebz skillz!

My poor and long suffering Fazer's headlight hasn't been too well since my minor accident some two years ago. But it was never a problem as it was stuck ON. I always leave it on on road anyway, so it suited me. However, after I did the engine coolant flush last month, the headlights behaved differently for a day - that is I could turn it off and on as I please - and then a day later it broke again and this time it on the OFF setting. This was almost okay as the days were bright and long, but now that it's starting to change... I really should get this fixed.

So the symptoms are that the main/dip beams are not coming on. Side lights can be turned on and off. Rest of the lights are all working. I can flash the headlight using the "pass" button on the left hand control, so the bulbs are fine too. Yesterday I opened the right hand switch gear and predictably it was pretty grim in there. So I tried cleaning it with some WD40 and some brake cleaner (probably not my brightest moment - in my defense, I was very very jet-lagged). Anyway, it didn't help.

Could this be that '5-pin relay' thing that was mentioned in the other thread? Or should I try changing the right hand switch gear first (easier to get than the relay).

Thanks a million!

FZS600 Fazer / [Fixed] Will not rev past 8k
« on: 11 June 2014, 12:28:38 pm »
Hi,

2003 Fazer is my main commuter and I do about 60-70 miles a day. It was restricted to 33 bhp up until March, so it didn't revv past 7-8k, so I assumed it's the restriction. However, since the restriction washers has been removed, I can feel the overall power has gone up much higher, but the bike seems to struggle when it reaches around 7-8k rpm on the motorway. When it reaches this rpm range, it feels as hesitant to go forward, as if someone is applying and releasing the brake rapidly. This is the case in 6th, 5th and even 4th gear. I can take beyond 8k on 3rd gear if I remember correctly, I will confirm later. Over all fuel consumption has shot up since derestriction. And especially when I take the bike to this 'boggle zone', I can almost see the fuel needle moving! I have checked the exhuast headers and all four seems to hot - meaning all four cylinders are firing. Bike is serviced every six-nine months (6-9k miles)

What could this be? Where should I start? I should add I don't really know much about the inner workings of the bikes - but I am ready to invest some money and time and keen to learn.

Thanks a million!

For Sale & Wanted / Renthal bars for FZS600
« on: 03 June 2014, 04:06:06 pm »
Hi,

Recently I spent a day riding a FZ8 S around south of Spain. One of the things I noticed was the nice and wide handlebar on the FZ8, compared to my FZS600. Back on my bike this week, the handlebars feels cramped and right side is slightly out of alignment as well

I read here that you could get Renthal bars and with some chopping and changing, you would get it work well with the FZS600.

Does anyone have a Renthal bar used or spare for sale?

Thanks!

Hello foc'ers!

My belevod FZS 600 is a bit rough looking after being put to good use throughout last few winters and from a senseless junkie kicking the biker over... the poor poor bike. I am now looking to give it what it deserves - some care and attention.

If anyone have of the following knocking around, I would be really keen to hear from you..

1. Right side rear-view mirror (Or both mirrors)
2. Main / Center stand
3. The standard/single/double bubble screen - even a broken one would do actually - as I am  looking for just the bottom 6 inches to repair my MRA touring screen (which is like 100+ to replace, hence the attempt to patch it).

I am in Dublin, Ireland.

Thanks for looking!  :)

FZS600 Fazer / Fazer gone Volvo
« on: 23 August 2012, 11:07:13 am »
So I had a minor incident about a month ago - it was wet and I wasn't looking where I was going, and braked too late, skidded all over the place and finally stopped against the rear end of a BMW 1150. Damage to BMW was the tail cluster and the metal carrier - about 250 to replace. My poor Fazer on the other hand, had the front fairings pushed back a bit, some new cracks - wonky looking over all. Bottom of the MRA screen has shattered etc.

However, since the tip, the headlamps are always on. I can not seem to turn them off - there was no damage to the on/off switch or anything, but lights come on as soon as turn the ignition on. It's not a big deal as I always ride with the light on anyway, but just wondering what could be the reason? I would have thought there is nothing behind the lamp/bulb itself that would decide when the ligh comes on off - and there was no impact or damage to the switch part either.

Any thoughts?

thanks a mil!
