Thanks everyone, I'm feeling much better about things, without any beer too Tonie, so it must be good :lol

We went up yesterday to sort out a couple of things, someone close has a fireblade, so hopefully I'll be in good company.

I'll post on here when we're there and sort out a day, obviously I have to negotiate a day pass to go out :)

The A607 AND A6O6 are both good roads but the best is the B6047 from Market Harborough to Melton Mowbray, its one of my favourites anywhere. Ride safe, Su.
I agree I too am in Leicester and love the Mkt Harborough to Melton run and then if I feel like it - carry on to Grantham - turn around at the roundabout just befor the town and a1 (think there is some pub on the corner) .

I will look forward to it, and a social ride is a social ride so no worries about speed I m not the fastest. Let me know when you have a date free and i m sure others would join in. A breakfast followed by an Ice-cream at the sea side sounds a good day out to me. What do others in the area think?

Sounds good but I ant going if there is any rain or threat  their of

Today is my last day living in Hertford after  51 years here. I have very mixed emotions scared and excited about the new house.

I am looking forward to not tripping over boxes all the time, finally having a garage for the bike, and hopefully a few nice rides out.

Thanks for all your comments, it would be great to see some of you at the cafe and then maybe a trip to the coast

We're on the St Mellion heights site built by Jelson, it's a little way out of the town, typical new estate but it looks OK
Worked on that site. I think they managed to put a couple houses in the right place! :eek

I moved to Grantham about 4 years ago, nice and quiet really, town centre traffic is a nightmare, but like mentioned already once out of town theres some great roads, nip up to grantham honda for a bacon roll (cob) 2 mins from your house.

A run to Matlock Bath is compulsary for a mini fish and chips,

Drop me  a message when you are settled if you fancy a run out

Thanks Simon, we've already gathered that the town traffic is dreadful, but so far we love it.

Going to pick the bike up from a friends garage tomorrow, I'll post when I've got a day off, and hopefully a few of us can have a run out.

Grantham doesn't have a twin town you know.

It does however have a suicide pact with Grimsby.   :D

What is the Rd that runs from Grantham to Castle Bytham and then on to Bourne? If I remember rightly you turn Right from Grantham Honda go down to A1 but don't join the A1 stay in slip RD and turn left about a quarter of a mile down.I think the locals nick name it the twisties.I had a mate take me down there a few times to try and get my cornering confidence up.

Thanks Sharky, I'll post when I'm sorted.

Who is the best mechanic around here? Mine needs a MOT back tyre and service in June, I was thinking about taking it back where I used to as I trust them, but it's a bit far and a boring ride.

By the way, when I was at Grantham station this bloke who was working there said there is a brilliant road that has a corner like the Laguna seca corkscrew. I haven't really got out just yet, been going up and down the A1 going to work and unloading boxes.

No probz kev,

I can sort all your work on the bike mate, and the MOT too.  :)

I think I know the road with the corkscrew on it. One of my favourites  8)

As fazersharp said the roads out to Melton way are really good. And I know a man who knows them like the back of his hand.

Then of course there's the other way out to skeggy and mablethorpe way.

Hope you are settling in ok mate  :)

As a final say on this subject, sort of an epilogue.

We've been here 2 months, we're getting a bit straighter, and I can actually move round the garage!

I have to say that we are loving the area, everyone seems far more chilled out than in the south, and the roads!! I had no idea roads like this still existed.

I've not got out very much on the bike, I've just had the MOT, back tyre and service done by Sharkey(whom I can thoroughly recommend)and now all I need is some time off to get out and enjoy it, I've got a couple of days in July(Wife going to France, 2 full day passes)so as long as it's not pissing with rain, I'll be off to the coast for an ice cream.

Thanks again to everyone who tried to calm my initial worries, it's only when we got here that I wish I'd done it sooner.

Kev :D
