Monday, I realised the back brake wasn’t going to get through the imminent MOT. In fact, I was surprised it passed last year, So I dismantled it, cleaned the corrosion out of the grooves and replaced the seals.
It was a bastard of a job to get the pistons back in as the dust seal kept trying to roll over and jam.
Perhaps a suitable thickness washer would have allowed the pads to rest on the other side of the securing pins rather than in the deep trench they’d ground themselves, but I’d already gone to the expense of buying new ones.
Today, MOT day, I made the mistake of washing the bike before heading off to the test. The bike hates this and runs on 2 or 3 cylinders for the next 30 miles… at one point I wasn’t even sure it would get there.
Anyway, it scraped a pass: noisy exhaust, chain needs replacing and steering head bearings are slightly loose… poor show, but I’ve only had time to ride it rather than maintain it over the past year. Hopefully I’ll get the two important advisories attended to this weekend.
