I'll probably go this year weather dependant; however if a good response materialises to take advantage of the group discount offer - I'll definitely go... I need to get my bike porn fix...

I've spent the last 2 weekends stripping, polishing and painting my wheels on my gen 1. Surprisingly I didn't get any real problems removing the disc bolts; I was obviously lucky...

I have replaced them however with Stainless bolts from Ebay knowing I'd get issues with the old cheese bolts in the future!

Getting new tyres fitted this afternoon and I can't wait to get the wheels back on the bike later... :-)

I'm still yet to download the pics from my camera and will add some soon mate... ;-)

If you're a petrol head and love your old school and retro, this show will be just up your street. It even opened my eyes and I thought I'd seen it all... ;-)

I went on Sunday. Had a really good day. 2/3 cars and 1/3 bikes. Lots of rare and beautiful models; both bikes and cars... The auto jumble was immense; if it wasn't there it wasn't worth having or seeing... Lots of specialist motor clubs, technical demonstrations and even the wall of death was there...
I met Mike Brewer & Ed China from TV's Wheeler Dealers and saw interview with John Mooneye Cooper; the bike racer who apparently instigated / invented the getting your knee down technique...
To top it all I had a good blat up the Fosse Way and back, and for the first time all year the bike ran perfectly - no more engine issues...!

:-)

I used the same internal diameter piping and 'T' pieces as instructed on the link. Seems to work a treat... ;-)

I did the whole mod linking all the carbs including adding an additional 'T' piece in the manifold to connect the AIS feed...

The bike seems to start easier, runs smoother and a bit more responsive.... :-)

Good point... I'll drop some 3-in-1 oil in my barrel later to prevent any potential reoccurring symptoms... ;-)

I did this mod to mine the other day and I'd recommend it...

I concur with schlumpf; I had the same issues with mine! WD40 in the Ignition Barrel cured it completely on mine... ;-)

Hay guys... On Saturday I tried flooding the ignition key with WD40 as suggested; disconnected the barrel's wiring and exercised the key a dozen or so times...
I connected everything back up and gave it a test and it started first time with no issues...  :)

On Sunday I went for a 100 mile round trip via Malvern Classic bike Show, nr Gloucester. She ran perfect; no starting or cutting out under heavy load...  :D

I'm back in love with my gen1 again; full confidence restored... It's only taken 12 months to successfully diagnose lol...  :rolleyes

On the positive side I've repaired, upgraded, refurbished and removed everything on the bike that would potentially cause any future issues...

Hi Fazerblue, regarding the (aluminium) 'Clock Rings' / surrounds; unfortunatly these were comissioned a few years ago by Devilsyam. Only around a dozen or so sets were made. I beleive the chap that actually made them has since died!

The only way to get some now is to commission someone else / engineering company... :-/

I've got an original Yamaha accessories catalogue for the gen1 Fazer and yes it's an OEM part... Occasionally they pop up on Ebay for around £40 +/-

Cheers for the replies guys and very helpful...  :thumbup

I'll try the WD40 flush first ;) before I'm forced to replace the barrel...  :\

I just watched a YouTube clip of some guy removing an Ignition Barrel from an R6 (very similar to my gen1).
The bolts used to attach the barrel to the top yoke are snap off security bolts!  :grumble The guy on YouTube used a Dremel (which I don't have!) to cut a slot in each bolt to get a flat blade screwdriver on it. Unfortunately he also had to add some high heat (which I also don't have!) to encourage unscrewing of bolt removal!
This looks to be quite an awkward job!  >:

If there are any handy tips out there I'd be very grateful...  :thumbup

For almost 12 months now I've had an issue with my gen1 starting and engine cutting out under heavy load / speed.
I had my alarm removed a few months back as I concluded after addressing every other option recommended by you guys that this must be the culprit!  :rolleyes

Recently however, guess what...? My gremlin is back!  :wall

BUT; when I was out on the Hoggin the Bridge event on Sunday I managed to identify the intermittent fault...
As I was riding home my key ring was flapping in the wind and when I went to move it, the engine temporarily stalled! I did a few times to confirm and low and behold I was able to replicate the fault!!!  :think

Has anyone else experienced this with theirs?

I'm going to strip down the ignition barrel one evening this week and hopefully fix it. If not replace it...  :smash

The weather for HTB was perfect if a little windy. I met my brother on route as usual and got to the Severn services an hour before kick off. Around 1000 bike's pitched up before the start... We left at 11am and rode through several villages lined with people to cheer us through. This took almost 2 hours before arriving at Chepstow Race Course.
Apart from an enormous bike show car park there was only a hand full of traders - mostly charities and one band playing Genesis; unlike what was promised... It wasn't a scratch on when it was held in Chepstow town in past years, so we left soon after and had fish & chips in town...

As a result I don't this I'll be attending next year and go to the Western Beach Race instead... I've done a few HTB rides now. Time for something different...

The weather for Sunday is currently improving from moist and now looking to be a dry day...

A good browse round the HTB link should hopefully encourage more to take part...

I've attended this event quite a few times now and it's a great ride and day out... Lots of people line the streets as we ride through villages on route. In past years we finished up in Chepstow town centre, but now it's at Chepstow Race Course...
