Anyone in the Wiltshire area?
« on: 18 July 2014, 07:00:23 pm »
Hi all.

Got what I think is the dreaded cam chain tensioner rattle.

Also the bike seems a touch vibratey at times, perhaps a carb balancing issue?

Is there anyone on here or anyone recommended / competitively priced who can do this work for me?

Any help would be great. Last thing I need is a chain snap or something!

Thanks

I'm warminster trowbridge area.

Phoned pheonix where I'm a regular.

They will charge £40 to balance the carbs and advise a service first which is fine.

The tension job which Imo is the most important,  they won't do the job but will sell me a tensioner kit at £105

Thanks

I'm in Lyneham just outside Royal Wootton Bassett. I can only suggest; Bike Treads, Steve Lynham, Blade Motorcycles... All in Swindon

AKA - Jase / Carbonkid...

Thanks for the replies guys.

Looks like in actual fact its a damn Cam chain I'm needing.

Anyone got any experiences with any of these guys?
Looks like I'm looking for the job to be done, I could take the engine out if required, though don't really want to...

Thanks

p.s (I'm based in Warminster / Trowbridge areas, but again can travel and leave the bike if required)

I generally do all the work on my bike myself, but for jobs I don't want to so, like fork seals I use parsons in radstock. They are slightly more motorcross based but I've always had good service from them.

My fz6 has had some work done on it by bike aid with the previous owner, mainly the exhaust fitting was rather bodged, but it's been serviced there and I haven't found anything else wrong yet.

Phoenix-I've heard mixed things from their customers, overall good but a few people I know have had issues with their brakes after Phoenix had them.

Have to say in supprized that Phoenix won't change your timing chain, I changed the one on my car whilst I had the head off to get skimmed. It wasn't too bad to do on my car and can't immmagine it's that much worse on a bike.

Phoenix sub some of their larger jobs out to an ex mechanic who's gone on his own.

I think I'll do the job myself, looks like I'll need a torque wrench and chain tool, then I'll do almost any job myself.

Phoenix forgot to charge me for my mot and it passed with no advisories which I was chuffed with, the service is second to none also, I've bought all my odd bits from there, when my chain snapped I needed clutch rods, seals, gaskets and some fiddly bits, they were astonishingly willing to help, but slightly pricey on some things, main dealer prerogative I guess.

I don't like garages with reputations of bodge, I can bodge anything myself and if I couldn't I know someone who could, sod paying the going rate for a job to get a bodge.

Terrified of paying for the job to be done by a total bodge artist, I'd sooner do it myself over a whole weekend, save my cash and know that at least I don't have a handful of bolts left and the like..

Still looking for recommendations on chain tools that'll work for this type of chain, and now a reasonably priced torque wrench 1-30nm or more range also... Lol

Thanks

I use teng tools.
Would definitely recommend them, great quality for the price.

Good luck getting it sorted soon ;)
