General / Drive chain adjustment

Chain adjustment according to the manual is checked with bike on the centre stand.
Is the 30-45mm slack range designed to allow for addition of rider weight and luggage with maximum load being 183kg.
If so is it best to make adjustments according to situation ie if touring with her indoors riding pillion clutching her handbag containing the kitchen sink, would the aim be to have 45mm slack unloaded and say aim for the 30mm if lucky enough to get away with just the kitchen sink and leaving her in doors.
Does the suspension setting also come in to play

Filling up at the pump last night when a fellow fazer owner going to pay made a purposeful nod my way. I thought about shouting Foc u to him, but I didn't. Not sure he'd have understood

Just fitted the hugger which came with the bike, just the scottoiler to do now.
Not sure I'm keen on the length of the chain guard, it's much shorter than the original and leaves quite a bit of the rear sprocket exposed. Is this a standard or just that i have a cheapy one.

General / How mobile should a thumb be

Ok, so I've taken to the roads in my nice new outfit on my maiden ride after 20 years of motorcycle celibacy. Hitting the straights in awe of this new found throbbing beast now between my legs. Which unlike its neighbouring original shows an increased performance after hitting 40 .
My only problem with the experience, other than me being rather crap on the bends is that my nice new pair of gloves don't allow my thumbs to reach up and across to the switches, indicator lights etc without my lifting hand away from levers and grips which kind of interfered at times with the flow of the ride.
Is this just me being a noob, are all thumbs immobilized. Will the leather/gore tex between thumb and fore finger stretch over time and rectify this. I don't think the gloves are too small, even though real thumb fits to end of glove thumb [size=78%] [/size]

Hi All
What to say hmm??
Well I'd like to class myself as a born again biker, but don't think 125's (tho one was an RD twin ) and a 400 dream qualify.
I've Just bought a 2003 fazer for my 45th birthday prezzie to myself. I live in NW Kent and will probably use the bike to commute into London as well as hopefully meet members local who are willing to let a noob tag along for social rides, lemonades and advise
I just read a post titled silly questions where tyre pressure were mentioned for the more burly 90kg rider.
NINETY KILOGRAMS BURLY!!! My knees can only dream
So should the tyre pressures increase with weight and is there a point where they become too hard for safe riding?
