Fazer luggage help

Hi, can anyone help? I looking to purchase some decent luggage for my 2012 fazer8 for an upcoming trip to the alps, ive recently fitted a R&G tailtidy , ive looked at the sw motech blaze saddlebags, from the pictures ive found online they look as if they fit ? not sure though? I would also consider a topbox and rack, anyone got any advise.

I recently bought an FZ8 that had the OE Yamaha rack fitted.. I have since removed it and replaced the rear bodywork that has to be cut to fit it.

Both items are for sale (not actually posted them up yet) but if you wanted the rack and the pre-cut rear body work (white) to save slicing up your own bodywork just let me know..

For a pic, take a look at my thread about 4 or 5 down in this FZ8 section and there are a few pics of the offending rack.

I have the SW Motech Blaze saddle bags.

The only bit that might be model specific is where you attach the latches for the support arms on the rear pegs.

*just looked, the FZ1 and FZ8 seems to be the same kit.

You could always look at the Ventura luggage system. It comprises of a rack holding the luggage on it. Some of my friends have it on their sports bikes and it is easy to detack the luggage from it.  I use the Givi luggage and it is well put together and the price is ok.

A top box and magnetic tank bag are the best combination. The top box is secure and quickly detachable when you stop and the tank bag is handy for waterproofs, clothes, maps, toll money etc and you can carry it around when you stop (sightseeing).


If you can't fit a top box I would go for a tail pack and tank bag but the tail pack is a pain to bungee every morning and evening. I wouldn't bother with soft panniers unless you are taking a passenger. I had some for years and never used them, same security and fitting issues as a tail pack.


The non-slip mesh you can buy from the pound shops is good for protecting bodywork with soft luggage, bungees etc.
