Hi,
Question here for 98-03 Fazer owners who live in places where road surfaces are not good requiring a deeper tyre tread which is better on loose ground than sport touring tyres are?

Obviously a single cylinder bike would be the bike of choice but have any Fazer owners maybe in countries around the world fitted tyres which can grip well on loose ground at slow ish speeds?
Sure - such tyres wouldn't have the speed rating that Yamaha intends for Fazer 600s so higher speed riding would be out.
Anyone from around the globe deviated from the normal tyre choice?

Do any of you '02-'05 Thou boys have a Givi Wingrack fitted to your bike?
I haven't seen one myself fitted to a Thou but I've been told they do exist.

Wingracks, being the same for all bikes, I'm interested in whether Givi did actually produce an FZS1000 '02-'05 specific fitting kit? (that is - arms connecting pillion hangers to Wingrack as well as integral Grab rail being connected to the Wingrack........they are the normal parts making up bike-model-specific Givi Wingrack fitting kits).

Cheers in advance

FZS600 Fazer / Side mounted Dual Air horn?
« on: 19 July 2016, 10:33:20 pm »
Has anyone fitted a 'Ring' Dual Air horn or 'Stebel' Dual Air horn (and theres a waterproof version) onto the part of the FZS600 just forward of the engine on the side? that would be somewhere below the front indicator? I've seen naked bikes with horns fitted in that area of the bike so wondered if any '98-'03 fazer owners on this site have also done that?
...cheers in advance,....

FZS600 Fazer / ECU rain-water protection? '98-'03 FZS600
« on: 13 July 2016, 08:23:35 pm »
I'm getting rain water collecting where the ECU is (under the tool kit) left hand side, ie near where the wires lead out of the ECU box. Probably wouldn't actually short circuit anything as all the electrics are insulated etc. But seeing water near the ECU box/wires doesn't bide too well with me.

If anyone could post a photo of that section of their '98-'03 FZS600 showing the (correct) positioning of all the rubber flaps then I could make sure that section of my bike is how it should be?
As I'm assuming all that rubber is out of position on my bike hence its letting rain water in somehow.......Any takers?

FZS600 Fazer / cig charger socket beside ignition switch
« on: 29 December 2015, 08:38:51 pm »
Is anyone able to post photos of their FZS600 which has a cig lighter charger socket next to the ignition switch?
I believe there is actually the space to fit one there, but I could be wrong.

FZS600 Fazer / Side stand engine cut out switch in more detail?
« on: 27 October 2015, 12:56:55 pm »
Tricky one to explain this, but here goes:
Should the side stand engine cut out switch - 1)stop the engine when bike's in gear (with clutch pulled in) when the side stand's down? OR   2)should the engine cut itself out at the moment when the clutch is let out - as you ride off (when the side stand's down)?

FZS600 Fazer / Ideas to stop chain's rear side plates drying out?
« on: 15 August 2015, 10:42:48 pm »
Does anyone know what's the best compromise spray-on chain lube to spray on the rear plates of the chain to stop the chain drying out in cold dry weather?
I've got an auto chain oiler fitted but chain oilers can't lube the chain when the bike's not being ridden. Brushing over the chain with Scottoil is the best option but with a bike parked out doors is not a quick and easy task in bad weather....of course it can be done but a quick spray done more frequently is what I want to be doing.
As said I'm looking for a compromise answer which obviously won't be what the gods-up-on-high at Scottoiler in Glasgow are going to agree with?

General / Centre stands....for better or worse.
« on: 11 August 2015, 01:28:56 pm »
This has been out for a while now but at what point did he loose balance of his bike? The grounds pretty level so no worries there. Maybe not enough leverage pushing his foot down on the stand/with extra help with his hand?
Centre stands are a good thing for all year round bikers right? Or perhaps not in this case? How could it be so easy for that to go so wrong?  :\

As on the old Fazer site which listed all the year on year detail spec changes for the 1998-2003 FZS600 - does anyone know if there is (and where) there's a similar list for the FZS1000 (02-05, Gen1) either on the old Fazer site or this current site?
Cheers

Foxeye FZS600 Mk2 has both headlights on, on dipped beam,...so does FZS1000 Gen1,...so does Suz SV650S,...and possibly there are other bikes that have both (foxeye) headlights on, on dipped beam.
Stacked headlights are a logical design in which it makes sense if manufacturers don't want to utilise both headlight housings for dipped beam whereas foxeye designs with only one light on just look wrong,..as if one light is faulty.....and loads of bikes are designed like this  :(..............Why?

FZS600 Fazer / Stand alone battery charger?
« on: 06 October 2014, 11:16:56 pm »
I need a battery charger which I can leave next to the bike connected to its battery so it can get an occasional boost. I don't have an AC domestic power supply where I keep my bike.
Was thinking on the lines of those booster/jump start units which you charge up at home and then carry it out to the vehicle but in my case the booster pack will need an automatic shut off for when the bike battery becomes fully charged.
Something which also switches over to maintenance/trickle charge once the bike battery has reached full charge, would be perfect.
I did start emailing various suppliers but got a lot of 'we only sell the products and know nothing about what our products actually do' kind of caper.
Sure I've removed the battery from the bike and charged it in doors but this involves interfering with the battery leads too often and is just generally an awkward thing to be doing in winter when I just want to be riding the thing.
What I'm looking for might not actually exist but hopefully some of you knowledgeable people can help?  :)

Can anyone give me some guidelines on methods/materials/tools to use for cleaning rust off/then pre-treating/then painting - parts of the metal frame, metal nuts and bolts & any other metal on the bike including exhaust header bolts? Plus the same kind of question for chipped fairing plastic (but obviously that's a lot easier)?

In short - as long as any exposed spots are completely clean/free of dirt and rust then I assume my new paint emulsion will be durable. Question is - how do I get to that point in which these surfaces are completely clean?
Nut and bolt strip down would be the 'extreme' solution  ;) but am not going down that route  :D.
Cheers

Hi,

I need new headlight lens protectors. The ones I have are not very well moulded so don't fit well and have seen photos of Gen 1's on here with protectors that fit very well. I've actually got a 600 Fox Eye which I believe uses the same protectors but have seen more photo's in this Thou corner with the protectors fitted than the 600 section.
So any leads or links to retailers who sell good quality protectors would be great?
Thanks in advance.  :)

FZS600 Fazer / From FZS600 to VFR800 instead of FZS1000?
« on: 02 June 2014, 08:00:23 pm »
Hi,

FZS1000 looses out on the nimbleness of FZS600 so how about a VFR800 (pre vetec) as a more logical step up from the trusty 600? Even though I like the 600 it can feel too light weight for example in blustery weather on faster roads.

Opinions from people who've owned all three bikes would be welcome?

Thanks in advance.  :)

Hi,
Read recently on here that hard suspension when riding at low speeds is characteristic of our Mk1 & 2's. So having read that - I'm now able to confirm that my bike also has this characteristic  :( .
Back & front suspension refresh/improvement is due on my bike in the near future so - does anyone know of any tried and tested upgrades/mods which would make low speed riding over uneven surfaces more comfortable and controllable?

FZS600 Fazer / Renthal handlebars
« on: 25 September 2013, 08:52:19 pm »
Hi,
I might need to replace my OEM handlebars therefore it could be a good opportunity to improve on the standard fitment bars. So can anyone tell me the basics about Renthal bars? For example do they clear the tank & front fairing as the standard ones do? And what bar ends would I use as I need some weight to balance the luggage options I sometimes use?
.....and its a Mk2 Foxeye

General / How do people clean helmet interior liners?
« on: 22 July 2013, 11:38:10 pm »
I've got a Shoei full face helmet but only the cheek pads are removable, not the bit that goes over top of my head. To complicate things I've got Autocom headset installed which is really fiddly to remove & put back. So basically  am looking for just a convenient method to clean the inside until I go the whole hog which is to use a shower head and some fabric cleaner. I'm sure I'll be corrected if this is a bad idea :D .
Advice & other peoples experiences all appreciated.
Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / How many Watts availible for accessories?
« on: 08 May 2013, 12:06:22 pm »
 Hi,

I’m trying to work out how much extra power in Watts I have available for electrical accessories on my Mk2 02-03 FZS600 running dipped headlights.
I got these figures from the owners manual that standard output is 14V,21A @ 5,000r/min and the standard battery is 12V, 10Ah.
I wouldn’t know how to total up the various things that use power during normal riding and don’t know the maths to get to my answer of how much Wattage I will have to spare.
Are there any takers out there for this question?  :)

Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / oil sight glass almost impossible to gauge
« on: 02 January 2013, 12:48:34 am »
Hi people,
Have done a search but no joy. Here's my question - red oil light comes on soon after pulling away and stays on for about one mile. Oil has been changed at least 500 miles ago therefore its a light gingery colour in addition to the milky colour which having read on this site seems to be caused by condensation. So trying to see the oil level in the sight window is proving very difficult. If I knew for sure that the level was low then I could top it up which should stop the red oil light illuminating but i don't want to risk overfilling with oil. As my memory pans back to a mechanic who overfilled with oil a deisel mini bus I used to drive causing literally a black smoke screen behind me after i pulled away from every set of traffic lights. Agreed that my FZS is not Transit deisel but i just don't want to overfill my bike with oil.  :( . Any suggestions?

FZS600 Fazer / V-Strom handgaurds for 02-03 Mk2FZS600
« on: 16 December 2012, 09:59:53 pm »
Hi,
Been looking at posts on the old Yaku forums on Handgaurds/Brushgaurds and reckon that V-Strom gaurds will be the simplest to fit and easiest to source from retailers.
So, has anyone fitted these to a Mk2 FZS and if yes then do they foul the fairing on full lock?
Thanks

FZS600 Fazer / 02-03 Mk2FZS600 headlight bulb
« on: 16 December 2012, 09:50:17 pm »
Hi,
Been advised to stick with a standard bulb, however, has anyone used a Philips X-treme Vision(+100%) for any period of time without suffering any discolouring or melting of the headlight lense unit (within the fairing housing) and without suffering any melting of electrical wiring/connectors or any other adverse affects?
Thanks

Introduction / Back again
« on: 03 November 2012, 10:34:38 pm »
Hi all,
Just bought a Fazer. The last one I had was in 2009 and I was registered on FOC-U back then. I'm from North London. Lots of driving experience but those days of wasting time sitting in queues of traffic are history for me hence my plan to use the bike as much as possible. Rebuilding my bike experience as I have actually owned a number of bikes in previous years.
Have hardly looked at this site recently so given time I'll fall into line with your house rules.
Cheers
