Having had the good fortune to meet  the lovely and actually quite demure Heather and to sell her my bike I can confirm to all of you gentlemen  that the photos hardly do her justice. Enjoy your bike James, you are indeed a lucky blighter in more than one sense !
PS I miss the bike a bit, which is probably why Im still lurking around on this forum ..

Is there a green one? if so get that. I had a green bicycle once and it was jolly good fun.

What constitutes doing the job right then? I replaced my chain and sprockets  a couple of years back, new tab washer fastened over nice and tight, a dab of locktite and torqued to the right spec [ just not in that order !] . So far no trouble and nor do I expect any,  but just in case, did I miss something ? if theres something else that  needs to be done a bit of advice  would probaly help a lot of owners out.

Is the point of this to quantify the number of defects and then send the results to Yamaha UK so that in future any claims get viewed faourably?

Why Mr Darrssi, our best intelligence from the village would have it that you are, sir, guilty of a simple omission, the sight glass would most surely  need to be cleaned most dlligently from the outside as well as from the inside to be properly efficatous.

« on: 31 January 2013, 05:30:20 pm »
I would think that its just a spigot for the filter to screw on to, it should ha-ha just undo, you know, just like the exhaust nuts do. The safest bet is to get a parts diagram if Haynes doesnt cover it but I doubt its anything other than a male/male reducer bolted in at the factory probably after the engine is in the frame, the fact that its got a hex on it makes it look like it comes out, but then your entire bike has a hex on it at the moment !
I hope it works out for you, youve more patience than I have in this weather.

« on: 23 January 2013, 10:21:11 am »
Once youve cracked the sump plug open a turn or two put something under the drain hole for when you get the plug out to drain the old oil into the drain pan, just a cut up old coke bottle will do or anything to hand, otherwise the old oil comes out of the side , hits the frame and then goes wherever it wants to before dripping onto your garage floor. Mind your fingers, the old oil is hot !. Oh and dont overtighten the sump plug. Good luck with it, its a simple enough job but i always get a feeling of satisfaction from doing an oil change, maybe I need to get out more.

Bloody hell !

Lawrence, if you live anywhere near lincoln Ive got about a gallon of lube oil as used on powder coating conveyor track chains. Its too light to paint on a chain without flinging off over your back tyre but I think it is light enough to be applied by a scottoiler in its small amounts.

Just ignore it, its got an engine, they vibrate. If it helps then borrow a single from someone, that should put things into perspective !

Lewis, Im a huge admirer of your work, Your short pieces have the tension and subtle undercurrent of emotion of an early Bergman with the vibrancy in terms of use of shade and colour reminiscent of David Lynch's later works plus they've got loonies on bikes in them. Bravo meastro !

Great video, nicely done and the man in black works a treat on the second bit. Is it just me or is people coming off bikes and not getting hurt funny? I have to admit that I laughed out loud at the 'then I crashed' bit. Glad youre OK and i hope the Fazer is a step up from the ER5. For a while there I thought that you were riding a Blandit.

That leak isnt pink, Id say it was a light charteuse if anything. Are you actually losing coolant looking at the impossible to look at properly expansion tank ?

I think that you can get rose joints in both RH and LH thread if that helps. I got one of each for my other bike as the Triumph linkage was shot.

The small pipe at the front right hand lower corner of the radiator is prone to splitting, [ right hand as sat on the bike]. Mine went and when I got one from the dealer he told me that theyd sold a few of them, I hope its that as its an easy fix. The white smoke is hopefully just condensation.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Woking - self 24000mile service - wanna help me?
« on: 14 October 2012, 05:26:12 pm »
My understanding is that the valve shims rarely need doing at 24 k, probably people with higher mileage bikes than my own can confirm.  Id get a set of vacuum guages for carb balancing, there used to be a posting on here with a video which is very good, change engine oil and filter, plugs, air filter and if Yamaha insist , fuel filter. Check the brake pad thickness and clean the caliper pistons and pins [ dont take the pistons out !]. Greasing the rear suspension linkage is a doddle compared to my Triumph so thats an easy one. Id do the job over two or three weekends, keep the reciepts for the parts if youre worried about the service history Vs bike value. Swap out the coolant, very easy, adjust and lube the chain DONT spray oil on it , check the tyre pressures then thats it, jobs a good 'un unless anyone can think of anything else. Keep refering to the Haynes, the best tool that youll buy and post on here with any questions.
Dont take it back to that rob dog dealer but it might be worth giving trading standards a ring about them given that they have sold you a bike under false pretences.
