Puncture 3/8 drill bit straight through centre of tread hit inside of wheel then bent over. Blimey are you ok? how fast were you going etc?
Very lucky just came from a 60 down to a 30 then bang.

The hole was 10 to 15 mm ,tyre fitter says 3mm max for a plug.

A mate got a 6mm bolt in his rear tyre and the head was hitting his hugger so he got a twig the right size pulled the bolt out and stuck the twig in and rode the few miles home.

The best I ever heard of was a broken spark plug, yep a whole spark plug embedded into the tyre!

This is my best effort so far - an M8x50mm bolt straight into the back tyre. Picked it up on the way to work a while ago - had to take the pic and email it to my boss to show him I really did have a puncture and wasn't still in bed!

I had a 6 inch nail go through the tread ond out through the side wall on the back.
Foc knows how long it was there before I noticed it, I used to have a relaxed approach to checking the bike in those days

I had a blow out at 90mph on a dual carriageway a few years back, it was just a few days after getting a previous puncture fixed. By the time I limped off at the exit which lucky for me was just a few hundred yards away and found somewhere safe to stop the tyre was mince. It's a bummer.
Whenever I've had a puncture I just call the RAC. Once carted home, and two temp fixes.

British Standards for puncture repairs
[size=78%]A British standard exists for motorcycle tyre repairs (BSAU159f), which determines the strength of the repair and where it can and can’t be made in the [/size]
Being a British Standard, it is a recommendation only, and not the law.
BSAU159f states that no repairs are allowed in the sidewalls (these flex continuously and a repair is likely to fail), and the standard says repairs are not allowed on high speed Z-rated tyres.
It says a tyre must be inspected by an expert for secondary damage (a nail which punctures the tread might also damage the sidewall inside), run-flat damage (determined by a darkened or marbled appearance inside the sidewall), exposed cords and so on.
Michelin, however, is the only manufacturer that recommends that its Z rated tyres can be repaired in accordance with the previous BSAU159e.
Repairs can only be made in the centre of the tread area, to within 25% of each side of the centre line.
Only two repairs per tyre are allowed up to the J (62mph) speed rating, and one up to the V (over 130mph with 155mph maximum) speed rating. Up to the J rating, repairs no bigger than 6mm are allowed, and up to the V rating only up to 3mm is allowed.
All repairs must be carried out with a mushroom-type plug, which fits into the puncture hole from the inside and bonds with the tyre by vulcanisation.
Anything else and the BS says the tyre must be chucked. If your tyre repairer says the same and quotes similar reasons, he’s being honest.

Easily done over 40 repairs with crafty pluggers and they last the life of the tyre.
I wouldn't use a repaired tyre on a track day as I'll push everything to the limit, but on road I'm not exceeding 85mph.
The only repair I didn't make was when the screw went in right on the edge of the tyre at the join of the sidewall and in the sipe, not on the meat, tyre was only a week old too! :\
Had the bike inspecting on the side of the road by police and they've seen and felt the repair and not had a problem with it!
I frequently buy 2nd hand repaired rears, not a problem!

Every bike shop I've ever worked in has had a pretty even consensus that even on z rated tyres mushroom plugs are o.k., up to 2 in any one tyre, all other things considered. I'm betting that, even though most people who work in bike workshops have just learnt their trade over time without any "official" qualifications, the tyre manufacturers would include them as experts! Whilst some are more knowledgable than others, I've worked with enough very experienced people to trust the two-plug-per-tyre line.

Yeah... Its a load of crap... I always carry a crafty plugger kit (apart from the lofo ride when i got a puncture as i'd run out) i've never had any problems and the thing with this kit is the shaft that pops in the plug is quite thin as is the plug itself. U dont want to be making the hole any bigger. For screws nails rivets etc its a sound fix if u get it right and that takes a bit of practice but not to difficult to stick another one in.
The rac and aa use a standard bmw kit which involves sticking in a fukin great rasp to widen and smooth the hole( wot 4 ?) then they squirt some shit blue messy rubber compound into it and shove a "wedge" in. No wonder its only rated up to 40mph. The reason crafty pluggers last the life of the tyre is A-dont make the hole any bigger B-the compound on the plug warms and cools with the tyre C-it uses tyre pressure to form the seal.
Simple and brilliant idea

If it's a rear tyre, I would reapir - not throw away. For the front... well, depends.
Anyway, shops should be able to fix it with a "mushroom" from the inside. I'm sure they will fix punctures over 3mm, perhaps even your 10mm one. That way your tyre will be safe.
These situations are why I prefer Pirelis and Metzelers (Bridgestone too) to Michelin: proper steel belts, not just impregnated canvas that is ripped apart easily.

Had no problems having plugs done on Michelin PR2s. 10mm is way too big a hole to have repaired cos you're talking about tyre structure being weakened at that size.

As I'm sure I've mentioned once or twice before ;) I prefer Puncturesafe which plugs the hole *before* the tyre starts deflating, so you don't wreck the sidewalls or have to fix it and then pump it back up again.
Fortunately I've not yet needed it, but it's always good to know it's in there (and, no, before anyone says, it's not the nasty stuff that tyre repairers hate, given that I got it installed by Russ's Tyres in Horndean :) )

CO2, definitely. Then add up with a bicylce tyre - it takes more time and effort, but it is small to carry.

There's more than enough space under the seat for a halfords £15, mini compressor, kust need a cigarette lighter socket attached to the battery if you don't already have one!

Real men use bicycle pumps... and that is only because blowing with mouth directly can get your lips dirty and ladies don't like that!
