Had the same issue. It was broken locating pin. I drilled small pilot hole in the stub that was left over, put a small nail in it and superglued small strip of plastic around it. Not moved since.

Hi,
So my search on the question did not provide me with an answer. I know that Gen1 Fazer radiator fan doesn't come on very often, not while idling on driveway anyway. But how do I check if everything is fine? Warm weather in and I'm a bit worried it may overheat if fan doesn't come on when needed. I don't think I've ever seen it come on.
I do know fan is OK as I plugged it to battery and it works. Is there a way to check if temp sensor turns it on when needed?

I had the same issue couple weeks ago on my FZS600. Snapped only one though. Snapped flush with the head, I tried drilling but there is limited access and by drill bit wend a bit sideways. Luckily I've not caused too much damage
Since it was in the middle of the head I just decided to bolt everything together with new gaskets to see if it'd seal. I had to jam a nut between one bracket and the pipe so it doesn't rattle. It sealed fine.
It is a botch job but it works.
I can't see your photo but, depending where they broke, if all else fails and you don't want paying loads of money to have them drilled out maybe it's worth a try?

Thread kinda drifted sideways but lots of good info on chain lubrication.
Since my rear sprocket is in really good nick I have only bought front one and the chain. Will see how it sits and decide later.
I got pretty good at taking things apart over last couple months so no problem to take the wheel off if need be.
Since I use i for commuting and ride in all weathers I was thinking about getting Scottoiler, but I've spent too much money on it lately, maybe after next payday.

Hi,
Need advice on the subject. I think the chain on my Fazer is an original one as it got DID 50VN7 stamped on the link. Bike has done 17k miles.I'm pretty sure chain needs changning. It's lost some o-rings and mesures more than 152mm between 10 links (manual says max is 150mm).Front sprocket has plastic/rubber bits missing all over but the teeth are OK, that probably needs changing as well.Rear looks fine, no excessive wear to teeth.
Quesion is, will new 530 chain fit properly on original sprocket? Is this 50NV7 different size or is it just called different due to age? I can't seem to find any info on it.

If I have to do it again I will cut the nuts off the studs. Should have done that this time.

I've diecided to try the easy way first.Bolted everything together with 7 studs only. Had to jam a 8mm nut between pipe and bracket where there was only one stud to stop the bracket moving around.

It worked. No smoke coming out form between head and the pipe. I'll have to check properly when I go to work next time, but I think it's fine.
I didn't know this thing could be so quiet. I had 6cm long hole in the 4 to 1 collector thingie under he engine. That has now been welded and it's so quiet you can talk next to it without shouting :).

Hi.
I had to remove my ehaust due to holes in the collector under the engine. I've been soaking the studs in plusgas for 2 weeks while still riding to work every day. Managed to get 7 nuts off without any issues. Not so lucky with the last one. Snapped with stud sticking out from the head, so I bought a set of stud extractors. They look like sockets and grab the stud when you turn.
Snapped flush with the head now.
Tried drilling - drill slipped and went sideways. just caught the head. No major damage but I can't start drilling straight now with engine in he frame.
So last option is to try and weld a nut to it and try screwing it out. I'll have to ask my neighbour who has a welder but with this social distancing it's a bit awkward.
Last question is:It's 4th stud from the left, right in the centre of the head. What will happen if I just bolt the exhaust without it? I have new copper gaskets so will it squash them and seal with one nut missing? I really don't fancy removing the head to get this done.

From my first hand experience:I bought 1999 Fazer last November. 16k miles on the clock and great condition, no dents or scratches anywhere. According to MOT history it's done 2k miles in last 4 years.I knew right away I'll have to replace downpipes by next MOT (leaking exhaust advisory), 160-180 quid if you can do it yourself.
Suspected I'll need new tyres, turned out correct - 180 for a pair of Michelin Pilot Power CT 2 (Roads were too expensive :) ).
Chain looks OK but lost fair bit of O-rings - replacement is around 100 quid if doing yourself.Brake lines have no bulges or leaks but I want to replace them anyway - another 100 for set if doing yourself.

I accepted that when buying 20 years old bike that hasn't done many miles in last few years I will have to spend at least 500 quid for consumables. But I intend to keep it for a few years and I'm using it daily for commute, so I'm willing to do it all.
My take on it is: Buy cheap and spend extra doing stuff yourself or pay more hoping it's been done already - works out the same in price so I'll do it myself and spread the cost over few months as well.



Heated grips - I've spent 3 hours on mine because I got distracted with fitting USB charger, checking air filter, checking oil, coolant and generally rummaging around under the tank (it was off for wiring grips so why not :). Doing just grips would be under 1 hour I think.
