This morning while in neutral I flashed my headlights using the finger lever and noticed the temp and oil led momentarily illuminated. Is this normal?

Nope, you have a short somewhere in the loom. That said I have seen weirdness like this when the battery is bassicaly so farked that when you load the system with something like a headlight builb its enough to lower the voltage to the point weird shit like your seeing happens.

Leaning towards worn battery and/or faulty charging then fella. What voltages are you measuring at the battery terminals on idle?
