General / Balance weights
« on: 16 October 2014, 09:56:34 pm »
Checking tyre pressures today I found the weights have fallen off the rear wheel. i've not noticed any effect on handling during my commute. Is it worth taking wheel in to be rebalanced?

General / Dazza, Einstein and the Spice Girls
« on: 26 September 2014, 08:54:48 pm »
I was round Dazza's house today. As I was leaving I scrumpied a pear. Well a pair of pears to be honest. Was meant to be one pear but then one fell off the tree and so 2 pears became 1 pair.
Bet that's how the Spice Girls song came to pass  :)

General / Show me your worn tyre
« on: 19 September 2014, 12:25:15 am »
Since my last Tyre did over 10k miles and there seems to be a lot who talk of only getting 5 or 6k out of theirs I'd be interested to seeing a pictures showing the tread on the day tyres get changed

General / Is it me
« on: 17 September 2014, 10:10:45 pm »
Is it me or does this bike look odd, to the point of being ugly.
May be it's just the paint job there just seems something wrong about it

I just did the meerkat twice to compare the differences to adding my datatool devil 1000 lock and was pleasantly surprised to see a reduction between £3-10.

General / dust seal
« on: 31 July 2014, 10:31:13 pm »
Having fitted a new dust seal in rear caliper I couldn't get the piston back in.
It's as if the seal is too thick as the piston just wanted to push the seal out of it's seating.
I've ended up putting the original back in :(
Has anyone else ever had this problem.

General / Air compressor and home decorating
« on: 21 July 2014, 10:04:38 pm »
Has anyone ever used and air compressor with the paint sprayer to emulsion the walls? I seem to remember the Kirby vacuum cleaner having an attachment to do the same thing so must be feasible

General / rear spring
« on: 04 July 2014, 04:54:18 pm »
Can anyone explain why the 600 comes with a rear spring rated at 839 pounds/inch and the thou only has a 420.26 lb/inch rating, yet both bikes state similar maximum load figures?

General / Any boat owners
« on: 28 June 2014, 03:54:21 pm »
Total waste of time but hey here goes :)
Anyone happen to own a boat on the thames  who'd be happy to hire to me for a long weekend.
Within 2 days of Abingdon to arrive the 19th July. Seems accommodation availability is scarce :)

General / scottoiler
« on: 26 June 2014, 11:00:53 pm »
Got to the biker this evening after work left it on centrestand and there were drips of scott oil on the path. looks to be coming from the touring reservoir.  Can only think it's heat related with the weather.
Has anyone else had this happen?

General / rear wheel bearings
« on: 26 June 2014, 04:34:39 pm »
Any experiences regarding aftermarket wheel bearings. Looking on eBay they can be got for less than £10 the pair, yet a lad a work has been told by the yam dealer one of them costs aroujnd £60.

General / 33bhp restriction extensions
« on: 14 June 2014, 11:40:22 pm »
One of our most favoured members has just announced on fb the end of his 33bhp restriction.
My instant thought was, what point is the restriction if the restricted rider spends most of the period without a bike or making insurance claims for crashing without penalty.
Surely there should be a monitoring system (black box) and the ability to impose probationary extensions..

FZS600 Fazer / thou rear caliper on 600
« on: 12 June 2014, 03:37:35 pm »
Does putting a thou caliper on the back of 600 mean you can do sideway skids down the road.
I'm a heavy chap (though some may disagree  ;) ) and i really need to push hard on the pedal for the back end to lock up, so the brake does seem feeble but nevertheless I still mange to come to an abrupt stop when needed.

Surely though this is how Yamaha intended it to be.

It's always been my understanding that most of the braking to stop the bike comes from the front and the rear brake really is only to maintain balance (if that's the right description)
So by fitting a much sharper rear caliper raises the risks of rear wheel lock up and means the rider has to consciously apply less pressure on the rear brake thus cancelling the point of the swap.

Events, Meets, Ride outs etc / Scotlandshire Southern style
« on: 11 June 2014, 12:25:29 am »
Ya have to hand it to the wee Scot foccers. They're a social bunch with their weekday fish n chippie Gatherings.
I can almost liken it to a religious occasion on a hill with thoughts of involuntary projectile sharing of fish and in this case potato (though if chip butties were ordered some bread too)

Anyway enough of that and not meaning to offend  :evil

My point is I really do think the weekday/evening gathering after work for a bite to eat and a catch up could work down south or around London. It doesn't have to be expensive  and as it doesnt involve a rideout as such those without bikes won't feel excluded, Christo  ;)   :kiss

To make it Southern style I would propose finding a pie and mash shop.....

How say Y'ALL  :rolleyes

« on: 06 June 2014, 01:20:13 am »
Anyone feel up for having a ride out to Ypres. Early ferry out and late ferry back.
I am reliably informed it can be done quite easily in a car so biking it should be a sinch ;)

General / Tyre change/wheel alignment

Has anyone noticed whether the tyre fitter checks the wheel alignment and make adjustments accordingly or if he just puts wheel back leaving the settings as they came in?

General / Hotgrip malfunction
« on: 17 May 2014, 01:55:04 pm »
switched the hotgrips on this morning to find the throttle grip not heating up at all.  Have others had the same happen or is it a one off so to speak. I can't imagine there is a fix other than renewal but if there is, what is it?
