stick coils
« on: 26 April 2012, 09:47:12 pm »
following an article in Practical Sportsbike magazine i have bought some stick coils and have made up an harness, just got to fit them now,it is an easy mod and will get rid of the ht leads, and as mine have 70k miles on them i doubt they are as good as when the bike was new,so has anyone else done this mod? or is anyone considering it?

i have bought a set of coils from a kawasaki zx10r which fit in the fazers spark plug nicely, you will need the wring harness which goes with the coils, some sellers on ebay do sell them with the coils, you basicaly wire 2 together in pairs ,so 1 and 4,2 and 3.the power wires only need one cable, the one on the bike is split because of the 2 coils.the other wire goes to the ignition control unit so make sure 1 and 4 goes to the right connector and the same for 2 and 3.the coils are supposed to give better starting, there may be other benefits as there will no longer be any ht leads to worry about, and as ht leads only have a limited life span it is a worth while mod,i hope to have mine fitted tomorrow

very interesting, but have you matched the resistance of the new coils to the old ones.
too much resistance and we'll be having a 'does anyone have a spare pick up coil/ecu' thread sometime soon.
