24k valve check.
« on: 28 June 2015, 07:14:35 pm »
Took the top off my gen 1for the first time to check valve clearances this weekend. All OK thank goodness. Some only just....but OK.
Only thing to note on the job is be careful all the detritus that lurks down the water coolant pipes holes doesn't fall into the engine when you lift the cam box up. I nearly had a long lost waher go down in my engine. Poor design Yamaha..
While apart I sprayed the cam box lid and removed and painted the corroded metal coolant stubs. A job well done I think.

Nice work, Galahad. Did you have much trouble taking the cam box cover off? Apart from the looks screws that is. The coolant spigot took a hell of a lot of persuasion last time and it's been some time since I looked it.

Hi Aj, it came off easily. Undo screws and a tap with a rubber hammer and it was off.
Coolant pipes were tight but nothing a bit of pulling and leavering didn't solve.  AIS system was already off which made things easier.
