If you mean little plastic mushroom things then yes, they limit the power to just over 100 bhp, the French being the only EU country who took up the 100 bhp limit for bikes. So if you buy a new 1600 BMW for ex it will have only 100 or so bhp, rather than go for a power to weight ratio limit, daft sods!! I think this is to be repealed in a couple of years though.
I think this is the only restriction to power, you might like to check the lights and the speedo too though

Hi Shack,
I had thought of doing this too, where did you get the pegs from and were they difficult to fit??

+1 for the valve being useful, when mine stuck open the bike felt hesitant at low rpm once I had fixed it the bike pulled so much better and fortunately has done from that to this :)

I don't have a problem with gen2 owners and their bikes but I still point at planes, mainly because when they scream down the valley fully banked over or go on to break the sound barrier it IS cool and who wouldn't want to be up there doing that. Many fighter pilots prefer bikes to cars so at least I have something in common with the lucky sods  :b
and that's without mentioning Lancasters and Spitfires/Hurricanes, time to shut up now.....(me that is)

I had a similar experience turned out to be dodgy connection to the spark plugs you could try taking the caps of cleaning them up and trying again, others recommend trimming off a bit of each lead too.

+1 for using a relay that gets switched from an ign source such as the horn or rear light
basically the coil end of the relay goes to the ign source and the switch end of the relay goes to the battery via your grips (you should only have 4 connections on the relay)
sorry no pics as I have no design software on here, alas :(

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Front forks - Rebuild
« on: 14 April 2013, 08:49:49 pm »
I have done this job on the CB500 forks but never on the fazer, I found that the CB500 forks were quite easy to strip clean and rebuild so would not have thought the fazer ones were much different but they do have adjusters so may be more complicated. I am sure someone who has done this job will be along soon to give you more helpful advice :)

Mine is an 04 too and it does need a little throttle when cold, and like steve I also have use of a CB500 that starts with no extra juice too. I don't think a touch of throttle is too much to ask for a bike that delivers so much else :)

50 mpg is easily attainable on a gen 1 1000, which given the performance available is pretty bloody good if you ask me and it is even if you dont (ask me that is!!) so 200 a tank is poss, but take it from one who knows don't leave it too late in France as esp on Sundays you may not find a petrol station open and those on autoroutes are now stocking  E10 95 petrol so you will be forced to use 98. If you can find a LeClerc they tend to still have normal 95 unleaded as do Geants  these 2 can be found near autoroutes but never on them. If you know roughly where you are going to go you can plan your route, also be aware sometimes UK cards will not work bu tthis is rare so always have some cash, though forget that on a Sunday!!

AIS air induction system or is it air injection system anyway its a way to avoid emmsions problems in certain countries, it nmakes little if no difference to performance and can be remnoved with a suitable kit, like the one Justy used to supply, it makes servicing easier if it is removed

+1 for using the yamaha tool for this job, then its not a problem even with the AIS still in place.

I regularly get 50 mpg from mine, and it is stock and has way enough 'go' for me. I did take out the new semi water cooled GS yesterday and that has less vibes than the air cooled one and boy did it pull in top 60 to the ton in no time but having an instant mpg read out was sort of distracting, how high you could get it at a steady 70 and how low can you get it go etc. Still a very nice though expensive bike.

I have sat on an RT at the london show and everything just felt right, in the right place, no need to lean forward or backward etc. Does it vibrate much, I tried a 1200GS and the vibes were quite intrusive, are they dampened on the RT and is it fun in the twisties or 'just' a tourer?
Sorry for hijacking the thread and nopt even posting a pic of my fazer  :o

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Pilot Roads
« on: 26 March 2013, 06:32:50 pm »
Cheers for the replies guys, I suspect it was a combination of things; me being a bit too heavy with the front brake transferring too much weight forward leaving the back brake to overwhelm the rear tyre, it is not that worn but it is a few years old esp if it was not 'brand new' when it was fitted (in Oct 2010) I was just a bit surprised because the roads were warm and I had already ridden for 30 miles so assumed things were all warmed up. I guess that some more modern rubber may be needed, I just like to get at least the middle tread worn away before getting shot of a tyre but then I dont have an income at the mo so.....best laid plans of mice etc!!
