Recently changed the undertray and rear light bulbs (GEN 1) ...all went well ..took my time etc battery was off charge for about 3 days .
Anyway all done everything is back as should be ....BUT ..when I tried to start the bike its trying and trying but wont start
UNLESS
I pull the clutch in ..it starts and runs ok then ....let it out and it cuts out WTF !!
If I put it in gear it instantly cuts out
Now not unless im missing something changing 2 bulbs isn't going to kill my motor .
anyone help as I my MOT is due next week lol
mucho grassy arse in advance

Sounds like the side stand sensor switch is playing up, not sure how your mods could have affected that but that is what I would check, maybe you disconnected it by accident???
Tommo

Good call ill go look ..cheers Tommo
-
sadly nope ..that's not it
cheers anyway

Check the neutral switch wiring, Paul. Sensor's on the back of the crankcase, behind the swingarm. Trace the single wire and see what you find.
Also, did you jump-wire the sidestand cut-out switch or just visually confirm that the wires are connected.
Since you changed the undertray, I'd also look very carefully at all the wiring connectors that you may have disturbed. In particular, the ignition cut-out relay which takes inputs from sidestand switch, neutral switch and clutch switch.
-
you need to get it dirty
-
update ...
@ Mike ... not sure what you meant by Jump-wire but I removed the switch and cleaned it etc all was ok there .
went over all the connectors, opened them up a cleaned them as best as I could also checked for
weak/damaged wiring ..nothing found .
So from what ive found/seen all the connectors are clean and break free , ive even dropped the undertray to
check I didn't pinch any wires inside.
I have even replaces ALL the fuses for new .
what I have noticed today though is when I turn ignition on there is no clicking from the Ignitor unit ..so now im guessing its something to do with that ...although it still fires up as my original post so I dunno .
Im stumped :'(
-
Connect the two sidestand switch wires together'jump'. This will eliminate the sidestand switch. Try that then see if the bike will start. If it doesn't you will need to check neutral switch wiring and ignition cut out relay as mike has stated.
-
can't you just ride with the clutch in?
-
No as soon as i put it in gear it cuts out :(
-
then bypass the clutch switch
-
Sticking neutral switch or a problem with the ignition cut-out relay/wiring, Paul. That, or the clutch switch but that seems to do as it supposed to so I don't think that's the issue.
The clicking you hear normally isn't from the ignitor (ECU) it's the fuel pump, so don't sweat that. The float bowls are full so the pump won't operate to fill them now.
-
ok
had the side stand switch apart ... had a meter reading from that....that seems ok.
still cutting out when releasing of clutch ....removed clutch switch opened it up cleaned that ..looks new.
bypassed the side stand switch as Mike said that makes no difference ...
but I bypassed the switch as Luke said ..works it fine ..sooo im guessing there lies the problem (hopefully ?)
what is the clutch switch for ? ...is it needed ? ..can it be just bypassed as luke says ?

Its to stop you forgetting and pulling away with the side stand down.
-
I reckon it's the relay box that sits behind the side panel....
We had one doing just this and also blowing neutral lights. A minor short caused the problem to start with.
It was a bastard to fix and we had to work up basically a custom loom to get everything to work after we had fitted and blown another two relay boxes.
Sorry.

OK
Wasn't the clutch switch ...
wasn't the side stand switch ...
wasn't the neutral switch ...
it was the cutoff relay unit ... nothing wrong with it, fully connected but I had
put it on facing outwards instead of inwards like the pic below, this must have caused
a loose connection...turned it over and it works fine now ...simple as that.
nearly a full week of stripping down, cleaning connections, taking undertray off again,
removal of side stand and switch etc ...a real pain in the ass .
happy though it wasn't something serious but jeezus . :rolleyes
big thanks for all your suggestions
cheers guys :D
