Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Not sure if my carbs have been jetted
« on: 27 January 2024, 08:58:32 pm »
I bought my '03 from the 2nd owner. He actually bought it from a shop. The first unknown owner installed a Yosh slip on. I've put almost 20,000 miles on the bike and it has always run perfect. Fires up instantly, idles perfect, butter smooth all the way up to redline. No popping or anything. Probably the best running bike I've ever owned.

Does it sound like it was jetted for the pipe? I ask because I'm going to call and see if Dale at Holeshot still has a set of headers for it and I'm not sure if I'm going to have to address the carbs. I know he runs a stage one jet kit with slip ons and full exhausts so if mine is already jetted I should be good to go. And yes it has the stock airbox.

What do yall think?

I bought these wheels earlier in the year and mounted them over the summer but I've been down for the count with multiple kidney stones. After living in hell they have finally passed haha.

The rear is 6 inches wide and I'm running a 190/55 like a liter bike should have. It did raise the rear and combined with my already raised forks by 12mm the bike tips in lightning fast. I was worried it might be too twitchy and I'd have to set the forks back to flush but it's even better now. I would probably get a fender eliminator but I would need a tire hugger and from what I understand the ones for a 1st gen won't fit a 190. I'm getting a Traxxion AK20 fork cartridge kit after the holidays and then want to try and find some aftermarket rearsets. I do have some braided brake lines I haven't gotten around to installing yet. Then the mods should be about done. God this bike feels so good and I'll never sell it.

I bought them at motowheels on clearance for $2000 and they must have decided they sold them too cheap because right after they raised the price of the front from $700 to $1425. It's actually more expensive than the rear for some reason now. Maybe because it's actually for an R1. As you can see I'm not a great picture taker.

General / Expensive vs cheaper brake rotors
« on: 17 March 2023, 08:26:24 am »
I'm going to be buying new brake rotors. I ride twisty roads at a good pace and do 1-2 track days a year. Nothing too serious.

I'm wondering what spending more money would get me, if anything. I'm looking at the two in the links below. The first is a no-name ebay brand $426 for all three rotors and new pads. The second is a single front Braking brand rotor for $388.

Just wondering if there is any real difference. Even if someone is actually racing, what would the difference be? They're all floating rotors.

EDIT

The ebay links wouldn't show but the no-name brand is at the 'Extreme Shop" ebay store. Both rotors look similar, they're wave rotors with black centers. So you get the picture.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / 4 degree timing advance need higher octane fuel?
« on: 08 February 2023, 08:14:13 am »
I recently got an ELS 4 degree timing advancer. It's awesome, I should have ordered one the day I bought the bike. But I'm wondering if I should run higher octane fuel. Where I live we have 87, 89 and 93. The factory recommends 87 but I always run 89. Should I be using 93 with the timing advanced or will it be fine? I've ran a couple of tanks already and it seems fine, I don't hear any knocking but I do wear earplugs.

Santa Claus dropped off a late present today. I'm not a great photographer but they're anodized, not painted and look very nice.

Demon Tweeks and Sportsbikeshop both sell Giles rearseets for the FZS1000

Woah, thanks. I'm good then.

I was just about to ask something else. I looked at the Vortex's again and they were listed as fitting a '01-'10 FZ1 and the '11-'13 FZ8. Wasn't sure if they listed the 1st gens by mistake.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Vortex rearsets 1st gen adjustability
« on: 01 January 2023, 10:14:05 am »
At some point this year I think I'm going to buy some Vortex V2's. I've never had Vortex before, only Gilles works of art and it's the only name brand I can find that still has them for the 1st gens. What's I'm wondering is how low they can go. The factory footpeg position is perfect for my bad knee on street rides, I just want to raise them for trackdays. Does anyone know how low/forward they can be adjusted? I searched all over and everyone just asks how high they can go. Thanks.

Introduction / Happy new year
« on: 01 January 2023, 09:30:49 am »
Hey guys! Glad to see there's a forum for these bikes that's active. I'm from Texas but live in North Carolina in the Uwharrie National Forest area with great roads. Looks like most of you are in Europe and I wish I lived there instead. If I didn't have any family I would have moved there. I'm retired military and have been all over.

Bought my bike in 2020 but didn't really starts the mods until this past year. The first owner did the yellow wheels/bellypan and blacked out stuff. I don't really like it but it does look factory. I got it for only $3000 with 12K miles so I can't complain. I will get a different bellypan at some point and it'll be black, that's just too much yellow for me.

I recently got a Penske 8975 and I was going to buy AK-20 fork carts this month but holding off because last week I scored a set of black Oz Piega's with a 6 inch rear on clearance. Ordered them two days ago. I think I'll get some race tires mounted on the stock rims for the track. I've never ran anything but street tires on the track (I ride at CMP) so that'll be cool. A few weeks ago I got an ELS 4 degree timing advancer. I should have bought that the day I got the bike, it's great.

These are going to be pretty nice and I have some Core brake lines I'll install at the same time.
