I bought genuine Yamaha ones that are meant for the MT range. They were pricey but absolutely brilliant and still fit the design on the bike so look fairly standard.
Ah yes, but then wouldnt I need the indicator relay from the MT as well..?
No just a standard LED relay has worked for both different sets (Oxford and Yamaha) I've had on there 👍🏻

If you mean the flasher relay then it is under the pillion seat on the right hand (brake pedal) side.
Afraid I don't know how to help you with the brightness issue
If I had any advice I would just replace them with LED Indicators. I bought genuine Yamaha ones that are meant for the MT range. They were pricey but absolutely brilliant and still fit the design on the bike so look fairly standard

Taxed the Sprint tonight and I'm on holiday for the next week, hopefully get a few miles in running some errands.  :lol :lol

Are we talking about a Sprint 1050 by any chance? If so how are they? Its a bike that keeps popping up on my radar and I've got to admit I quite like the look of them. The triple exhaust is lovely 😍
Just worried the rest of the bike seems a little dated especially technology wise and that being a Triumph that won't be of the best build quality??
Also I can imagine it would feel somewhat slow and cumbersome compared to my FZ1?

Both Merkin and Macaroon seem to of have been doing all they can to discredit the Ox Az. First Merkin said she wouldn't even have it, but just announced that she would. Macaroon said it didn't work for over 65s but now are saying to ONLY give it to over 55s. The EU were moaning that we were not exporting any of the vaccine -- THAT THEY DIDN'T WANT  :rolleyes .  Hungary have said they are frustrated with the slow roll out and have brought into Russian Spudnik and the China  Sinopharm vax.
I heard one EU commentator partly blaming eastern EU countries for the slow procurement because the did not want to buy so much of the more expensive vaccines.
Its like a covid hokey cokey. So glad we are out of all of that crap now. Where have all the Germany finger pointers gone who were spouting "look how good they are handling covid"

Well they may not be vaccinating anyone but the lucky bastards are on holiday in Spain already haha

I see our Covid Deaths were around 17 today... Good job we are all still in hiding then 🙄 I know this lockdown was done for the right reasons and we have to maintain course blah blah blah blah
But seriously how much longer are they going to kid themselves that we are in an actual lockdown 🙈
I think we are very much at the point where we are ready to just get on with it and see what happens. As a nation we are fed up 😴

Well they've upped it to £2950 which I suppose is not too bad for a dealer 🤔 they also have a Z1000sx in Red (which is soooo much nicer than green haha) so decisions decisions (+ negotiations with the wife 🙈)

Well someone is lying somewhere 🙄 the NHS keep saying there is going to be a shortage of vaccines from the end of March and as such have apparently been told to stop booking more people for April but both vaccine companies have denied there is a supply issue, its been co formed that its nothing to do with the EU spat.... so why is there going to be an issue?
Either the government is lying and just trying to slow down the vaccination program or the suppliers are outright lying about supply??

  • Versys 1000
  • MT-09 Tracer
  • VFR1200 (with the semi auto gearbox)
  • BMW S1000R
  • Aprilia Tuono (dream bike but no local dealer support 😕)
  • There is also a stunning MV Augusta Brutale 800rr
But anyway back to the title.... do you think £3500 is a fair price for mine if sold privately?
  • Very nice bike (I test rode one), but this uses the same engine as the SX so to avoid gearbox issue, go for 2017 or newer. The screen is awesome, I was able to ride with the visor up the whole time. Also you will need legs longer than 31" (me) as its a stupid tall bike.
  • Also a nice bike, and like the Versys it has a center stand. Suspension would need tweaking as I had it run wide in corners (but I had only ridden it for 1hr)
  • I considered this also, but the maintenance costs for it and ridiculous and it has a short tank range.
  • no idea on this one, or the Tuono or the Brutale - they ALL look stupid expensive (10k+)
lastly the price, 3.5 all day long, but I would suggest £4k atm due to the increased prices and all that bling. I say this because I paid £3650 for a 2007 with 35k that has some accessories on it back in Dec 2020.

Thanks for the input 👍🏻

Most I've been offered by a dealer so far is £2850 off a £6500 Z1000sx. If they would budge to £3.5k I'd go for it but will have to wait and see

You would easily get £3.5k for a stock bike, let alone all the accessories. The bike as is imho is a £4k+ bike all day long. Due to the pandemic bike prices specially on the FZ1 are much higher than they should be. Look at the 15k mileage price point on the following page -

So if you have any of the original stock items (like Gnasher suggested) I would personally put those back on and sell all the accessories separately. I say this as a lot of the items you have put on there are worth hard cash  -

Bodywork:
  • Carbon fibre rear hugger
Chassis:
  • Rizoma Risers, Drag bars, Lux Grips & Bar ends
  • Pazzo Levers
  • Abarth Scorpion Radiator Grill
  • Carbon Fibre Heel Plates
  • Gilles gold chain adjusters
Engine:
  • Power commander 3 with custom map
  • Mivv Gp Carbon endcan
  • O2 sensor eliminator
  • Exup servo eliminator
  • Updated Rotor and Stator
All of the above are sought after items, eg PowerCommander.

Sorry you must have replied while I was writing my response to Gnasher haha

Thanks for the link, that's the kind of thing I was trying to find.
As for the extras, sadly I don't have much of the original stuff anymore. If I part ex it to a dealer then I will take off as much as I can to sell but if I sell privately I would just leave it all on as part of the price. I did consider removing things like the power commander but I feel that's slightly dishonest to the next owner as the bike would run like shit given the other mods to the air and exhaust system etc
At least if it went to a dealer the next owner would be able to take that up with them haha

Sorry to say this mate but you're discovering what many others have before you and didn't realise.   The more you change/bling up a bike from standard the less it's worth.

The biggest depreciation element is colour/paint to bodywork, tank, frame, wheels, coloured break lines etc, then comes anything that's non standard and isn't a direct replacement, screens, exhausts, end cans etc.  Things that are good but don't add value like suspension up grades, yes it's an Ohlins shock or Ktech front revalve/cartridge but the bike must have suspension, the fact it's now fitted with 3k worth of AM won't add 3k to the bike.  The other big blind hole is tuning, PC, Power plus etc, they don't add value.

The colour of yours appeals to you and possibly to some others, but not the masses, so it could potentially sit in their showroom for months even years!

I always tell my customers to keep all standard parts and avoid colour changes.  If they really want to change the colour get a second set of body work/tank and change that, keeping the originals.  Come sell on time put the bike back to standard and sell off the painted parts for crash repairs etc.

Racers have been doing just that for years ;)

Put it back standard as far as you can, if you want a trade in.   You'd be better off trying to find the other person via a private sale, who likes/wants the colour.

What you thinking of going on to?

Yeah I'm aware that's the case and tbh I'm not bothered by it, I knew I woukdnt keep it for life and I knew every penny spent would be more or less going down the drain in the long run BUT I enjoyed it for what it was along the way. As stupid as it sounds I enjoyed the fact it stands out and at meets/shows it would always get a lot of attention.
Now I'm getting past all that and want something that actually going to suit my needs a little more. Mainly something with heated grips and a tank range of more than 2 miles 🤣

As for my next bike I'm about 80% sure I want a Kawasaki z1000sx. It seems to tick all the boxes. It's got a decent amount of usable power, wind protection, the ability to attach panniers that don't look too ugly. There are other added bonuses too like rider modes, ABS etc etc that I'm not fussed about but it's not a bad thing to have.
It will also be nice to go back to a bike that is 'standard', Save a few tweaks like heated grips and endcans etc

Thats my No.1 atm (and the bike I'm trying to part ex toward)
But other options in my price range/taste are

Versys 1000
MT-09 Tracer
VFR1200 (with the semi auto gearbox)
BMW S1000R
Aprilia Tuono (dream bike but no local dealer support 😕)

There is also a stunning MV Augusta Brutale 800rr for sale near me that I have been drooling over but I don't think it's enough of a different bike to the FZ1 to warrant buying it haha

But anyway back to the title.... do you think £3500 is a fair price for mine if sold privately?

So I've decided I'm ready to move on from my Fz1n 😕. I've had it nearly 5 years now and although it's great in many ways I'm just ready so something that's a lot less showy and with slightly more practicality. Anyway I've been in touch with a few dealers about part ex deal but they are all coming back with ridiculous low ball offers (as expected) so I'm think of selling privately instead I'm just not sure on what it's going to be worth?

I think realistically thinking i would want it to go for £3500? I see some go for much more but also newer ones go for less. My main problem is the amount of sorted extra bits on it but I know that's only important to somebody looking for this particular set up. I'll list everything to do with it here and see what you all think

Yamaha FZ1-N, 2007, 16700 miles

Bodywork:
  • 3 Keys
  • Abarth Assetto Corse Paint Job  - w/colour matched Aftermarket Bellypan.
  • Genuine Yamaha LED indicators
  • Carbon fibre rear hugger
  • Rear Seat Cowl
  • LED Tail Light with built in Indicators
Chassis:
  • Rizoma Risers, Drag bars, Lux Grips & Bar ends
  • Pazzo Levers
  • Wezmoto Stainless Braided hoses
  • Hyperpro Steering Damper
  • Abarth Scorpion Radiator Grill
  • Lars Airbox Mod
  • Carbon Fibre Heel Plates
  • Aftermarket Brake Discs (I forget the brand)
  • Hyperpro Progressive Spring fitted to original rear shock
  • Resprung and recently serviced front forks
  • Gold VXM heavy duty DID chain with black stainless rear sprocket
  • 16T (-1) Silent JT front sprocket
  • Gilles gold chain adjusters
Engine:
  • Power commander 3 with custom map
  • Piper X air filter
  • De-catted headers/downpipe
  • Mivv Gp Carbon endcan
  • O2 sensor eliminator
  • Exup servo eliminator
  • Updated Rotor and Stator
I think that's about everything 🙈😅 and like I say I know the vast majority of that will not count for anything with a dealer🙄. But what do we think? Am I being realistic at £3.5k ?

That is a very cleverly done video, simple and effective explanation 👍🏻

But.... not all of us are woke millenials crying about the planet. Not to put to finer point on it but i couldn't give a shite how much crap my vehicles pump out 🤷‍♂️ when I go to buy a car or motorbike I buy based on desire, price, mod cons, looks etc as I'm sure the vast majority of people from my era and above do.

All of that aside the amount either of them damage the world is not the issue, charging is.
Until they can create an EV that charges in minutes and goes at least 200miles from that charge, they'll never get people to adopt it.
Also there's the actual issue with where to charge it. Fine of you live in a nice semi detached house with a drive way where you can fit a plug. But what about the people that live in terraced houses or places that are so congested that you might have to park 3 streets away from your house?
If they fixed that side of thing I'm sure they would be many more people to start buying them rather than trying (as usual) to lecture and guilt them into it by harping on about saving the planet

« on: 26 February 2021, 06:29:15 pm »
I've often wondered this too. Most of my trips are only 3 miles to work then 3 miles home and obviously that's supposed to be a big No-no but I've been doing that for 8 years now and never had a problem 🤷‍♂️
Like you said about the car... wouldn't think twice jumping in that to niP to a shop or ya mates/parents/kids house a mile or 2 away

I think you just have to change your oil more often if you are only doing short runs as it ends up building up that mayo type stuff in it. That's probably where the problems would occur if you end up with a too high ratio of water in your oil. I change mine at least twice a year so maybe that's why I've never had an issue 🤔

Seen it all now,I ordered oil & filter on line and it came today in a fucking cardboard box! it's called a lube cube and you push a perforated part of the box and pull this moody top out which is attached to a polythene bag of oil then pour it out.To be fair it did work ok with my lovely wife holding the funnel but it all seemed a bit cheap and cheerful to me,it's supposed to be good for the environment so I suppose we'd better get used to it. ;)

Yeah my last lot of oil came like that. Found it a bit of a faff doing it on my own as you have to either keep the spout out of the box or just take the full bag out..  neither way works well with 1 hand while your holding a funnel 🙄
Tickles me anyway.... better for the planet, yeah unlike the 4litres of dead dinosaur inside of it 🤣

Anyway a continuation of my saga. The bike was collected last night and taken to the garage. I received a call from my mechanic this morning. He didn't go as far as admitting it was a fault from his end but I think he's happy to agree with my logic that they were the last people to touch it and it hasn't been ridden since. So anyway he has taken the cover off, fitted a new gasket, 3 new bolts then topped up the oil. He has then cleaned and degreased the whole bike for me (including some special tyre degreaser on the rear🤷‍♂️)
Now as a gesture of good will he is looking into the charging issue for me for free and if its something he can sort without parts then he's not going to charge me (although it's not in me to accept work for free so I will still pay him for collecting and dropping of the bike at least)
So fingers crossed its something simple but seeing as the stator, rotor and battery are less than 9 months old and have only been used for probably 4 hrs max I can see it being something else expensive 🙈

'kin hell!! there's no way I'd have took it back to that garage,it's so obvious someone there has made a balls up,whether it's Guy Martins mech or Fred Bloggs. That could have been bad news in the wrong situation and if you'd had an accident and had to be taken to hospital the filth would have been all over the bike and put it down to your neglect ! I'd make some excuse and get it back you'll be wondering everytime you go out on it if they've done the jobs right! :eek

I know what your saying but I've been using him for probably 7 or 8 years now without issue, as have most of my mates. Hes always gone above and beyond for me in the past and I have no reason to distrust him. If it is a problem that's come from his place (which it likely is) then he will no doubt be mortified and will do everything in his power to make it right.
My only other assumption is that there has been a 3rd mechanic helping out during lockdown due to demand so its possible he may have made a mistake? Or at the end of the day its a possibility my guy made a mistake.... we're all human. Either way I'm confident in him enough to know it will be sorted and sorted properly 🤞

Well never seems to be good news for me and my Fz1 thses days 😞 thought seeing as the weather is good I'd finally go out for the first ride of the year. Started this time so got all geared up and out I went.
While riding I started to notice another noise coming from the engine (similar to the one I had just sorted out) but wasn't sure if I was just hearing things as I hadn't been on it for a while. Anyway it was causing concern in the back of my mind so I decided to come back after only 20 miles.... well let's just say I must have either a 6th sense or a guardian angel because as I pulled up outside my house my wife asked whats leaking out on my bike. To my shock and horror there is shit loads of oil on the floor, all down the lower left side on the engine and up the side of the rear tyre!!
Upon closer inspection I see that 3 bolts are missing from the oil pump cover and the 4th is halfway out!
What's really confusing is the fact that I have never undone that in my life (I didn't even know what cover it was until I googled it) so my only other theory is that when I took it into the garage to find out what the noise problem was, they must of removed that cover and either not torqued it properly or maybe even missed a couple of bolts?!?
Now I trust my mech whole heartily and he is one of the best in the area (he even does dyno work for Guy Martin) so I'm positive it isn't down to poor mechanics but I can't think of any other way it would have come loose for no reason?
I've spoke to him and he says he doesn't think that cover was removed but he isn't 100%. There are also 2 other mechanics that work there so could possibly have even been one of those 🤷‍♂️
Then to add insult to injury I tried to start it (to get it up the drive into the garage, didn't even think about the oil leak 🙈) and the fucking battery is dead again..... so there is also a problem with the charging system again 😫😫
Im having it collected later so the garage can have a look at it. I'll have to speak to the mechanic a bit more to decide what's going to happen with regards to the cover/leak
Either way I'm happy to have made it home without incident

It shouldn't be a loose nut. It should be a well nut? You know the ones that are seating in rubber and pushed through before the bolt goes in?
They are on mine anyway?

Another great answer from the Foccer's font of all knowledge, this forum has always been great and simple things like this, which seem difficult, are made simple again.

Dudeofrude you were right, it was a well nut but the rubber had pushed through and the nut was too low to get the bolt onto it, however after removing the inner fairing panel and undoing the bottom tank cowling bolt I was able to wriggle a finger in and push the bottom of the well nut rubber up and get it started on the bolt, then just put everything back and tighten up as I went.
Cheers dude  :woot

No worries mate 👍🏻 I only know as I've had mine apart so many times and managed to ruin the well nuts so had to replace them haha anyway glad it was a simple fix 😅

I wouldnt worry about it. At the end of the day, you don't really know, the DVLA won't know and the Police certainly wouldn't have a clue. Its only the insurance that would ever have something to say (should the need arise).
I'd say as long as you actually have it restricted with a legitimate restriction kit, have all the paperwork to say so, then you will be perfectly fine👍🏻

Thought I'd takeover out for the first time this year. Pulled off the covered, dragged her kicking and squealing (brakes binding) out of the garage and thought i best see if she starts before I bother with anything else.... on the button no problem.
So I let her warm up as I proceed to faff about putting all my armour back into my jeans and jacket. Got all suited up, ear plugs in, helmet on, door locked, garage locked, opened the driveway gate, back to the bike, swung my leg over, caught the gear lever and stalled it. Went to fire her back up..... battery is dies 😭😭😭
Tried for a minute or so to get something going but nope. Had to get all my gear off, get the bike back in the garage...all the locks, removed the battery and that's now on charge for the night.
Next few days weather looking crap so guess that's that for now 😫

Should be a change in the MOT rules - if you do less than 1000 miles a rear then you only need one every 2 years.

But the you'd just get idiots unplugging their tachos all year just to save £29 🙄 and the market would be flooded with 15 year old bikes that had only done 2000miles haha

Got an armfull of Pfizers finest this morning. Still can't speak Chinese though. Mind you, I have enough trouble with English. :lol
Well done I am sure you will be fine.
I have found the published results from the trials which shows that the younger are getting side effects but not the old. Why is this info not mentioned anywhere in the news. The row at the top is 18-55 age

But who can prove that these ailments weren't about to happen anyway? Seeing as the jab takes weeks of the body going through a defence process to really have an effect.
People will have the jab who are already ill or are about to be ill, so blaming the vaccine could be totally false.

You mean like they do with the reported "covid" deaths 😅🙈

I've had 2 friends die of Covid since last Sunday, and there's another family member of one of those still on a ventilator too.
That's "of" it, not "with" it.

Saying that, i don't agree with the 28 day window thing, it makes no sense at all, but i guess resources are not exactly plentiful right now to delve further into real causes of death rather than just tarring them with the same brush.

Sorry to hear that Darrsi 😔

But yes the way the deaths are reported is just part of a scaremongering programme... im sure of it. I believe it was last week when we reported one of the highest daily deaths since it all began and my local papers headline said something along the lines of "Grim day as highest daily covid death counted in local hospitals" as we had 6 deaths recorded in 1 day.... well turns out when you actually read the full article that 4 of the deaths occurred in November, one in December and the other at the beginning of Jan. So the actual truth of it was that nobody had died of Covid in our area on that particular day but because of the way these idiots record things they managed to justify a misleading headline 🙄
