FZS600 Fazer / burning oil
« on: 27 September 2014, 09:41:51 am »
Hi. It's evident I'm using oil. Maybe needing to top up every thousand or so miles. By top up I mean the light comes on when going up an incline so it's not totally empty but needing some more at least.

Just checked plugs and they all look clean and unworn so doesn't look like oil getting in. Someone suggested using thicker oil. Can anybody advise on this. Last oil used was motul semi 5000 10w40.

Bike is 2000 plate with about 30k miles

If it is a yes vote, I propose England should also monitor its borders. It can let any Scot in EXCEPT for Frankie Boyle. Hell, I'd support Scotland's cause if that was one of the stipulations of a yes vote.

I get a text from the garage a couple weeks before the MOT is due. Surprised more garages don't do that.

Can't help with the EXUP but just replying to let you know that I'm a Durhamer too - Black '00 600 Fazer, so may be me if you see one dotting about. Brother also a Fazer owner, black tank/silver plastics.

Here's my silly response, but who knows eh.

You're not missing any spacers between the wheel and swing arm? Also, your rear axle isn't bent?

Just took the seat off and it has sticker as cg125s - we too don't list an 's' model, so just emailed David silver spares to see what they suggest.

Roger. Still have no idea which parts I need to buy though (ie which model on we motto). David silva didn't offer much help

Can you expand on that?

Cheers, sure it's W model but need to check.

Just general service stuff (oil, filters etc) and a new exhaust. It's the exhaust that I need to know is going to fit as don't want to pull out £60 for something that is wrong.

Aye, only 4 gears but does 60 comfortably. Any idea which model it will be listed as on WeMoto though?

It's wor lasses - she did her CBT last week and wanted a 125 - I've introduced her to the fabulous world of biking (and it only cost me £160 off a mate - local shop had one advertised for £650 - may be far better bikes but it is quite fun to ride, she likes it, and I can't see us getting anything better for such a lowly sum)

Hi, wondering if you can help identify this Honda:

http://martynsmotorcycles.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/PB062587.jpg

It's 2001 registered, has no starter motor (kick only), and is the older looking square headlight.

Just trying to figure out which version it is so I can order spares (PS, that's not a photo of mine but same model).

THanks,

I know engine out sounds daunting, but I did it myself and I class myself as basic when it comes to these things. I used the opportunity to give my head and block a much needed paint, as well as lapping the valves and changing those stem seals. That's a job I class as never needing to do again now, so all good.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: How often do you clean your pistons/calipers?
« on: 12 July 2014, 08:40:24 pm »
Because if you don't clean, and you ride in all sorts of weather (sure it may not be as bad if you only ride in the sun) then you will eventually get sticking pistons, which equals grabbing pads, which equals warping a £130 disc.

Yeah, think I need to get the chod out of the grooves as you say. My back is perfect, but I spent ages on that.

Just not keen on having to spend 30 odd quid on seals again.

I mean I overhauled mine about 4 months ago. Seals, the lot. They were great for a while but then started grabbing, so I did a quick clean (pads out, extend pistons as far as possible and clean). Now I've just done them again, I tried to do a full clean but couldn't get one of the pistons out. I've just put them back together and they are better but I'm not happy still.

Not sure what to do next. I don't have compressor or anything so was using 2 out, clean, next 2 out and so on. Would love a compressor ad this way it's a pain

« on: 07 July 2014, 09:47:56 am »
So I overhauled my front calipers earlier this year. They were nice and clean, no grab or anything. I ride in all weather, and now about 4 months later I've got grab to the point I haven't rode in today - I need to clean them up again tonight.

4 months doesn't seem like long before having to reclean, so did I just do a poor job first time round? (I spent longer doing the back and that isn't grabbing yet).

How often do you clean yours? (Quick clean, piston out full clean etc - whatever it is you do)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: know nowt about bikes but...
« on: 07 July 2014, 09:39:48 am »
Awesome, well done man!  :D

When I picked up my FZS600 about a year ago (first big bike) my instructor (who sold me it too) said "Go steady, get used to it". Call me stupid but I stuck to the 30 limits, but as soon as I hit a 60 I just couldn't stop myself winding it on. Perhaps not my brightest move after just passing my test and buying a new bike, but the Fazer is an animal that I struggle to tame in terms of keeping the speed down. It just seems to cry "more, more, more, don't stop!"  :rollin

What guilt? She tried to blame the biker, showing zero remorse according to the article.

Can understand some views that it's all very speculative without further details, however, she has been found guilty so she is at fault for a death. Whether she was on her phone and didn't see or simply slipped on the clutch - it's all meaningless in the scheme of things. She took a life, and is serving a lowly sentence.

Don't agree with 'jails are full' view either - that doesn't mean someone should get off with what is essentially murder/manslaughter.

I think the salt in the wound is the zero remorse shown. I might have felt a little better about it if she knew what she'd done wrong. In a year or two she'll be back on the road with the same old view that bikers are second best, perhaps that view might be even strengthened by this decision.

Disgusting.

I've encountered one or two of these myself. I would love to get them in a room with me so I can try and work out what goes through their head. And then maybe get the boys in after to see if I could get it back out of their head.  :rollin

I paid £108 each this year for front wavey's. That was new, from a mate of a mate, but similar price on WeMoto.

I've just ordered some Paolo tickets for the wife - before even selecting seats it had advertised as:

Total cost (Ticket face value)
£38.50 (£35)

That's the way it should be done. As I said, people have to get paid - I'd just prefer if they were upfront about it before you get to the final page before checking out.
