Seem to have a taste for Bath Ales Gem at the moment.

Enjoy Wadworths Old Timer as a winter warmer.

Summer will be here soon so rough cider - the drier the better Hecks is good (along with their perry) and Roger Wilkins at Mudgely for heart of Somerset cider making.

A bit leftfield and not a V8 how about a VW Passat R36? 3.6V6 300bhp 4wd well specced and not many around. 155mph top end and 60 in 5.6.

Like it at times. Never really enjoyed it on my old FZS pre-headlamp mod, got to be one of the worst headlights around - so much so that I used to notice if it was clear sky and full moon.....

Prefer it on my current bike, better headlights i.e. they can actually light up the road. Also they are stacked in the middle of the bike so you really notice the beam shape change when you lean over.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: How do you cope with glasses?
« on: 15 August 2013, 09:00:40 pm »
I've always worn glasses, last time I checked I was outside the tolerances for laser surgery due to my astigmatism. Didn't really get on with contacts so I'm stuck with specs for now. I've a got a Shoei helmet that has cut outs for specs I've also got specs with straight arms that don't rely on hooking over the ear. The Shoei has pin lock visor that prevents most of the misting.

As others point out you do need to move your head more at junctions etc so you are looking through the lens and not out the side but this isn't an issue.

The only thing I find an issue with is really dense fog that creates a film on the visor that constantly needs wiping off, without specs you would just be able to flick the visor up and blink but with specs this is no longer an option as the lenses just get coated in a fine mist. Thankfully pretty rare for fog to be that bad.

Reminds me of a story of a mate of mine's girlfriend she topped up the car with water putting in a watering can full of water and still couldn't see any fluid in the filler neck. So mate asked where she had poured the water - in the filler cap in the middle of the engine!

To top it all off (excuse the pun) he then drained the engine but manage to strip the thread off the sump - not a happy bunny!

Halvarssons make some good kit a bit pricier than some but with a 2 year warranty. Bearing in mind its made in Sweden and they also make kit for snow mobilers they know about keeping warm dry, with good ventilation. 2 year warranty as well which is better than most, not as long as the 5 year Rukka warranty, but it isn't priced at Rukka levels.

I've had a budget jacket and trousers and well recommend it. Esp if you need trousers with a long leg - they sell their textiles in 3 leg lengths which is great for me.

I use Suzuki GSXR 1000 K7 as my only bike and commuter. As long as I can I will stick to sports bikes, so I would go for the Aprilia RSV4 Factory as money is no object I would add BST carbon wheels, suspension revalve, 24 litre fuel tank and heated grips. Would also add other bling but that would be the main things for starters.

I just stick all the kit in bin liner in the Pacsafe and wrap the cable round the back wheel a couple of times to remove any slack. I leave it on the floor on side stand side of the bike.

Its worked well enough so far, even used in central London no one has taken an interest in it.

I've used the Pacsafe a few times on a chuck all my bike kit in it never had a problem. Putting it in all in dustbin liner first hides what it is and keeps the rain off.
Well recommended.

Almost - the yellow R isn't right and it looks more purple & black rather than black & purple.
Anyway its a bit academic as SWMBO isn't letting me add another bike to the garage! Shame really as you won't lose anything on depreciation if you find a good originalish one at the right price.

That is the colour scheme I want for this bike. Suzuki should do a modern version of this colour scheme.

Wins an award for bike most in need of a tail tidy, can't work out why the indicators are so far away from the rest of rear lights. Also the front would be better with LED indicators in the mirrors BUT it is well priced and the engine should be a peach so those niggles are quickly forgotten.
Still waiting for the big bang triple R1 I guess......

I had an email from Yam about which linked to the following:

Yamaha - The Dark Side of Japan

Pretty vague, was hoping it would be the new R1 to compete with the S1000RR, RSV4 and the Panigale but seems unlikely! Most likely to be their new triple I think.

Also worth checking front and rear wheel bearings, even if just to discount it as a cause.

Changing the preload might be a start drop the rear and / or raise the front. Tyres also make a difference - BT-023's on mine made the steering really slow compared to Metzler M5's.
Found the steering is more sensitive than an FZS600 but also found with more weight going through the bars, due the riding position, also give better front end feedback.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Bridgestone BT016 vs BT016 PRO?
« on: 20 April 2013, 10:07:49 am »
The BT020 is old - replaced by the BT021 then the BT023 and now the T30.
The S20 is available in 110/70 so should fit the Fazer, this might be the way to go for hot weather / surfaces (something my bike doesn't see enough of!). On Bridgestone's site they claim this better in all conditions than the BT016 Pro.

Also on the Bridgestone site they claim the S20 to be an improvement on the BT016 Pro, so might be worth a look.

When you say slip is this because of the road surface?

Just thinking it might be better to go for a decent sport touring tyre like the BT023 or the new T30. "Stickier" tyres, in the extreme, tend to be stickier only when they are hot and up to operating temperature. If you have slippery conditions and cool weather they will be worse than a "touring" tyre. My GSXR came with Metzler K3s a "sticky" tyre but crap in cold and wet conditions. Also a Fazer 600 as standard doesn't have enough ride height to get much lean angle to trouble a sticky tyre.

On my Fazer I really liked Metzeler Z6 or Michelin PR2 (this was a couple of years ago before the PR3 and Z8 came out). I've run the M5 on the GSXR1000 in all weathers found them predictable but a bit wooden - no issues but not confidence inspiring either. I've changed to BT023 this winter and found them more communicative (appreciate this is purely subjective!) but far slower steering than the M5, the bars need a lot more weight to turn and feels as it steering through treacle.

When the BT023 go (I'm too tight to change tyres with tread) I will try the T30 as they are meant to be faster steering.

I've had a 1/2" Draper £30 jobbie that has more than paid for itself. Came recommended in mechanics some mag years ago. Alright for home use.

Never had anything major fall off so must be doing it's job. Think it's only good for above 30Nm though so tend to use on things like axle nuts and brake caliper bolts.

Everything nonlifethreateningifitfallsoff gets done by feel.

Similar here, Honda Accord front side lights require you to undo the wheel arch liners and then squeeze hand through a tiny gap and do it all by feel. At least I have plenty of experience of groping in the dark.

Another thumbs up for SBS Street Excel sintered here. Run them on the GSXR on the road in pretty much all weather, (normally) stick to the cage below 2 degrees though. They came well recommended from a GSXR forum, seem really good from road use through to track days.
Never heard a bad comment from anyone who has used them.

You say France is lousy however a few years ago I bought some Fazer bits from a guy in the UK who was going over to France with a Merc van to buy accident damaged bikes and break / sell as a project over here. He quite liked getting bikes from the Marseille area, the reason - no salt on the roads, less rain and therefore less corrosion.
Dunno what the issues are with the French insurance damaged stuff and putting back on the road though.

Personally I would go for an old GSXR - plenty of streetfighter inspiration around.

Halvarssons: might be a bit over budget but the kit is pretty good. 2 year guarantee which is better than most other stuff unless you spend a fortune on Rukka.

I've got the Spartacus jacket and Strike trouser combo as recommended in Ride. Had them for about 18 months and they have been great.
