Title: So.... My lad has a new bike...
Post by: dolau on 07 June 2012, 12:43:55 pm
Brought himself a naked CB1300 - 04 and had a ride on it at the weekend

I have never really ridden a BIG bike other than his Blackbird and that just gave me cramp after a few miles

The CB is amazing- the low down torque means you hardly have to change gear and to overtake you just point and shoot!

I want one!.... with a bikini fairing of course- the CB1300SA.. have one in my sights just need to do a deal and sell my FZ6S2 to clinch it... shame after getting on 10 years on Fazers but........

Have you tried the Fazer thou? Plenty of grunt and does everything well. Also comfortable riding position for us "suitably-aged" types! :lol

Wot he said. ^ Fazer thou over one of those porky Honda things for me. Can't see the Honda being in the least bit sporty should you feel the urge to let your hair down a bit. Fazer is just a damn good bike for all occasions but it's your choice of course.  :\

The big CB is a cracking bike Dolau. Usual top quality Honda finish, pulls like a steam train and lots of road presence. Just a tad big. Not something you'd be chucking around the twisties at any great speed.

its that ltr + bike buzz :)
I prefer the XJR1300 but they are all fairly good for what they are. but as otheres have said they have thier drawbacks, like any bike though.
thats why i went gen 1 1000 as it did a bit of everything fairly well.
but for the feel of something like the CB1300 or XJR 1300 etc they are great if you want to potter round with oddles of power throbbing away and classic looks

s'funny but i sat on one yesterday.
by the power of greyskull............that's what i said as i hoiked it upright off the sidestand. by christ is it heavy at a standstill. and  v e r y   l o n g   t o o! it was parked next to a gen2 and was a good 3" spindle to spindle plus a bit hanging out the back as well.
just remember you are buying mid eighties engine tech. tbh the original jellymould 1000 was a fine bike (i discovered what linear meant after riding it) but even after a week with it i found it bland (or typically Honda)

Have ridden the thou (No1 son again) and thought that my little 600 51 plate handled better at the time and my 08 FZ6S2 handles better than that.

I was just taken aback by the torque of the big Honda. He also has a blackbird and that is just raw power with no finesse and an ache in the wrists if you cant keep an average speed of 80 up all the time

the CB has just a lazy engine with so much torque (and five gears) that you only need the top two once you are off and the power to overtake..........  :eek

probably miss the one I am after   :'( as I cant sell mine quickly due to family commitments at the moment but I am talking to the guy selling it to see if I can put a deposit down or something

Red and white with red frame and gold wheels and loads of goodies

I had a CB1300S for 3 years and it is a great bike. Handles surprisingly well. Bike Mag did a test a few years ago with a 24hr race on the TT circuit.....CB1300 vs ZX10. The ZX10 only just won.
Downside to the CB..........can be a bit vibey especially the faired version, only has 5 gears (I was constantly looking for 6th), and the most important point...........NOT the usual top quality Honda finish.
Better that the other muscle bikes.....nearly. Not however as good all-round as a Gen 1.
