Title: Chain & Sprockets

I'm in the market for a new chain, & I'll replace both sprockets as well.....

D.I.D chains seem to be the way to go BUT they do a std & a supadupa version.....the supadupa version is dearer so has anyone got any real world experience of these chains?
Having an Ivanised bike which I do tend to rag a tad I am leaning to the supadupa chain.....


Sprockets - JT are known for being good quality but there is a co. making bushed "silent" sprockets (as per OEM apparently)...again, anyone got any experience of such matters?

If you can afford the supercarlosfandango chain and sprockets... buy them.

Hells naw. Jt sprockets are barely fit for purpose and built to a price.
DID gold xvm chain for sure but I would recommend and exclusively use renthal sprockets front and rear.
Don't let the fact that the rear its alloy  it still lasts longer than a Jt Steel one.
I get around 30000 miles from mine before a change is needed and even then it's more out of embarrassment/guilt than a requirement.

Decision made on the chain anyway - it will be the D.I.D XVM..!   :)


The sprockets - I'm torn between Renthal & these "silent" Ognibene sprockets.......decisions, decisions..........  :rolleyes


I'm at one of those annoying (expensive) points where a few jobs need doing!....I need a new rear tyre & a rear disc as well....another whole dilemma as I like the wavy Galfer type but then it won't match the front but I don't want to change the front ones as well as they cost massive £'s....Aaaarrggghh!  :eek :'(

 I believe DID ZVM is the OE chain for the FZS1000.
I use a Scottoiler, after 17,000 miles with a new ZVM chain I can’t detect any measurable stretch in it, no tight spots either.  Popped a new Renthal front sprocket in, so should be good for another 17,000 miles.
The only other thing I’d say is that if you are replacing an OE spec front sprocket with a third-party sprocket expect a good bit more transmission noise.  The Yamaha OE sprocket was silly money last time I checked.

£43.10 from aj Sutton, maybe a bit cheaper from your local dealer Sutton’s usually include postage.

£35 from my local Yammy dealer. Which i dont think is too bad for something I'll probably only replace every 5 or so years

I bought a did super heavy duty chain and jet sprockets. Bought an endless chain and just took the swing arm out to fit it. It’s been great last 5000 miles and I ride pretty hard I think.

I fitted the Ognibene sprockets front and rear when I changed to a new D.I.D XVM chain (a year or so ago), and they seemed fine.
Couple of weeks ago had the urge to go down one tooth (16 to 15) on the front sprocket and selected a renthal at a really good price (along with a new tab washer), didn't really notice it being that much noisier, but currently running with an Akrapovic Ti Race can so that drowns out any transmission noises that would have been detected otherwise...  :D
Main thing for me, one tooth down = awesome pick-up at any revs in any gear especially at lower (town speed) revs, best thing I ever did... I weigh in at 110kg so need a bit of extra pull (!)
I also fitted the 4 degree advancer and set up the exup valve properly for the 1st time, now she really pulls like a train - loving it!  :eek
