Mine was like that when I got it.   I blasted it with paraffin and my air line then sprayed it with graphite lock lube and it's not too bad now.  They come up on eBay often, ignition, petrol cap and helmet/seat lock for around £80
Intentionally left blank

That is assuming it's a gen 1.

Chain lube is your friend, squirt some down the hole (do not squirt WD40)

Try industrial amount of Halfords electrical contacts cleaner to remove any dirt first, wait to dry well or use compressed air, than use graphite lock lube.

Ooo, I dunno about that BikerDude. Your mileage may vary, but I ruined an Abus U lock with chain lube.

I'd used 3 in 1 for years but thought I try chain lube and over a couple of weeks the mechanism got stiffer until it jammed. Eventually it got so bad I spent 30 mins trying to open it at the car park and was lucky I didn't have to cut it off. I let it soak in various solvents over several days trying to get the stuff out and then lubed it with 3 in 1, but it was never the same again so I stopped using it. Chain lube seems to attract every little bit of grit and muck and turn it into a paste like what you'd find behind the sprocket cover. I would never use it on an ignition lock. They're far too fragile.

My ignition lock is now so worn I can take the key out with the ignition on. In fact, I had keyless ignition before the Multistrada. It's still working ok, and it's done 150k miles..... a single drop of 3 in 1 down it after every wash. The tank and seat lock work like new.

Do you mean this WD40 3-in-1 lock lube?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MD55WSA/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3?pf_rd_p=569136327&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00BBTJ460&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1N0EJESX6MES3XVY11WN

That will work, but so will this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/3--Ho5110-Standard-Flexican-Oil/dp/B0001P0AI6/ref=sr_1_1?s=diy&ie=UTF8&qid=1445944658&sr=1-1&keywords=3in1

I used to use WD40 but someone on this forum pointed out that it will degrease the lock meaning it will work well at first then get quickly worse. A couple of drops of 3in1 into the barrel, and a couple of drops onto the key itself to help distribute it seems to work well.

Use loads of WD40 to flush the crap out of the barrel and then lube with 3 in 1

Asda maintenance spray, once a month, with a straw into the lock - keeps mine happy.

Im gonna plug the graphite spray again as what i would trust best now.

Trouble is youve probably pumped so much stuff down there now will it have anywhere to go.......although surely contact would flush it all out........i heard once that you shouldnt put oul in as it can attract dirt over time and become a grinding paste.

Anyway back to my point...i think id go with the contact cleaner once more and then the graphite spray after everything has dried up.
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

You could consider taking the lock unit off and bringing it to a locksmith for a proper service.
