Jumping to conclusions a little early there arent we, I'm a former member of the emergency services and attended an incident very similar to that where the bike went (missing) in the confusion, turns out the bike was stolen and his mates were hiding the evidence, not saying thats what happened here but lets not assume all our fellow bikers are saints.

An almost identical theft took place in Bristol only a couple of weeks ago:

Saddens me that I have to share my planet with people like this. The comments underneath this story seem to indicate most people aren't even interested in what happened either, only concerned about having their anti-cycling rants. Very depressing.

What's the betting that the insurers will try to weasel out of paying?

A guy got T-Boned last Saturday right outside my local pub. They took him away in a Helicopter no idea if he survived. For someone to nick his gear would have been unthinkable.

Don't know all the ins-and-outs legally, but I should think if someone has died, there would be some form of inquest, in which case the bike would form part of the evidence - thus if someone has taken it (or tampered with it), then it could be argued that the theft/tampering has hampered / obstructed any investigation (so potentially leading to prosecution on that account, as well as a theft charge).
