Title: FZS €uro Tour
Post by: apage16 on 15 August 2014, 10:55:06 pm
Sooooo....

I went on a little 4000 mile trip on my Fazer this summer. And, as some of you may have become accustomed to, I recorded it with many cameras!

Here's a little taster of what's to come.

http://youtu.be/yC4rty7FJyE (http://youtu.be/yC4rty7FJyE)

It would be great to get a few more subscribers on the channel, so if you like it, please do feel free to like the video and give me a sub for up to the minute video action!!

Cheers fellows!

Good trailer, I'll be tuning in for the feature film.
A few off the beaten track roads as well by the look of it, my favourite type of touring.
Nice choice of music to go with it, Spanish guitar- did you go to Spain as well? Guess I'll have to wait. So often people put up videos of whatever accompanied by their favourite type of music which isn't everyones type, so they stop watching.

You need that bloke with the really gruff voice doing a voice over as well, like in a Mad Max trailer.  :lol

I work in the film industry so can really appreciate the effort that you've put into that short trailer alone.

Very nicely done fella, and also a great advert for the bike.  ;)

Excellent taster, can't wait for the rest Andy!
You're movies and clips get better with each new one, can I see a new career in the making?
Knowing you're a musician as well, I wondered if the soundtrack on that was your own composition too? Seems like a logical progression.

Would you mind if I share this on another forum?

Thank you all very kindly chaps! Great response so far, better than expected!

In answer to the questions...

Phil, Spain will be featuring about mid way.

Darrsi, cheers for the appreciation, and it I did seriously consider trying the gruff voiceover effect "This summer, one man....."

Rodyork, It'll be more of a series to start with, but no reason why I can't compile an all in one movie version at the end for those who have enough popcorn!

Nick, Thanks a lot! I'm glad there's obvious improvement and I would LOVE the idea of this being the full time job! The Music is indeed mine (cheers Darrsi for the youtube post, good background knowledge there!).  And PLEASE do share the trailer where ever and however you feel like!

I'm almost done with episode 1. The longest (by far) ride of my entire life!!

I think I am a contender for longest ride on a Fazer 600.

I did from here (Oxford) to about an hour south of Oslo in 48 hours. That's about 1200 miles. I hope your arse wasn't as sore as mine when I got there! I had to shift my weight about every 5 minutes by that time. I rode from Oxford (6pm) Dover, Calais (arrived about 1am) to Antwerp (slept), then Munster, Hamburg, Puttgarden, Copenhagen (midnight, slept), Gothenburg, Rudskogen in Norway, by 6pm. Including meeting my mate in Gothenburg, and going shopping for our week of camping!
Then home via Wiesbaden for a week (sprocket and chain change), then Paris for 3 days. Approx 3500 miles, over 2000 of which without satnav, some without a wallet and only Danish Kroner! It rained from England to Hamburg too, which is a bloody long way! I feel your pain in Ep 1!

Where are you in North Germany? Road trips are fun - if I can afford it, I'm going to do similar again next year, but go lots of other countries - I'd like to go to Poland, East Germany would be good, Austria/Switzerland, Italy, maybe even further!

I've going to watch all your episodes now :D

It sounds like my arse was just the same as yours. For stretches of miles at a time i was gripping the tank with my knees and half standing on the pegs to hover my poor arse off the seat! And that was with an inflatable seat cover thingy!

Hope you enjoy(ed) the rest of the episodes. Another new one coming today....

I did have a screen on the bike, it's hard to make out in the pic, but it is there! But yes, it's not much fun by that stage is it? I'd slow down to about 75/80mph and just stand upright for about 30s, that helps too. Probably got some odd looks in Sweden! I'll look into one of those seat covers for next time, that and probably limit my mileage to 400-500 per day! How long did your roadtrip take and were you riding daily?

Got any pics of the complete bike?

I much, much prefer that chopped up fairing to standard. The ugliness of the standard item is one of the reasons I bought a bike that;d been converted to naked. (it is my 2nd fazer, the 1st had the fairing).

I'm impressed at how minimal you kept your luggage as well! Obviously no tent! How long were you on the road for? I was away for 3 weeks. Carried food and water with me too.

Really feeling for you at the end of that episode too! Looks WARM too. Kevlar jeans just aren't breathable enough for Spanish weather!

Au contraire! I have a one man tent, airbed and a sleeping bag in that little lot! Plus my macbook and the cables to go with!

Only 1 pair of pants and a spare t shirt though!
Title: Re: FZS €uro Tour
Post by: papercutout on 29 October 2014, 08:35:22 pm
Did you use the tent? Teensy tiny sleeping bag too! It's not as if you'd have needed a warm one in those temperatures though! Bit minimal on the old clothing front there chap, I'm sure you could have fitted more than 1 of each in! :p

Just looked at some of your old posts - do you still have your bike, or did you sell up?

The tent is actually the silver 'tube' in the second photo. The sleeping bag was TINY. It's inside the main bag.

Did I say SPARE pants, I meant the ones I was wearing. 4 days before they really needed a wrinse. (Old one, but a good one. Like the pants...)

If you have a working scottoiler, they really aren't that hard to set up so they work properly! My old one didn't work at all, the present one works fine. I just have to top it up every few weeks with chainsaw oil!
Title: Re: FZS €uro Tour
Post by: apage16 on 10 November 2014, 02:48:59 pm
I'm sure you're right old chap. Problem was my chain oiler was the basic Tutoro one. (Top up, turn on, ride off....forget to turn off frequently, top up even more frequently, FAFF lots...)

So it just wouldn't maintain a steady and useable flow. I might stretch to a proper scottoiler in the future. But for now it's chain wax and cleaning! Hopefully the next bike will be shaft drive! My knees are getting too old for chain oiling!!

You don't come across as at all old!

I got my scottoiler second hand from ebay. Mounting it somewhere subtle was the trickiest bit of the operation. It's still not perfect, but works well, and I've not had to adjust my chain once yet.

I suppose I'm not THAT old. Just a smidge over half way to retirement! I guess I'm just lazy!

I might keep my eye out for a second hand one. I hate adjusting the chain almost as much as I hate putting more fuel in!

This one was an amazing ride along a spectacular road through northern Spain. Best thing is that I took a wrong turn so I found it completely by accident!

Bit of a nod to the 90's computer game ROAD RASH too. I was chasing some locals and it made me think about my misspent youth!

Looking good mate! I definitely think I'll let you know when I'm heading through Europe next year, to see if you want to meet up/join! Really surprised btw - you said 'have some Spanishy music', I shazam'd it, and you came up. Totally unexpected!

I've just got back from Barcelona, 20 degree's during the day, at the end of November. Ice covered bike in the airport back here in the UK, 100 miles of freezing fog home. Not such an enjoyable ending!

Well, actually managed to get fully up to date today. Enjoyed the mountain road bits especially and I'm totally in agreement, mountains are great places to be!

I spent a lot of the first episodes with a growing niggle of, "hang on a minute, what's the point?!" Then got to the bit where you stayed with your uncle; ahhhhh! But I can't help but think that much of the journey seemed like a bit of a chore, covering all the mileage and only stopping for fuel and to overnight. I guess you had time constraints that made this necessary, which was a shame, cos I kept thinking, "go off the beaten track, go and feckin explore somewhere, go to an interesting museum, spend a day in a historic city, what the hell are (aren't) you doing!??"  :lol

But you managed to keep me watching, cos quite clearly, you are totally off your rocker  :)

The other thing I got to thinking (so now that's two thoughts, so I'll have to have a lie down) was, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a camera mounted higher up, perhaps on some kind of vertical pole, and pointing a bit sideways, to catch some of the scenery a bit more? Hmmmm, could be worth a try?

Anyway, thanks for keeping me entertained for a day of my enforced six weeks off with bugger all to do - still got two weeks to go, how about another 30 or so episodes?  :D

Definitely mate! I'm just not getting out enough lately. Partly because of the same weather here in Hamburg as you're having back home. Although chances of snow here are more like 98%!!

So do let me know if you're swinging through. I'd really like to get a ride home in the Spring too. A few bike meets on the 'wrong' side of the road would be the icing on the cake!

And yeah, I try to use my own music as much as possible. I started doing that before the bike videos, but steadily trying to make them symbiotic.

Wow! Thats a lot of viewing Nick! Thanks for taking the time! More episodes are forthcoming. I've got so much footage it's sick! It's going to be at least another 5 just to get back to Hamburg!

You're absolutely right though. The trip could have been SO much more fulfilling, but sadly I misjudged the distance to cover vs the time that I had. This should really have been a months trip, or 2 separate adventures! Still, you live and learn.

The camera on a pole trick actually makes an appearance in the next episode as it happens!

Hope it continues to curb your boredom! Meanwhile, have you seen any of The Gentleman Bikers videos? He rides a Fazer 400 Naked. Very similar sense of humour to me. I really enjoy his videos.

Not surprised you thought of the camera-on-a-stick trick - there are a few vids out there where people have done it to good effect, so I'll look forward to your results  :)
If I ever get around to doing a trip that's worth filming, I think it's something I'll try. I've been struggling to find a good way to mount my cheap little camera higher up, but then realised that well, actually, I'd still be catching a lot of footage of hedges etc, even with it helmet mounted.

You've done really well with all the editing stuff, not sure I could ever get to that level. A lot of work has obviously gone into it, to good effect. That's the other thing that keeps me watching, as we can all just bolt a camera on, lop out a few bits and pieces and lob it on YT (well, unless you go by the moniker of red98 that is  :rollin    :pokefun).

Not sure I want to watch someone riding a Fazer 400 whilst naked though  :eek   :lol

Cheers Nick, really appreciate it. I've always enjoyed stuff like this, so it's a bit of a lifelong labour of love! I definitely studied the wrong thing at university...
