New Brake Discs
« on: 19 August 2013, 01:59:34 pm »
Well looks like my FZS600 needs new discs, looks very worn in some parts. I had wanted to change for OEM but they are £197 each  :eek

My mate has EBC and says they are good but not great, anyone have any other manufacturers that they are happy with? If i can't see anything else it looks like it will be EBC.

Has anyone used these? Ferodo are a good make i thought? Can get them for about £107 a disc but i can't seem to find any reviews.

I agree with him with regards the EBC discs. I put the X series on mine and am sorry I ever did,but cannot afford to change them at the moment. They rust after a wet trip and pads stick to them before next use and are very poor when cold and wet. I have to hold the breaks on lightly for nearly a kilometer in the cold and wet to ensure they heat up to operating temperature. At this stage the OEM would have worked out chaeper for me.
Unfortunately Brembo do not make front ones as their rear is great. I will most likely try the Ferodo next time as I have riddend other bikes with ferodo discs and they feel good
Armstrong, Ferodo, Galfer and Grimeca are the other big brand name options plus the no name ones from china.
It will be inrteresting what the other Foccers have to say

It's one of them funny parts of the bike where paying more for oem to start with works out cheaper in the long run, I too noticed Ferodo had started doing them so I am keeping an ear out for quality and longevity!

I changed mine for some ABEs (all bike engineering) earlier this year, they were a reasonable price and have been happy with them. Minimal surface rust and stop better than oems with the same pads.
