FZS600 Fazer / Re: Chain Replacement?
« on: 15 May 2013, 07:57:43 am »
Thanks for the replies, I wonder if the rust has been from residual salt on the roads, the rear sprocket has a white tinge to it.  Will clean it all up and see how it goes over the next few weeks, would rather not replace it unless I have to!

FZS600 Fazer / Chain Replacement?
« on: 14 May 2013, 01:23:24 pm »
So I think I will have to replace the chain soon, not due to stiff links or anything rather rust.

Bit of history!
2002 with 6k miles, of which I have done 2.5k in the last 12 months.  Original chain / sprockets still fitted, did have chain surface rust when I got the bike last Feb, most of which I could scrub off.  Scott-oiler fitted and the bike is garaged normally.

I can and do clean / oil the chain up regularly (as well as the oiler) however, every time I go out in anything that is slightly damp or more, the chain just about instantly rusts.  The chain tensioner is about half way and no other issues that I can find with it, other than I almost sure I will have to change the front sprocket nut from the 9mm as well.

What do you think, keep or replace and if replace, any recommendations for a set?

Last summer my fazer boiled over sitting in traffic, coolant coming out the overflow pipe before the cooling fan kicked in.  Turned out to be too little antifreeze in the water, was at about 30%.  Now have least 50/50 and no issues with boiling over, cooling fan kicks in fine.

Never seen coolant that colour before, if it looks like oil, and smells like oil :)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Fazer not running properly
« on: 24 April 2013, 09:06:52 pm »
Had something similar today.

After about 15 mins without issue, pulled round a roundabout and opened the gas in 3rd, bike coughs and stutters but clears, about 2 mins later running up the road at 70 (ish) and the power starts dropping off, have to keep opening the gas to keep speed.  Up to the next roundabout a min later and the bike cuts out on me.  Pull into the side, lift the tank and check the fuel tank tap which is on, flick it off and on again.  Been sat now for about 5 mins, try to start her again and all is good.  Ride off and around for another 20 mins without issue, just on the way home and yet another roundabout and I notice the idle at 750/800 rpm instead of the 1200/1300 I know she was idling at when I left.

I'm going to blame old (2 months) dirty fuel until I find something else but yea, starting with draining the carbs / check the fuel filter and empting / slosh out the tank.

Never happened before, carbs balanced last month and plugs have only done 2000 miles.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: New rear brake caliper seals
« on: 09 April 2013, 10:01:29 am »
Used new seals from Wemoto on front, back and master last year, pain to get the old calliper seals out, used a pin in the end.  The replacements fit with no issues and all still works fine.  My bike still had the original lines and seals on, the difference was quiet something, especially combined with fitted new lines (from ebay).

Glad your ok, know how you feel with being nervous, had a couple of near misses myself last year in my first full year on a bike.  Thing that came to mind reading you post was slow down and take your time.  Approach and plan each bend every time, better slow in and accelerate out rather than fast in and fall off.

Take the tank off and turn it round onto the seat and bungee it down.  You will be able to attach the fuel hose on run the engine like that and see the thermostat housing and near-by pipes.

Does the radiator get hot??

Just installed one with the screws, mudguard comes off without removing the wheel, just undo the four bolts.

I use baby wipes too, they just work and will clean your helmet, hands, face etc if needed.  Keep a bag under the seat.

Thanks both, I'll keep an eye on the chain for the time being, no tight links that I have found yet.

FZS600 Fazer / Swing Arm Bearings
« on: 14 March 2012, 09:18:38 pm »
Hello, new fazer owner (and biker) question, if I replace the chain / sprockets do I need to replace the swing arm bearing when I remove it or can I just re-grease them?
Bike is a 2002 with 3500 miles on it, chain has surface rust, been stood for ages and might need renewing, want to understand how much work and cost is involved.

Thanks
Jez
