FZS600 Fazer / broken undertray
« on: 23 May 2013, 09:10:51 am »
Hi,

Over the weekend I dropped the bike in slow motion, I put the side stand down and when getting off the bike it, the bike rolled fwd off the stand.
So while stepping off I had the unfortunate task of trying to stop the bike from dropping to the floor.
Ultimately the bike lay down on the engine bars and saved the front. but the rear left indicator touched down onto the kerb stone and punched through the undertray.

I gaffer taped it up and the other night had a go at using PVC pipe weld to fix the broken plastic.
It worked in some areas of the break but not all.

Has anyone attempted successfully to repair something like this. And how did you do it.

I have seen used undertrays going for £40 approx.
If I cannot repair how easy is it to replace it looks a complete strip down of the rear of the bike. Is it a 5spanner job.

What do you think repair or replace.
Has anyone attempted this replacement before and are there any pitfalls.
Help would be much appreciated.

FZS600 Fazer / C spanner in the 600 toolkit
« on: 10 May 2013, 01:37:11 pm »
Hi,

About to upgrade my rear shock on my FZS600 foxeye from std to the FZS1000 shock with the 600 spring as described on the forum.

My question is:
Do I need to buy a different C spanner for the spring preload adjusting ring.

Or can I use the C spanner in the 600 toolkit to do the same job on the 1000 shock.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Pass switch stopped working
« on: 05 February 2013, 02:15:49 pm »
Bulbs are fine they work on dipped and full beam when selected.

Just the pass switch doesn't switch from dipped to full.
When you operate the button you don't hear any click like a microswitch.
I was thinking I will need to disconnect the wiring connector and see if it bells out or NOT as the case will probably be.
But a heavy squirt of GT85 may help.

Can you get at the contacts. I presume you have to split the switchgear.
But is there access to the switch internals.

FZS600 Fazer / Gear indicator from LEDgear
« on: 05 February 2013, 02:05:40 pm »
Hi,

I have a LEDgear gear indicator fitted, I got it probably 9 years ago.
But the replacement neutral switch is starting to play up.
Does anyone know if Alan (I think that was his name) still does any parts or anyone else take it on from Alan.

His site  www.ledgear.co.uk looks to be off line.

Hi,
Going home last night slowed to allow a car out in front and pressed the pass switch on the left handle switchgear.

No full beam. I had to switch to full beam then off to dipped.

Can this switch be cleaned up or is it a case of having to buy a replacement left hand switchgear.

FZS600 Fazer / Oops testing circuit and blew a fuse.
« on: 07 January 2013, 01:18:46 pm »
Hi,

Classic not thinking and rushing in to quickly test something.
I Tried to test the front brake lever switch wiring this morning.....
Switched electrics on (turn key to ON) and tested back brake, tail lights up.
Tested front brake, no tail light. So...
Pulled off connectors and proceded to put a wire loop in too light the tail light.......

BUT forgot to switch OFF electrics, first. I put the test loop into the +ve first by mistake (not the bulb side) and the other end touched the chrome handlebars....Poof..

As a result, I have NO headlights now. Also tested the back brake, no tail lights. Didn't try indicators walked away and will get back tonight.
So my first question is which fuse will have blown the fuse (head light) or fuse (signal) or a another or all.

I can test the fuse (signal) buy trying the horn as this looks to come off that circuit.
But I am a little stumped as to where the fuse (head light) is situated on the Fazer it's a MY03.

Other than the fuse box which I am a little unsure which is which fuse... I have a Haynes manual and will be looking in that tonight but any help would be appreciated.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Help required my Meta 357T V2 has stopped working
« on: 06 January 2013, 04:31:07 pm »
Hi,

I managed to get the bike started with the two bypass loops of wire.
I put some insulation tape on the two damaged wires. And then put some more insulation tape around the loom.

I started checking out the indicators and lights, all ok. The rear brake operates the brake lights, but the front brake lever doesn't switch on the brake lights.

I found out that the alarm has what is called a decode wire, the brown wire that supplies the feed to the brake light switch is cut and dioded. It says also that a wire no:33 is attached to the switch side of the diode.

I must need to find and fit a 3rd loop, to get the brake light working from the brake lever.

« on: 06 January 2013, 12:08:05 am »
Hi.

I too have a set of pipes from sandy bikespares and presently the same exhaust bracket has a crack in it.

I remembered to cut off and keep the OEM exhaust clamps when I replaced the exhaust a couple of years ago. I too thought to do the same Fazerider has done. I am glad it looks like a good fix. The down side is that you need 2 OEM exhaust clamps to effect a repair to any 1 pipe.

« on: 05 January 2013, 11:52:49 pm »
Hi,

Thank you for your posts regarding the pin out diagram.

I have dismantled the rear of the bike to get to the alarm.

and would you believe what I found is this.

see the attached picture. It shows at least two wires, not sure which ones the damaged ones are when you bell to the wiring harness plug pins, will do that tomorrow.

But it looks like the loom has been chaffing for 9 years on the end of the rear left frame.

Gone through the insulation tape and through the cable insulation.

The bad weather before Christmas must have shorted the wires out.

Maybe this has damaged the alarm.

I am going to find out where the wires go to and repair them then see if this allows the alarm to function.

The alarm is a Meta 357T V2 it's on the label at the back of the alarm module.

Looking at the pin out diagram. What does it mean when it says Loop NR x and NR x.

and then says Do not loop NR x and NR x in AC ignition systems.

What is an AC system.

I am not sure if the alarm will function when damaged wires insulated so I will probably need to buypass the alarm wiring.

In an additional note what is the torque setting for the grab rail bolts and screw holding the rear tail covers on, please. I don;t want to over tighten the bolts and trash the tail pieces.

FZS600 Fazer / Help required my Meta 357T V2 has stopped working
« on: 04 January 2013, 08:51:48 pm »
Hi,
I would like a little help, please.

My meta 357tv2 alarm which was fitted with the bike brand new in 2003, has stopped working.
I have the red key card with the 2 codes.

It looks to be completely shut down no led, indicators do not flash, no beeps nothing. If I disconnect the battery
when reconnect it still doesn't work. The bike has been on an optimate in the garage all over the Christmas period.
The alarm has probably gone into sleep mode but it will not wake up.One thing I did check the fuse all ok, but when I reconnect the fuse the alarm sounder makes a crackle noise. I can only assume the internal battery is low.

Can I measure this voltage from the fuse connector to ground. Could the connector onto the alarm have corroded contacts it is mounted under the tail light bracket.
The connector onto the alarm has what looks like security screws is there two.
What are my options,  :( . I need first to try and get the alarm working or bypassed so I can get it replaced or fixed if it's a corroded connector.

Does anyone have the bypass pin out diagram for the connector so I can bypass.

One other note: The fob batteries are the original not had any problems ever. But aside from the alarm if I changethe fob battery will the fob still be recognised by the alarm.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Spring on the gear selector
« on: 09 May 2012, 12:53:18 pm »
Thanks for the info.

The other spring is in the following picture item:13

http://www.yamahamotorcyclespares.co.uk/spares/epc2.asp?ModelID=9657&pageID=18&m=YAMAHA+FZS600SP+FAZER+SHIFT+CAM%2E+FORK&uid=0

Is this is the "MAIN SELECTOR SPRING".

I will get out the Haynes manual and find the part and see what it says regarding replacing.

The bike changes gear fine no difficulty at all, the clutch cable is definitely stretched I have taken up slack at both ends.
I have a replacement waiting to be fitted.
It's just after changing gear I have to consciously check the gear selector in case it needs another toe up. If there is resistance then I know next time I change gear it will change into the next gear.

FZS600 Fazer / Spring on the gear selector
« on: 08 May 2012, 10:40:08 pm »
I thought I was going potty.

Sometimes when going up the gearbox I change gear and when I want to change up again the foot lever moves as it is supposed to but there is NO gear selected.

Try again and you change gear as normal.
I thought I was going mad but I am not.....
It can happen between 2-3gear 4-5 and even in 6th.

You change gear and then you can move the gear selector as you do when changing gear but no gear is selected.
It's like the spring which returns the lever is getting tired.
Has anyone else come across this and if so what is the fix....

I found the following ....

http://www.yamahamotorcyclespares.co.uk/spares/epc2.asp?ModelID=9657&pageID=19&m=YAMAHA+FZS600SP+FAZER+SHIFT+SHAFT&uid=0

see item 2 listed as spring torsion....

Been looking on the internet and there comments about shift shaft spring problems and people have commented about two springs.

A return spring and a much smaller 'reset spring' on the other side of the gearbox. Could they be getting tired.

Bike is a MY03 with 28k miles on the clock.
Help required.

Hi,
Just been on the www.cmsnl.com website. They don't do the parts for the FZS600 only the FZS1000.
How do you know if the part is compatible for the FZS600.

FZS600 Fazer / transfer Yamaha logo badge
« on: 16 March 2012, 02:39:51 pm »
Hi,

I am about to swap over a damaged fairing with a repaired item purchased on ebay.
I am at a quandary as to how to remove the tuning fork logo badge from the front and transplant it onto the new fairing intact.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

If it's cheaper to buy a new on then so be it but if I can transplant it.
Then it would save me a round trip to the dealer.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Is my battery on it's way out.....
« on: 11 March 2012, 10:49:01 pm »
Hi,

Sorry for the lateness of this extra info.
My multimeter was in error. The 9v PP3 battery in the multimeter needed replacing.
The multimeter WAS over reading.
After replacing with a new PP3 battery.
The bike battery read 12.9v.

I used GT85 and saturated the starter switch and cleaned up the switch and checked some of the connectors under the tank all look ok, sprayed them with ACF-50.

After a good charge on the optimate all seams fine touch wood.

In my opinion running the bike on my 8 mile each way commute with dipped beam and heated grips every day over a week.
Drained the battery enough to cause the symptoms.
Currently I have not needed to used the heated grips but still use the dipped beam and the battery seams to be ok.
with no difficulty starting.

We shall see over the summer if I have any re-occurrance.
Cheers for all your help.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. It's all much appreciated.
I charged the battery on the optimate last night and there were no problems today at all in either direction too and from work.

The bike is on charge again tonight but I will not put it on charge Friday night and do the voltage check Saturday morning.
I will clean the starter button and clean the connectors and grease the battery terminals as advised and then see were we are.
I will get back with the results.
Thanks again for your comments.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Is my battery on it's way out.....
« on: 14 February 2012, 10:30:37 pm »
Hi,

On way home tonight when idling at traffic lights the bike sounded like it was about to stall.
The instruments lit up ;oil light, battery light etc all came on then went off.
A bit of revs sorted everything out.

I do have a digital multimeter but didn't want to get that out just yet. But will do that at the weekend to check voltages.
So when I got home I have a battery and alternator tester like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002V9L700/ref=asc_df_B002V9L7006549713?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B002V9L700

I performed the following tests, with revs is possibly about 3-4k revs.

bike idling lights off                  - the tester show all 6 lights on, both the 3 battery and the 3 alternator test lights.
bike idle dipped lights on           - the tester show only 5 lights on, missing is the strong alternator output 14.0v
bike with revs dipped lights on   - the tester shows all 6 lights on.
bike idle full beam lights on        - the tester shows only 4 lights on, missing is the strong alternator output 14.0v and missing the normal alternator output 13.5v
bike with revs full beam lights on - the tester shows only 5 lights on, missing is the strong alternator output 14.0v

I am assuming that at 6k+ revs the tester would have shown all 6 light on.

I have left the bike in the garage on the optimate to top up the battery.  While at the lights the alternator does not look to be charging the battery fully also the light from the headlights dims when idling.

I will leave the bike off charge Friday night and check the battery voltage again Saturday morning.
I will have a go at cleaning the starter switch over the weekend as well and have a good look for any arcing inside.
The bike is exposed to the elements all day while at work it must take it's toll as well as the fact that I ride all year round.

cheers,
