I would also be interested in this if the above two are not.

Ahh left insert, I knew there was a block somewhere that has caused problems like this. Didn't get time to look today
Kinda scary riding without the speedo and going through a speed trap :P

Speedo seems to have died :(
Not had a chance to have a good poke around yet but did check the connection blocks behind the screen. All look fine, but cleaned them best I could anyway.
Fault is no speedo and the clock resets each time ignition is off.
Fully charged battery and It's in good condition. That's as far as I have got so far.

I have a speedo healer fitted, due to gearing change.
Also a acumen gear indicator. (Make no change when unplugged. Lights up but as it runs partly from speedo not working)
So what blocks to check next?
Think there was one under the right side panel, any more?

Not a straight swap. The later ones have a different plug set up. Mostly down to the later having a different light switch set up.
There may be a way to cut and join but not able to plug and play.
Brought 3 sets in all before I worked out the difference.
Got one from a breaker in the end but did cost me over the odds at 80 quid for a lock set.

Common this time of year, normally caused by not fully heating the oil. Ie short trips.

Hit and miss gamble. It could need a quick simple service and the bolts pop out with ease.... Or it could be a bitch, each bolt sheared like butter and the cables frayed with a bent and jammed valve.

Most can be sorted with a little time, effort and cash.
But it is a gamble on how much of the above it will need.
If in doubt walk away. There are a lot of gen 1's around at cheap money right now as people are moving to cheaper to run bikes.

I had thought about that, but was worried the heat would just burn off the carrier leaving the copper and lossen the plugs even more. Kinda like the use on the exup bolts.

But I can't see it doing any harm either so with nothing to loose and as the best idea so far LOL will give that a shot later when I stick some more new plugs in :)

Nice to know my thought train is along the same lines as yours though. Meens I am likely being more logical than I expected I was :P
Thx

First 1 or 2 times maybe. But since then the heads been cleaned with compressed air and also a stick with rag and grease.
As said been 3 plug changes in all so far 1 set of std ngk then 2 sets of iridium.

Totally stumped me and the garage as to what's going on. Threads are clean, whole and look fine. I'm sure they are stretching threads by now but they look fine and tighten up as expected. Just a 1000 or so miles later the start to lossen again.
Why is a mystery, how to stop it is the problem.

Yup, 2nd time they popped out I used one with the manuals settings.

Even had the threads checked at a dealership and they are ment to be fine.

In the last year or so I have had the outside 2 plugs come lose a few times.
They seem to go about 1000-1500 miles ish then I start hearing a little puff piff sort of sound.
Often able to see the cap rattling as well.

When checking they have worked out about half way. Left more often than the right but both do it.
Tried torque settings, tried the normal finger tight + 1/4 and tried very tight lol
Thread from what I can see looks good condition. Plugs have been swapped out twice with new ones and also tried swapping middle ones to outside ones. Nothing makes a diff, about 1000 miles later It's lose again.

So, I don't want to use a thread lock as it probably isn't a good idea on plugs. But anyone have ideas on how to stop it?
Not the end of the world, takes 5 mins to sort each time. But can't be good when its lose

Cant help on the pic but often the stiffness is down to the movement at the carb end. Lube it up well with spray of your choice.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: How long to service the bike?
« on: 12 September 2013, 09:35:35 pm »
1 .5 is a hell of a lot for C+S , my local garage charges me 20 quid to fit
So that's about 30mins Labour.

Service cost realy depends on what they DO on the service. It's ott for plugs, air filter and oil + filter.
But add in break fluid, lube cables, exup and valves then its good.

2 up on rear peps up the bike without making impossible to control or keep down.
Did it on mine and like it a lot.
But remember it will throw the speedo out. I used a speedo healer but that ain't a cheap mod.

Motobat seems to be the weapon of choice right now.
Love mine, hasn't missed a beat so far and has a much better cca than the varta or Rob H I used before.

« on: 01 September 2013, 10:05:25 pm »
Rear shock isn't man enough IMO (easy fix is R6 mod)
Exup needs to be looked after, ( just needs to be kept up on service once It's sorted)
Rear brake seems to need rebuilding each spring.... But that's because I ride all year.

It's no sport bike in handling but can hold its own on road and track days once your used to it.
I have a Zx6r right now and that's like a 2 stroke up against the fazer LOL but I jump back on the fazer and try to remember I have to muscle it round bends. :P

I hate electric stuff but I would be looking at my earth's
Or maybe a fried spider crawling in the ignition :P j/k

A few garages near me now offer this for an extra 2-3 quid. Claims are wild but one I do belive is less maintenance as less loss. Ok for my van but I check my bike to often to matter.

Very rare my fan kicks in. Had it kick in now and then when doing things like ride of respect where lots of slow riding. But even then it cuts off again quickly.
Gen 1 dont seem to run that hot.

General / Re: Blue side lights, legal? Discuss...
« on: 18 August 2013, 01:52:05 pm »
Not legal, I have blue ones on the fazer 1000 and green on the zx6r. Both could land me a fine if the copper wanted to stick to the rules.
That said I had them on the fazer for 5 years now and other bikes long ago and never had a fine yet.
I know the risk and won't complain if I get caught.

I did the crossover mod with T's and later changed to just pipes.
Initially I noticed a slightly smoother tickover, this didn't change when I went to just pipes.
Since then I have had other mods like ivans and ignition advancer and ais removed. I did go back to the OE way last year and didn't notice a diff.... Maybe it helps unmodded bikes maybe it helps any or maybe its in the mind.
