Car Stereo
« on: 03 May 2013, 04:48:26 pm »
I have an 12 year old astra and am thinking of putting a new stereo in it with cd player so that my 3 year old can listen to music etc, the old one is a tape deck.
Its the original stereo of the type that has a seperate screen further up in the dash, with time, temp and radio station.
My question is if i change the stereo to one with its own screen on the face what happens to the cars in built display, will it work at all, or just time date show etc?
Any ideas would be great.
Thanks
Nick

PS before you tell me get a new car, we can't afford one. :)

Opinions are like A**holes, Everyone has one.  Some people seem to have more than one though which is a bit odd.

How about....

One of them thingys that is wired to a tape shaped cartridge and connects to an mp3 player. Put cartridge in tape slot and BOOYA.

Tiberius I reckon has the right idea to use a converter; no mess, no fuss, and with the original unit being a tape player (rather than CD / MP3), it'll be less attractive to tea-leaves too.

Just fitted a Sony Radio/CD player into an "01 Corsa. The separate screen still shows time and temperature all the time. Date and year show briefly when ignition is turned on but are not displayed permanently. Radio station is displayed on actual head unit.
