For Sale & Wanted / Wanted. One downpipe FZS 1000 Gen 1.
« on: 13 April 2020, 08:53:49 pm »
Anyone got a totally knackered, utterly useless, EXUP/manifold set?  Looking for one downpipe, just butchered off with a grinder or hacksaw?  For research/developement and analytical purposes!  :thumbup

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZS 1000 Headers?
« on: 06 April 2020, 11:31:05 pm »
Just curious about the header downpipes, I know the exhaust flanges and collars are mild steel but what kind of material are the downpipes?  They are often quoted as "stainless steel", but as I am involved in engineering where we use a lot of stainless material, this stuff seems to be as poor as it can possibly get,  Piss poor in fact!  P.S. Anyone know what the pipe wall thickness of these are?

General / RS Paints.
« on: 03 February 2020, 05:04:35 pm »
Got some RS paints, frame touch up bottles.  Metalic black and a bottle of lacquer.  Tried to use the brush on the bottle top! What a load of utter shit!  Found and used an ideal small soft brush.  Question is, what the hell do you was the brush in! I tried everything I could think of but had to bin it!  Expensive but damn good paint though.  :thumbup

Bike now sold! And I didn't buy it, but I would have done if I didn't already have one!  Fact is very good condition low mileage FZS 1000s are becoming rare, they are sought after, simple supply and demand.  The price of good ones will only go up!  Consider trying to restore one to head turning condition.....££££££££££££.

I Know everything looks much better in a photograph.  My bikes always did!  If this is as good as first impressions suggest its a bargain!
Must be one of the best nick FZS 1000s around.

Anyone know the wall thickness of the downpipe tubing?  Just passed the flange collar, only a general idea obviously they will vary where they are bent.  :thumbup

Have you done the usual Harpic Power treatment? That gets them back to a shiny silver colour. Still have to clean and polish them after but makes a bit difference
Ideal!  Thanks, I have the headers removed, do I simply pour it over the downpipes, leave, then wash it off?  Or should I scrub them with a hard brush?  Harpic should at least get the shit off!  :thumbup

Best way to polish the standard downpipes?  They are meant to be stainless but that's a joke surely!

Decision made! I'll not be bothering, present sprockets/chain are fine.  Thanks again.  ;)

« on: 14 November 2019, 04:52:24 pm »
Is the original FZS 1000 front sprocket, (as fitted to the bike when supplied) a silent rubber damped type?  If not, is it worth fitting one?

In the last picture the seat is damp from being wiped down.  Now sold.

Long shot I know,  FZS 1000 Standard seat, MUST be perfect as new, not lowered with it's original cover.

92
Very simple answer to it's value.   A plug and play bike.  If you want an original FZS 1000,  try finding another one in a similar condition/mileage cheaper!  Worth every penny!  ;)

« on: 31 August 2019, 09:08:48 pm »
Thanks again  ;) .  So, as I have access to the required facilities at my paltry paying employment, IE an engineering workshop, would you say a total strip down, thorough clean of everything and rebuilt with new seals?

Well that's good enough for me!  Thanks. Someone on here changed the oil in their forks (FZS 600) after 75,000 miles, they thought it was a waste of time because the oil was so clean!  Obviously a different design.  Next job on the list.

« on: 30 August 2019, 04:32:21 pm »
As my bike will be kept permanently! Question is, should I change my fork oil?  The bike is soon to be 15 years old but only done just over 10,000 miles, as far as I know it has never been done ( I am obviously not the first owner).  If I should change it what viscosity of oil do you think is best , or do I stick to what Yamaha recommends?

Normally a 50/50 mix with deionised water, then use enough for your bike. Can buy di water from Halfords
As I do not know the answer to this is it distilled water or deionised water that is best for the engine?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZS 1000 Seat cover differences?
« on: 05 August 2019, 12:24:23 am »
Believe the 01 to 04 models had the same seat cover, but the 05 was slightly different.  Anyone able to confirm this?  What are the differences?

98
That's ideal!  Many thanks for your trouble! ;) .

Can anyone give me the part number from the very bottom R.H.S. of the sticker.  From an original U.K. bike please.

Use two of these,  Speedi Sleeve's, very thin hardened steel shaft repair sleeve.  Comes with its own fitting dolly and will never wear out,  100 %  reliable repair. https://www.google.com/search?q=Speedi+sleeve&oq=Speedi+sleeve&aqs=chrome..69i57.7272j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8      P.S. The flanged end is slightly undercut so that when fitted this can be torn off.  ;)
