FZS600 Fazer / Carb sync gone bad

Okay, I managed to mess up carb syncing on my 600 I was given an old car sync (vacuum type)... I had a feeling it was not really too accurate. It's the type with the funny plastic taps that adjust vacuum flow; I used one ages ago and it was not too bad. With this one it was either very temperamental, or not responsive enough. I don't know why but I thought I'll give it a go anyway... now it's worse than it was.
The question is: is it worth buying a new set of these vacuum-gage ones or should I go for Carbtune straight away. Also, it sounds a bit worse now, and my clutch rattle got worse too can I still ride it or could this cause damage? I need to get to work, and if it's for the sake of the Fazer... I can take a bus for a day or two
Thanks : )
