FZS600 Fazer / Carb sync gone bad
« on: 26 October 2015, 10:47:52 pm »
Okay, I managed to mess up carb syncing on my 600 :( I was given an old car sync (vacuum type)... I had a feeling it was not really too accurate. It's the type with the funny plastic taps that adjust vacuum flow; I used one ages ago and it was not too bad. With this one it was either very temperamental, or not responsive enough. I don't know why but I thought  :evil I'll give it a go anyway... now it's worse than it was.

The question is: is it worth buying a new set of these vacuum-gage ones or should I go for Carbtune straight away. Also, it sounds a bit worse now, and my clutch rattle got worse too :( can I still ride it or could this cause damage? I need to get to work, and if it's for the sake of the Fazer... I can take a bus for a day or two  :rollin

Thanks : )

 :rollin

*changed front sprocket nut to upgrade (Yamaha kit and only 2.44 sQuid) -made my own gasket as the asking price form Yamaha was just silly, especially that one can do without. Next time I'll just use sealant. Oh took forever to clean cover...

* adjust headlight beam as with the way it was set I was becoming less and less popular : )

*put a baffle in my Black Widow

* had 3-day 'go' at back brake bleeding... GOD.. still not what I want... Hope it passes MOT. I will have to go back to that...

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. I will probably go for the swap once I can source a nice pair; the ones I had in mind did have some pitting so I let them go  8)

I will stick to what I've got until they start causing problems as right now there are no leaks  :lol

It's great to have a confirmation of the ease of fitment; yet still, would you go for a change or rechrome? Have you had any experience with rechroming; most workshops say that the reconditioned part will last a lot longer than stock, can anyone confirm or challenge?

Thanks!

But on another note, why don't you just get them rechromed/plated?

mhm I have considered that. I can get a pair of used forks (seems no rust/pitting/leaks) for about £150 -which is about the cost of rechroming. Not sure what would be better. I am probably just paranoid... but have that nasty feeling that I will send them away, they will come back, and something wont work :P What would you guys suggest?

Hi and thanks for replying,

read a couple of posts here on the forum and seems like it's okay to go ahead... but as they say it does not hurt to ask.
I am looking at swapping my old rusty 2002 forks with a pair of nice 1999 ones : ) I know I will lose the adjusters, but I am not too bothered about that. My stanchions are rusty and peeling (above compression level but I fear it will go down, I will use the bike daily throughout winter). Are there any issues I should be aware of or is it a simple swap.

Thanks  :)
