Weyyyy..nice one Deefer......& opinions havent really changed since then it seems.on some good blasts with my old man on his FZ6 the difference doesnt seem to be quite as big as on paper & when he was leaving me it was more down to his experience than the bike i reckon. :\

I've been doing some internet searching on the old TRX 850 & it seems to be all about low down grunt so now i have low, mid & high range to contemplate in my thick skull.

So maybe i'm just getting a bit too used to old FZS but sometimes 3rd gear just seems like it could have a little bit more grunt & it is usually my overtaking gear so perhaps this low down power is what i need.or a change of sprockets for more accelaration.

I dunno.....what i do know is that ive discounted the MT09 after a visit to a stealers today....a bit small & didnt excite me to look at.....sat on a fireblade...nah.......fazer8 was just a bit dull (sorry fazer8 guys) & i didnt even look at the R1 & think wow i must have one.

I did like the CB1300, didnt actually feel all that heavy but for scratching it's a bit big surely.

Nah....keep the FZS.....& maybe get a TRX if i can ever find a mint one. 8)

I had a TRX, Very grunty but could do with a bit more top end power although on a twisty back road you would have to be very determined to get past one

Sounds just up my street Deefer.

We dont have many main roads here in wales.

Something light & flickable that can do a tonne is pretty much all that is required.

They seem pretty rare though so i'll have to wait a while to find a good un.

Cheers.

Tdm's get a good write up and is actually what I was looking for before I got the fazer 600.

Same engine as the trx

Ye & i've read stuff about how the tdm is a sportsbike eater on back roads & well.....roads with imperfections i suppose....read most of britain  :\

But i've also read about folk saying the tdm is too boring.

So perhaps the tdm engine & sports chassis of the trx is the perfect mix of the 2.

A question for Deefer...mechanical stuff- do twins generally or significantly end their lifes sooner than 4 cylinders......with the power and wear distributed only between the 2 cylinders????.....i dunno whats the most wearing...the less cylinders on a twin or the higher revs on more cylinders of a triple or 4....or 6 for that matter......is it like a heart whereby all things get the same number of beats (revs) ????

Well, I'm trying the fazer after not enjoying the riding position of the zx7r (used for commuting, track days and touring) and missing my er6 and, more specifically, is riding position, it was just lacking that wee bit power at times; it could keep up, but had nothing in reserve.

Was going for the tdm as love the engine characteristics of the twin, but love the sound of the inline 4.

Will run the fazer due a wee while and maybe upgrade to a z750 or Aprilia Shiver

Tdm a sportsbike eater? Not the one I had. Soggy suspension and  lethargic engine! Had mine for less than 3 months and couldn't wait to get rid of it!
Good for distance work, but too 'boring' for serious use on the back roads. That engine revs a bit square, not really peaking much, and could do with wilder cams.

Seriously, stick with the fazer, a much better all rounder!
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

I thought the fastest bike up Pike's Peak is a Ducati Multistrada - says it all.
Those are my principles...if you don't like them I have others.

In all honesty?
I owned a '95 VFR750 ages ago and I've never had as much fun on a bike, or had one that just seemed to "fit" so nicely. Not just seating/comfort wise but a machine that was happy doing anything.
I always find myself every couple of months, scouring the small ads and ebay, seeing what's out there. If I ever get rid of my beloved Imelda for another bike, it'll more'n likely be one of those!

Did it look a bit like this one? :)  I had this for about three months ten years ago, if I remember correctly it was a 94-ish. It only had 2400 miles on it and was mint! Only slight problem was that I couldn't get on with clip-ons - too low for vision for me and killed my wrists. I sold it on for a profit to a bloke at work.

I have never ridden anything with such sweet handling, it was awesome :)

If I remember correctly they don't allow fully faired bikes to race up Pikes Peak, so no sports bikes racing.

Also the fastest two wheeler is actually an electric bike from last year. They don't lose power as they climb due to less oxygen in the air.

Nah Wookee, that's the pre-94 model. And mine was a red one!
Maybe that's why it was so good?
