FZS600 Fazer / One thing after another!!!
« on: 11 June 2014, 09:27:06 am »
Hello everyone,

I am having problems with my fazer, after arriving at work today the radiator is leeking from the fins. I have looked at the price for a new one (£150) and therefore want a bit of advice....
Do I bite the bullet and buy a new one or look at getting it repaired or try a small amount of radweld and see if that works?

Problem two is I also need a speed sensor unit, so if anyone has a second hand one available I would be willing to pay :)

Cheers in advance!!

FZS600 Fazer / Need another speed sensor cable....again!
« on: 24 March 2014, 05:06:29 pm »
Hi everyone,

I am wondering if anyone has a speed sensor cable for my '51' plate Fazer, this is the second time it has gone...I am presuming it is the same problem as before hence why I am after a new cable.

Any offers / suggestions would be really appreciated!

Cheers,

Will

Just to confirm, the speed sensor cable solved the problem. So if you do get funny readings from your speedo and rev count it may be worth looking at replacing the cable and not just the ceramic disk at the front wheel. Happy to have it sorted now though apart from the bill!!

Cheers

Hello Everyone,

Thank you to Fuzzy summing it up pretty well. The bike is currently in the garage and the ceramic is not broken, I have been advised by the mechanic that after looking at the bike, everything points towards the speed sensor. The speedo does not work atall and like mentioned by Fuzzy the rev reading dies when near the redline. The seems to be no running problems with the bike itself...(as far as im aware). When the rev reading dies i have to turn the ignition off then back on whilst going along which resets it and then works fine again.

Thank you for your help people!

FZS600 Fazer / Earth points
« on: 09 December 2013, 04:30:13 pm »
Hello everyone,

Haven't posted on here for a while; now that the bike is away for the winter I am trying to sort an electrical problem which is that the speedo is not working and the rev gauge dies when you go above 10,000 RPM, if I turn the ignition off and immediately back on whilst riding it solves the rev problem however the speedo is consistently not working. All of this has resulted in the head unit fuse actually melting two times.

I found the previous owner fitted a make shift wire connecting both front lights which is a bit suspicious and think this may be related to the current problem.
All other electricals work perfectly fine as far as I am aware.
Can anyone tell me where the earth points are please? I have checked the main one running from the battery down to the engine.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I would much rather sort it myself than ask a garage to do so!!

Many thanks!!!

Will

Ah i see, snapped lugs as in the ones on the front wheel speed sensor? Ive had it out and it looks fine so put it back...was a nightmare trying to get it back together. With the speedo not working and the rev count fluctuating the head unit 20 amp fuse is getting very hot and melting...I have got some fine wet and dry sandpaper and electrical cleaner and plan to clean the fuse slots tonight which....hopefully will solve the problem!!

I am having the same issue with my bike at the moment, going along when accelerating the rev count will go to 0 then sit around the 4000rpm mark and the speedo is also playing up. Being new to motorbiking and not knowing too much about electrics what does TPS mean?

Hello,

The lights are standard as far as i am aware, havent changed anything regarding the lights since ive had it. I will check the fuse holder itself tonight and give it a clean ect.
The fuse is not breaking it is just the plastic which is melting, took the earth lead off last night and cleaned it up and still no good......i hate electrics!!
Are there any other earths which would be worth checking apart from the main one coming off the negative side of the battery?

Helllo everyone,

I have a problem with the fazer...its melting the head unit fuse the middle one (20amp). The speedo is not working and the rev gauge is intemittant. I have been advised that it is shorting out somewhere and to check the earths? However I cannot find the earths...probably me being stupid!
Please could anyone advise / suggest where to look ect?

Many thanks!!

FZS600 Fazer / Speedometer not working/fluctuating
« on: 02 June 2013, 10:39:48 pm »
Hello everyone, your help would be massively appreciated once again..
my year 2000 fazers speedometer has stopped working, all of a sudden its packed in. I have checked the fuse box and the head fuse has melted which i guess suggests a short somewhere. I have replaced the fuse and the speedo still does not work but occasionally fluctuates for a few seconds at a time whilst i'm riding but never gives a consistent speed. Any help would be really appreciated!

Cheers,

Will

Hello all, I guess your all the same as me...sick with this awful weather.
Whilst doing a few bits to the bike today, the black plastic cover (opposite side to the seat release) split where you screw it on, just wondering if anyone has a suggestion where to get a replacement from or if anyone has one nocking about?
Cheers,
Will

That's very interesting, cheers for the decent information! The Severn bridge is a must and we haven't really got a time limit its just money....being a final year student money isn't what I would call flowing! The idea of starting of and heading into South Wales then have a ride up to Betws-y-coed sounds ideal I'm just hoping the weather by then is reasonable ! Cheers again!

FZS600 Fazer / Trip to Wales
« on: 04 February 2013, 05:30:07 pm »
Hi all,
Myself and 2 mates (laverda ghost strike and an ER6) are thinking of going to Wales on the bikes over Easter for a couple of nights as I'm back from uni, only had my fazer since Christmas time so it's my first trip further than 20/30 miles, were in Oxfordshire so it would be South Wales, does anyone have any recommendations of where to go/ stay?
Cheers

Cheers for the help people! That's crazy £70! Knowing that now ill just carry what I have from the picture! Being away at university and only having my fazer since New Year this weekend is the first chance I've had to work on the bike, so spending my Saturday changing the oil & filter which I'm actually looking forward to doing as sad as it sounds !!

Hello everyone,
My fazer has not got a toolkit under the seat, can anyone tell me what the kit contains and wether its worth buying an official one , if so where to get it from, or just carrying the usual tools?
Cheers, Will

Hello Lazarus, do you still have the owners manual? I am very interested if you do! I bought my fazer over Christmas and it didn't come with a manual!

Bike mileage is 19,000 I've decided to just leave it until there are performance issues! Thank you everyone for your help!
France in September is going to be northern as we've only got a week, starting to look for luggage and looking at the Oxford first paniers any word what there like?
Cheers

That's the one in the picture! Thanks again for helping! There is a group of 5 of us now planning a trip to France in September! I have noticed another thing with the bike, the carb rubber boots have surface splits in then but not the whole way through, is this a common thing? I did just check how much they would be to replace and someone on eBay wants £140 for four rubber carb boots!!

Thank you everyone, I have established it is a 2000 model registered in 2001, thank you for your help!! One more thing...again it may sound silly but is it worth putting some of that redex stuff Just because it says it cleans carbs?
Thanks
