I live in Sittingbourne for my sins, have lived there all my life (I must have done something really bad in a past life!)  I keep meaning to get to the speedway to watch, didn't know you can do track days, how much was it?

I read on here about needing T handled flexible socket but I tried the one that comes with the tool kit and it was fine for all the plugs.

Don't forget to blow all the dirt and crap out from around the plug before you unscrew it.  :)

I agree "BTBM" I commute everyday and I do miss the power to blast round traffic, I'd rather have a quick bottom end than a quicker top end, I have my moments of going quick in a straight line but I use the quick acceleration of the bike a lot more than I do top end speed.

Just phoned the garage and they are going to "look into it", I don't think he was best pleased I was complaining but at the end of the day I asked them to fit chain and sprockets and I don't think it's wrong to expect the correct ones to be fitted.

I love all sorts of music, one minute I can listen to Prodigy, then the next album could be 16th century renaissance music by messers Byrd and Tallis and the next could Iron Maiden, depends on my mood really.

I sing in a choral society and love choral music.

If you like Queen try this, some of it is a bit heavy, but the adagio (slow movement) which is essentially "who wants to live for ever" is beautiful.  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kashif-Queen-Symphony-Tolga/dp/B00006JC6Q

Have to agree about the  "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis" it's a nice piece.

Try this too Morten Lauridsen - O Magnum Mysterium it's a choral piece and gives me goose bumps every time.

Another modern composer who does beautiful choral work is Eric Whitacre, check out his "virtual choir" performing "sleep" on Youtube.

A lot of film music is a good way to get into classical music, John Williams and John Barry have both written some lovely music for films.

Thanks for all the comments, I had a look this weekend when I was checking the bike over and I have 16 on the front and 49 on the rear, looks like it's not a standard sprocket set.  This would explain the slower acceleration.

The bike is still quick, but it's not hold on tight and grin quick, I'm in 2 minds about asking the garage to put standard ones on (which I thought they would have done in the first place).  It's not the end of the world and the bike is still quick, it's just a case of do I want the hastle of changing for the big grin......

1983 - Y reg VW Polo 1 litre, black.  I put a new stereo and parcel shelf mounted speakers in her and wired up a CB radio with an aerial attached to the roof gutter.

We did many miles together visting friends at various Unis and some travel for work plus traveling around away for football, it was the start of my freedom.

I live in Kent and we went to Cornwall, York, Lake district, Derby, Peak District, Manchester, Ipswich, Leeds, Silverstone for the British GP....

I remember almost getting stuck up Wrynose and Pass in the Lake District one february when I decided to pull over and admire the view.  The hand brake hardly held and when I got back to start the car all the petrol had gone south and as darkness was starting to fall, along with the snow my car just about coughed and splutterd into life after several minutes of trying.  8)

Happy memories :-)

FZS600 Fazer / sprockets

As some of you know from a thread further down the page I had my chain and sprockets changed last week, since then I've noticed that I don't have the same insane accelleration in lower gears that I had before and that where 70mph was always 6000 rpm it's now 5500 rpm.

I'm assuming that the bike has had either a bigger front sprocket, bigger rear or both fitted.  I've spoken the the garage that did the work and they said they just took the old ones off and put news ones on and didn't compare.  The chain is a DID chain and the sprockets are not Yamaha, just ones my local garage picked for the bike, when I spoke to them I asked if they were the correct ones for my bike and they said yes (I see no reason why they would lie) They did offer to change them if there was a problem.

I'm guessing that the sprockets they took off we not correct and were geared lower.

Should I be concerned?  It's a shame I'm not as quick when it comes to nipping round vehicles but I'm hardly slow.

Could this sprocket change affect anything else on the bike?

Is 5500rpm what everyone elses' bike is doing (using standard sprocket) at 70mph?

Cheers

To beat the midge you need Avon - "Skin so soft" moisturising spray, keeps the midge away and gives you oh so lovely soft and moisturised skin!  :D

I commute daily and I was finding that my ears were ringing after every journey, I bought a trial pack from LucyDellEarplugs and it had 20 or so of their most popular ones.  I tried each pair for a week (unless they were instantly bad) and kept notes.  I then narrowed them down to a couple and wore them a day at a time before choosing the right pair for me, then bought a job lot, think it's was £10 for 50, I use a new pair each week.

I wouldn't ride without them, they cut out all the high end engine noise, I mainly just hear my exhaust, so I know how the engine is revving.  If I ride without them it sounds like my engine is falling apart LOL

« on: 03 October 2011, 09:27:25 am »
I'd been having an increasing knocking noise from the front sprocket area on my FZS600. Took a peak last weekend, and front sprocket was very warn. Had new chain and sprockets fitted today - now no noise and like a completely different bike. Mechanic gave me the technical term to describe the front sprocket... 'shagged'.

Yep, this is pretty much exactly as it was for me in the end.  I bit the bullet and booked the bike in last Friday, a new chain and sprokets later and my bike is like a new bike!   :D

I'm a mega skint now though!  :\

Thanks for all the replies.

Hi Simon,

I do have a go on some things on the bike, I've replaced my rear brake pads, changed the oil and filter, balanced the carbs, but I don't have the greatest confidence and I need the bike every day to get to work so time is always against me, especially if I hit any problems or something I'm not sure about.  I did think about having a go myself, I've got a friend who rides and looks after his own bikes who has said he will help, I may well do this.

The noise does stop when I pull in the clutch or roll off the power.

I know about the sprocket nut, I've read up about this and plan to get mine changed as matter of course anyway, I was planning on ordering the part this week :-)

Looks like it's bite the bullet time and pay out for a chain and sprocket, not sure what else it can be and it's certainly getting worse over the past 3 weeks from when I first noticed it.

Thanks for the advice :-)

FZS600 Fazer / Knocking noise - continued from thread on old site
« on: 28 September 2011, 08:55:55 am »
I haven't as yet had a good look at all the chain but I will do that one evening this week.
The sound is getting more frequent and I now hear it all the time in 1st and 2nd gear and sometimes in 3rd.  The one thing I have noticed, if I roll off the throttle or dip the clutch the noise stops.  Is this consistent with a stiff link or dodgy chain and sprockets?  I know the chain is turning all the time the wheels are but I'm guessing the extra load when the power is on is what causes the knocking?
I was hoping the noise would just dissappear (no such luck) because I can't really afford a chain and sprocket change at the mo, but the bike gets me to work, so if it needs doing it needs doing.
I see Griff86 says to go genuine Yamaha parts but does anyone have any other feelings on this issue?  Are there any chains/sprockets that I should definitely avoid?  What is a good price for a genuine sprocket and chain set?  the local stealer has said £170 for parts plus an hour's labour.
