Front brake light switch
« on: 09 June 2012, 11:27:00 am »
I found out yesterday that my brake light doesn't come on until the lever is a significant distance in (i.e already braking)

Haynes manual says this switch isn't adjustable but I was wondering if anyone's given it a go?

If not, I'd have a look at yours too, don't want to be braking without telling the idiots behind you :)

it could be that the switch is sticking, then after a second or 2 the plunger pops out, might be worth spraying some silicone spray into the plunger hole

Thanks Solorider, I'll give that a go when it's not raining :)

Not sure I'll bother with the new one, now I know it happens, I'll just dab a bit of rear brake if there's someone up my arse :)

rjd, yeah, I'm more an engine braking man, so mechanical braking is never very harsh, as such I prefer to use the front brake, much more feel :) (although obviously I'll use rear brake in emergency situations/ pillions/ etc.)

Just thought I'd put it out on the forum, other members might wanna check as I've never seen anything about it on here and wasn't sure if they all do that, only having one fazer to hand!

hmm i did a reply here yesterday but it didnt show up lol

I had the same problem on a 125 my daughter had, the switch wouldnt activate untill you were allready slowing down.
I solved the problem with a blob of hot melt gule on the end of the plunger then sanding it to shape. this basicly made the plunger longer. it lasted the 3 months we kept the bike for, no idea how long it lasted after that but it looked ok when we sold it.
