FZS600 Fazer / Re: ULEZ alternative bike
« on: 09 August 2018, 10:32:07 pm »
In same boat, but I commute daily to London Bridge, so I'm stuffed from this coming April. :-(

Steeeve66: are you sure the FZS1000 is exempt from ULEZ? Thought it was too old, and only the FZ1 was good.

I've been looking at just grabbing a cheap FZ6 S2, maybe an FZ8, or even a Honda CBF600, CB600F Hornet, or Suzuki SV650 k9. It'll be my commuter hack and weekend fun, so needs to be cheap to run, not too precious as it'll have the odd scrape in town, but still fun when off work.

My mistake - FZS isn't exempt...

I'm in the same boat, so to speak, with my CB500 - which I use to commute. My FZS1000 is OK to use I think but it's too big to head to London Bridge on a daily basis.
I was seriously thinking of a T-Max or Burgman..

..should I hang my head in shame?

A good heads up on the camera on the other side of the road catching you.Another one is the overhead gantry's on M- ways if you are going along at 70 and see the sign ahead saying 60- or whatever, make sure you are doing the indicated speed when you pass under it. I saw a car get flashed at the first gantry with the 60 sign lit up. I say this because when I am in the car and see the 60 sign I don't usually brake but just let off the gas and let the car slow naturally so I am maybe doing still doing 65 -66 when I pass under but very shortly after I will be at 60, but will from now on make sure I am at the correct speed as I pass under.

The only person I've ever seen going through those variables observing the speed limit is myself.

In my experience virtually no one makes any attempt to slow down to the displayed speed. Maybe the 40mph ones a bit, but not the others.

I'd always assumed that they know something I don't.

Normally when you take you're foot of the gas, the bloke behind nearly runs into the back of you before swerving into the next lane in order to proceed as normal.

Just following the '..assumed that they know something I don't' - two years ago the A2 out of London was fitted with average speed cameras and still, two years later, I get past by both cars and bikes doing a whole heap more than the 50 limit?

Ditto the gantry variables on the M25 - it's like me and one Nissan Micra slow to the correct speed while every Merc and his bastad BMW scream passed, apparently knowing something I don't... ?%*!

Possible lucky escape as I ALWAYS do around 80 on the A303.. (Doesn't everyone??)

No.

you're right - just about everyone else goes quite a bit faster.

I use that road a lot to visit my parents in Devon, a worry - what section was the camera on? And when did this happen? I only ask as I was visiting the folks last week but, as the weather was so nice, came home on the A30 instead... Possible lucky escape as I ALWAYS do around 80 on the A303.. (Doesn't everyone??)

My Gen1 has started to 'eat' more oil lately, it used to munch through around 100ml every 1k to 2k miles or so but I think it's started to get through more now..

Is this normal for 35k miler? What's everyone else's experience?

All this time running a Gen1 Fazer and I didn't know the exup cables were same length... I'd just always assumed one was longer than the other.  :rolleyes

Swapped them at the valve, all good now.

Many thanks!

Hopefully the pic has up loaded...

Hi All,
Struggling with my exup - i had to take it all apart (including taking the servo out) and, when I reassembled it I cant seem to get the valve ti line up. The top (silver) cable is as extended as it will go, the lower (black) cable is short (if I open the adjuster any further it comes apart...). Top (silver cable goes over the top of the servo wheel, bottom (black) goes under. All cables and cable sleeves seated and routed correctly etc.

Any help gratefully received...

Mine does.

..doesn't appear to mention where the cables go on the servo motor - but I assume the 'silver' on the top of the pulley also goes at the top on the servo?

Really sad news, read about it this morning. So sad for his family, terrible news.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Numpty exup question..
« on: 08 July 2018, 10:21:58 am »
Took exup cables off bike as part of a major re-furb... Thinking I'd remember where everything went when I put it back together...

Does the 'silver' cable at the top of the pulley on the exhaust go to the top of the servo motor wheel?

That's right isn't it? The 'black' cable at the bottom of the pulley routes to the bottom of the servo wheel...?

And... When the switch the ignition on should the servo go through a push and pull cycle? Mine seems only to pull the top ('silver') cable - there's no 7k error on the clocks..

And can someone tell me why, after 10 years of ownership, I seem to have forgotten all this... Haahaa!

Cheers,
Steve

Bit late to the party as I've been away for a few days, but HM Racing in Edenbridge is the place to go. On the right behind the Vauxhall dealership. They are the dogsxxxx.

A lot will depend on how old you are, plus general levels of fitness and, alas, just how lucky you were with your genes - some people 'repair' better than others. Hand and foot injuries are notoriously problematic but not impossible, given time and will you should def be riding again sometime. Just take it slowly, listen to what your body (and physio) tells you.

as we thought looks like a no goer they want 357 million of the welsh government. lol

Sad news but are you really surprised? plenty of circuits in the UK all wanting to grab the same limited number of big ticket events? sorry to say i never thought they'd pull it off.

Dovi was shouting and gesturing at Iannoni before he'd even ground to a halt in the gravel.. my guess is the shouting will only have continued back in the paddock? Assuming he had enough energy after pushing his Duc the remainder of the race?
Poor Redding though..

i had a similar prob which turned out to be the fuel pump - I tried everything to solve it but got nowhere until I read about Bike magazine's FZR they raced at the Isle of Man a couple of years back. They did the same (tried everything) until finally swapping the fuel pump with a unit from an R1, the problem was solved. Not a cheap item (200 odd quid i think?) so make sure you eliminate everything else first..

noticed Elephant & Castle appears to have claimed it's first victim recently - it's only been up and running for a few weeks. It's terrible, heading south on the A2 is appalling.. who gets to decide these things?

Thats shite news, really sorry to hear it. Where abouts was it? I leave my commuter bike in London all the time, often with stuff in the top box when I'm out with friends.. Bit worried now - like you, I just assumed no one ever bothered breaking in to them?
