I was planning taking the bike out tonight, alas after a hard day at work was so tired there was no chance on taking the bike out the shed, and doing a charity car wash tomorrow so that knocks that on the head, hope it stays for Sunday, not likely.

If the calipers are sticky I'm afraid there is only one cure for it, the calipers need to be stripped and cleaned, in my opinion squirting brake cleaner is no replacement for a good clean and coat of red rubber grease.

« on: 17 March 2017, 10:38:52 pm »
I saw somewhere someone using a 2 litre coke bottle cut to fit the piston rings and split, then clamped over the piston rings using cable ties, once the pistons were in the bores cut the cable ties,  job done.

Did you clean out the groove the seal sits in, sometimes the aluminium corrodes under the seal and tightens it against the piston which in turn gives a bit of brake drag.

I would take the wheels off and get someone to pull the handbrake off and on, make sure when the handbrake levers on the calipers go all the way off when the brake is released, if not it could be a sticky cable or caliper, if all is good there remove the pads and make sure they are free in the brackets. A slight adjustment on the cable once thats done may also help.

I would pull out the spark plugs and have a look at them, they may show something like oil/water deposits.

I have a bt intercom headset, it is quite good but not loud if you have loud pipes don't buy this one, a good point on this one is you can buy a helmet kit for about a fiver, this means you can swap the main unit from helmet to helmet without changing all the gubbins, me and the bro in law had a magic laugh on our Northern trip with these, they have a good 500metre range as well.

On the cage mot site I can change from MPH to KPH at the click of a button, it would be the same for bikes, had a look on the inspection manual but no word in it for either format so can't see it being a problem.

« on: 22 November 2016, 08:16:00 pm »
tell them in the crash your head was ripped of and had to be sewn back on. :D

Thats the one I usually use or I ask for which accident in which vehicle as I have had 3 the first is the one above the 2nd one I lost a leg in a minor car park bump and then in the 3rd I died, for some reason they usually hang up after that I can't think why.

It's like those bastards that ring you up to tell you that you've been in an accident, what the fuck is all that about???

I keep getting them call me on my work phone. I know its all bollix as I never give that number to anyone. When they call I turn the conversation round.

OK, so what's my name? They usually get that wrong.
If they do get the name then its "Which accident are you referring to? I have been in three recently". I haven't but that usually stumps them.
If I don't use the which accident question, its OK, what reg number and address do you have? They can never answer this as the insurance companies don't provide that data to them.

These ambulance chasing companies are bastards. The Insurance companies are worse though as they are the ones that sell (yes sell) lists of accident victims to them as another revenue stream.

When I get these twats I usually keep them going for a while, I then ask them if it was the accident I was killed in they are on about, that usually gets rid of them. The computer ones I usually keep going for ten minutes then tell them they are scammers and anything they say I reply with "scammer" they don't usually stay on the line  long after that, as a side note I have noticed if I have to call BT for any broadband or line problems I always have Keith or Brian on the phone with the your computer is showing problems routine, I often think someone in BT is passing on your details to his cousin.

Can you not look at the mot history on the .gov website, it will give you all the previous mileages on any mots registered on the system.

Does the bike creep with the clutch pulled in and the brakes off, try knocking the bike into neutral  and see if it still does it,  could it be clutch needing adjusted.

I would get the live data checked before replacing the cat, the diesel my have affected one of the oxygen sensors causing the code, is there any other codes? if you do a general check of that code it mentions the cat being clogged by oil, I dunno if the diesel would do the same, we had an old style corsa come in with the check engine light on, someone told us to remove the oxygen sensors an give them a good rub/clean on a wire brush then dip them in brake fluid, that did the trick (not that I'm saying that would work in this case). What type of car is it, try a quick google with the code and make / model.

Dunno why the tester would not tell you about the brake failure, but that fail would be generated from the computer when the brake results were added at the start of the test paperwork. Apart from adding different results the tester has no input on that one.

It is a handy site though:

www.ukvehicle.com/car-check/

I always use mot history checker on the .gov site, its excellent. The garages doing MOTS don't have a percentage of fails or passes to work to so why this one did this is a mystery, they maybe have a lot of passes and just bung in a fail now and again to put the man from the DVSA off their arses.

I made (bodged) a couple up when I had my FZ6, it took a we bit of time to do but I'm sure if you went to a local engineering firm they could make new side brackets quite cheaply, I will try and find pictues of mine and post them up for you.

My workmate has just been given a 600 Bandit that has sat outside for 5 years, it looked all green and yucky like that, its amazing what a rub over with t cut and autosol can to to a bike, he has got it moted and on the road for under £170 mind you it didn't have any body work damage. Wish I could get a project like this for free.

We had a Lexmoto breakdown outside our work last week, the chain had snapped, the bike was only showing 7500 miles and the chain was coated in lube, luckily the female riding it was in the town as it could have locked the wheel and thrown her off, she said she had had nothing but trouble with the bike since she bought it brand new.
