I’d also take a puncture repair kit but not mandatory.

Yes, I have one of these. Thanks

Hiya peeps, I'm hoping to take my bike to France soon for 5 days of just riding around. What do I need to take and what in your opinions is an essential take. The law seem to change regularly so what do I need to take legally? Hi viz, breathalyser?

I had to stop over at Berwick upon Tweed's finest Traveling to dry my kit and wipe my tears. FOC me that was hard going today. Apparently the local BBC weather man reckoned they had 70 odd millimetres of rain today. Most of it on me

I've just bought a Schuberth C4 pro with the advanced SC1. FOC me that was pricey. Interest free from Infinity. It's quieter than my Arai but I still wear ear plugs

My coolant expansion tank is nearly empty but the radiator is full. Is there a problem? Can i just fill the tank via the filler or leave it?

A busy week fettling my Thou'. New 023's on. Finally fitted the lamb skin seat cover and a cigar lighter socket and double USB thingy on the handle bars. Not sure whether I like it there though. I also changed the fuel filter although I don't think I needed too as the old one was clean inside as shown in picture. Another needed to do job was get the center stand repaired, it had rusted through.

Last week i fitted the Ventura tail pack I bought several years ago. Changed spark plugs, with the help of Justy1000. God bless him. I think they were the original ones and the bike has done over 45,000. No issues with the old plugs but wanted the piece of mind of new ones with my upcoming trip to Scotland. Also did an oil and filter change and cleaned the K+N air filter. I've bought a fuel filter which I'll replace as soon as it arrives and new tyres in a week or 2 once funds allow.

Well I bought the 12v socket that Dude put up but I might just buy the one Mick put up too as It has super fast charging which my phone prefers. What about power packs? Handy to have a little bit of power when the engine is off

So what are you guys using to charge your phone's on your bike? Preferably near the handle bars so I can use it as a twat nav. Plus a charger for a camera battery?
I've looked at the older threads on here but none of the links seem to work anymore so some fresh links would be great too

Have you got a date that you're going Mickvp? I'm doing similar in June, hoping to stay at Camping and Caravan sites. My journey starts near Portsmouth so I'll be properly focced by the time I get to the Bonny land. I toured Scotland with my wife and 2 dogs last year in our campervan but this time I'm on my own and under canvas, or the synthetic equivalent.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZS 1000 height
« on: 09 May 2019, 04:40:51 pm »
I have a Fazer 1000 with R1 forks and an R6 shock. I've got the dog bones that Luke supplied with the shock to keep the standard height. My question is, how much lower would the bike be with the standard bones back on and how much would i need to drop the forks through the yolks to even out the height and do you think this will effect the handling of the bike. I'm going to be do a lot more touring on the bike and as I'm a short arse I was hoping to pad out the seat a bit more. I normally like to ride with a bit of spirit and have dragged the pegs a few times but I'm not planning on riding like this with my tent and all my camping crap on the back. Your thoughts and suggestions are always valued and Thanks in advance.

Ahead of this summer's touring I've decided to get down and dirty and clean the crud around the front sprocket. I got carried away and took the swinging arm off and re-greased the suspension linkages too.

General / Spark plugs
« on: 03 May 2019, 05:13:16 pm »
I'm going to change my plugs soon as they've done 45k and I'm doing a lot of touring this year so thought it would be best to change them whilst doing a service. My worry is counterfeit plugs. I've seen some Iridium one for under £30 and the same in the mid £50's. Do I buy the dear one and expect them to be kosher or risk the cheaper ones?

Sorry, all the Renthals I've had have the numbers etched into them.  Do yours have a brace - they could be non-street bars
I found the inscription on the bars and mine are 758's. Maybe I'll try 754's

I think the risers off the replacement FZ1 are about 75mm high, tho not sure if the distancing apart is the same as the early bike. Also, I switched from Renthal 758s to 754s and they seem to be a little bit taller too.
Hey Kebab, I have Renthal bars on my bike but not sure what type. Do you know if there is any info on the bars as to what type they might be?
Thanks, Mickey

« on: 04 April 2019, 04:34:06 pm »
I did this mod last year and bought the tube from WEMOTO and it was under £25 delivered and was a genuine Yamaha part. So glad i changed. Don't listen to those that say it'll make it unrideable as you'll be used to it in minutes.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Longer Bar risers
« on: 03 April 2019, 07:58:51 pm »
My bike has the R1 forks and top yoke and also Renthal bars but over the last year or so an old shoulder injury has made riding a lot harder. I'm thinking that some higher risers would help sort my problems. Does anyone know of a longer version than the standard risers and maybe put up a link please?

I recently took a S1000R and a S1000RR out for a test ride and was blown away by them both. The R was amazing and I would love one but for the fact I'm thinking of going smaller engine wise and a Street triple is more on my radar. The RR made me feel like i could conquer the TT, It's such an amazing piece of machinery. Funnily enough, my Gen 1 didn't feel as bad as i thought it would afterwards, which surprised me the most
