Mine looked just like that 2 years ago when I first changed the coolant after my first servicing. I put it down to not being changed EVER in the 10+ years the bikes been around. Coolant just changed. This time the waste looked much better - no 'oil' etc. Could be wrong though!

"You're not bleeding except for that arm... No - keep it down!"
WTF?!?!? Any 1st aider will tell you that you elevate bleeding...
Also - who the f*ck let him get up!??!?!? An impact like that and the fall to the ground is a TOTAL candidate for neck/back injuries... Best off keeping him where he was until paramedics checked him out.
Oh - and before I forget. Twat of a biker.

130 with hastings direct premium - includes leather cover - happy with that considering bennetts wanted to quote me 191 for less cover...

Wind has blown mine over in front of my eyes... But parked up on a gravel drive. I ditch the cover when the weather looks grim now - which kinda defeats the point...

Ah.... the Haynes manual says otherwise - but I guess that is overkill?

Hi all, I tried to adjust the slack of the cable at the engine end this weekend, but my offset ring spanners were not offset enough to get a good hold on the locking nut... Any one had this issue before? What do people use here? Cheers, EdC

Well done noggy!
I did my first oil change last year. But without being able to get a torque wrench on it i fooked up and stripped the thread... fortunately I was putting in one of those shitty magnetic sump plugs and was able to put the old plug back in (albeit VERY carefully!).
At the same time I changed spark plugs, coolant, air filter and brake fluid. If you can do the oil then you can definately do all the rest!
Good luck!

Went to my first ROSPA meeting today - a nice blast round some Cambridgeshire villages in the cool morning air! Even thought a short run of ~30miles it left me with a big grin!

Snapper - wheel fit i assume What did you think of them? the last time I got a pair of tyres I used a place on the A10 I think it was between Cambridge and ely they were the cheapest at the time by far , cheaper than buying loose tyres and then have them fitted even plus it was a ride in ride out service If I could remmebet the name I would recomend them but a lot of it is where you are and what you want , which tyres what service ect

I agree with AideR. Chain wears to the sprocket and the sprocket to the chain. Replace as a set. Front and rear.

Sadly DryRob - I had already invested before finding this site! But to be honest, I've 'wasted' more than 15 quid on far less valuable things!

Geniune seals... my garage quoted me ~120 for the front calipers alone!!! OEM parts ~30 for the same things. Not bought any yet. How much did you pay for the originals and where from???

Could it also be the valves? Not an expert mechanic in any respect I have to add! I think that if the valve shims need changing then it can give a little rattle once cold. Once they warm up and expand to fill the void then they shut up - hence that's why valve checks need to be done on a stone cold engine. Experts - please feel free to tell me that's crap!

Not wanting to sound like I'm taking the piss but... Haynes manual??? I guess if you're scratching around for the air filter you'll want to do more too. Best 10-15 quid I've spent. Saved me shed loads.

Only done it the once - with a morgan carbtune. And it was pain free (ish) other than finding the screws. Can recommend.

So - my comment is:
"If you can't get a socket onto it (which I found too) - how are you supposed to use a torque wrench to tighten to the recommended 43(?)mM???"
I guess you simply don't?

I tried to install one of the hein gerike magnetic sump plugs - couldn;t see how I could get a socket on there as the frame bars access - any comments on this welcomed! Problem was that the thread was a lot shorter that the standard plug - and I sheared the thread almost instantly. Might have just been over eagerness on the first go at changing the oil - but I dunno. Ye be warned! Luckily the standard plug being longer could still be threaded in and still holds oil back - otherwise...

Hi all, My knowledge of bike mechanics is very much limited. But on trying to fire the beast up, when I press and hold the starter button, I hear a click (presumeably the starter motor relay) - then nothing - rather than the click-click-vroom etc that I used to hear. Not sure if I can hear it turning over at all. Should I be able to? But if I use a bit of throttle the bike fires up. Dodgy starter motor? Brushes need cleaning? Any suggestions welcomed! EdC

Just got some Road Pilot 3s.
What with the wet weather I've not really scrubbed them in yet - but they still offer confidence inspiring levels of grip.
As to the cost - yes - pricey. BUT for the odd 30quid for a pair in the scheme of things is good value for the wet grip that might save you from a spill which could cost lots worse....
