I'm pretty sure I've got the competence just a little hesitant as I've not done a carb strip on anything more than a lawn mower or a two stroke! I've had the engine out of my old fazer 600 before and done Kebabs fork mod successfully so the carbs should be well within my comfort zone

One thing I remember about taking the engine out of the 600 was how much of a pain in the arse getting the carbs back on was, had to use a bloody ratchet strap to pull them on in the end. Strangely enough my other half actually likes when I bring the bike into the kitchen for major works, she's an odd one... Now that it seems I've got my winter job does anyone have suggestions as to where to buy the kit from?

So sad I missed his magic! I'm off to the Pyrenees next summer for some hopefully dry biking in the mountains, am I likely to be anywhere near him?

What are the best options these days for sourcing the kits and tools or even better anyone who does the work? Am I right in thinking that Mike, Falcon 269 no longer takes on the work? I'm sure I could do the mod myself and will if it's the only option but I'd really rather have someone more experienced do it incase I destroy something  :lol

Damn I wish I had some money! My bike is a black and lava red, nothing wrong with my plastics but these are sexier! I'll be keeping an eye out for any future parts of yours.

I should probably have waited and gone with one of these guys but my eBay addiction got the better of me again and I and bought this seat which I spotted https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F302832371583 I'm not sure but looking at another post on eBay with a similar looking seat it may have been made in Poland which is a shame as we've our own upholsterers in the UK. Still a good looking seat for £210 delivered and if I don't like it I should be able to resell fairly easily.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Add on lights/ spot lights/ running lights
« on: 14 August 2018, 11:25:40 pm »
I was considering wiring the spots into the high beam circuit as really I want these lights for touring in Europe where sometimes part of the travel involves night driving on unfamiliar totally unlit but very quiet roads where I would be using high beams mostly and would just switch to dipped beam for oncoming traffic. This would give me the lighting I need on the mountain roads but not effect my indicators being seen.

The idea of wiring the lights into the low beams to be more visible in the daylight isn't one I'd considered but I'm sure makes sense for some people although it seems as though having to lower the angle of the beam to avoid blinding other road users wastes some of the distance potential of these lights. If I were to go down the route I would fit a switch to dissable. This option is probably the best one but I'd look at mounting the lights lower down, say on the engine crash bars or maybe between the forks under the fairing. Without having a fiddle and seeing if they do obscure the indicators I'm not too sure.

Another thing I'd considered is wiring through the starter relay so they'd only work with ignition on and just use a handle bar switch as this would be the most flexible option but not the most practical to switch quickly.

Looking into getting some extra lighting and wondering if anyone has any recommendations?
Ebay, my go to site seems to mostly be selling the same very cheap looking lights which look as though they're more suited to a BMW gs1200 with bulky metal surrounds than a fazer. Also the picture of some of the beams look like a narrow focus hunting torch which could be a bit limiting.

« on: 07 August 2018, 10:05:20 pm »
:useless Lol if they're Renthals which seem most common then they are anodised.

If originals you can quickly check some of these things
slip off the throttle or left switch controls there will be a small hole in the bars maybe 4mm? to keep the controls fixed firm
lift one of the brackets mounting it to the yolk risers and it will have notches cut into it for grip
If you remove one of the bar ends it will look like the thread in the bars is an insert which is welded in
There is also a number stamped on the bars at the clutch grip end although this is impractical to view
There is likely a dot punched into the bars as a marker near the mounting point with the risers

I've just fitted one of those ognibene front sprockets, a -1 15 tooth and it seems pretty damn quite to me. I don't have as much experience as many of you guys but it felt like a very good quality part and runs real nice on the bike

Ricky do you know what the settings were in the end after Mike sorted it? Also where do you all take your bikes to have the suspension set up and what sort of price is it?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: What is this and why is it in my exhaust?
« on: 01 August 2018, 10:07:35 pm »
So after a bit more reading on the forum it seems most of the catalytic converter is in the silencer and link pipe if I understand things right so leaving what's left in the collector box probably doesn't serve much purpose emissions wise although I admit I know sweet fa about this.

Question is is there anything to be gained by removing what's left, a post last yeah ended without much conclusion on the matter. It must have some restriction effect as it is to a point reducing the space in the tube but is it noticeable either on power or noise on a un ivanised bike or an ivanised bike for that matter... those of you who have removed it why did you do it?

Get drilling and hack it out

Haha just go at the bloody thing eh! Do I have anything to gain? Is it the worlds cheapest +10hp mod  :lol

That' the basic cat ,only on the 05 fazer,  I removed mine.

Other than emissions does it do anything performance or noise wise? How did you go about removing it? Seems to be welded in...

i own two fzs1000's one is a 2002 and another 2005. After fitting a new end can to the 2005 bike I noticed three pipes inside of a larger pipe in the collector box after the exup which I took a disliking to so I checked my 2002 bike and it doesn't have them.
To me the 2002 bike feels faster but I've not really taken the new one out properly so this might just be in my head although it seems the mixture screw plugs on the carbs have been drilled out but the slide spring and needle look stock so I don't think the carbs have been played with.

Are these pipes some kind of restriction or something? Would there be any benefit or reason to either leave them in or take them out?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Hel brake lines
« on: 30 July 2018, 07:00:29 pm »
Hel got back to me and said they don't have info on these bars so I should mesure the length needed and tell them which is fair enough. Thought they might have a database but that's not the case.

I had a fiddle today and lowered the bike down the forks by 9mm. I've noticed as I've got two fazer1000's one with the R6 shock mod and one without that side by side the stock bike rides a bit higher at the back end so once I swap the shock over to the R6 one that will lower the back and probably give me similar geometry to what I had before dropping the 9mm on the front.

I also moved the throttle in by a mm or two and left a mm or two gap between the brake and the throttle and this seems to've given me enough slack to not need new lines thank foc!

Yeah very easy, I used a vice and two sockets one slightly smaller than the bush to push it and one larger to receive it. It took no pressure at all really, I probably could've just tapped it out with a mallet.

Thanks guys, I'll run a piece of wire down as suggested and also see what hel say if they do get back to me. Perhaps what ever make the currently lines are do theirs shorter than hel. Mick-H if you found the hel lines to fit well as they come perhaps I could just order, did you mention you had 755 bars on when you bought the lines? Really beautiful bike by the way! Mine is the same colours and yours is pretty much what I want to get mine like although I don't think I can put as much money into it as you, saying that I've only owned the bike for a couple weeks and already spent a grand on it  :lol
