My cdi/ecu unit needs replaceing when I checked out the net to buy one two different part numbers came up one is 5lv-82305-00 and the other is 5lv-82305-40 every one is advertising them both as suitable for all fzs1000 2001-2005 does any one know if this is true or are they persiphic to individual machines many thanks for any help.

I think they're different.  Off the top of my head, I seem to recall one type has a single electrical connector, while the other has two.

Unfortunately, none of the fiches I looked at made it any clearer but I suggest you check the number of connectors plugging into yours and at least ensure that the replacement has the same. :)

I believe the unit with 2 connectors fits the r1 and the unit with 1 connector fits the fzs1000 although they have different model numbers I have been told they will be ok for all fzs1000 years 2001-2005 would just like to be sure

You're probably right about the R1 / FZS1000 ECUs.  My bad ... I've got a '99 R1 in the garage which is perhaps why I got them confused. :)

seem to recall there was an issue fitting later ones because of the daytime lights on from bike 03 onwards
this wouldnt work with pre 03

Iam looking at getting one from a 2003 bike but it has the same part number what do you think?

Daft as it may sound, why does your ECU require replacement? They aren't items that normally fail.

is there a part number on your old ecu ?
One, is never going to be enough.....
